Press *3001#12345#, that will put you into a menu where you can do all kinds of things to your phone.

Such as? I have tried to change my banner (which is visable on the screen when the phone is idle) from "US Cellular" to something more personal and have had no luck whatsoever. Also, hoow do I increase the "bandwidth" on the phone? I have a 6360. Thanks in advance. Phil |

Sorry Latrapeze, just read your response on the other thread. Are you sure you looked through all the options in the menu?

I did do this and it did not "stick". Please advise? Is there anything else I need to do to make this process work. Thanks. Phil |

After you change the banner the "soft key" on the left should say "OK" and the one the right should say "back", hit OK and it should save it. Hey Roqstarr, did this work for you?

I know a few people with at&t 6360 phones, in the next few days i'll see if I can play with one of those and let you know what I come up with. By the way, your profile says your name is Steve, not Phil?

Thanks. Any other hints you have to "dress up", alter or improve the performance of this phone would be great. I am Phil by the way (long story). P |

Phil, I see what you mean. I got a few minutes to play with one, and the alpha tag only puts a message on the screen when you first power the phone on, interesting. the only advise I can give you now in to go through every single menu option (if you havent already) and look for something that says the same as your banner (US cellular?), and change that. The only downside to this if it works is your banner only reads that in your home area. When you are roaming, the banner changes to "roaming". As for other things to improve the performance, the only thing I could suggest is an external antenna for you car (big reception gain with them). Sorry I couldn't be more help, I don't know why those phones are different than the other nokias I have played with, oh well.

Thanks. I haven't found the setting with "US Cellular" anywhere. I will continue my search and let me know if you think of anything. Phil |

actually the roaming banner depends on the phone apparently...with my old moto v120 it would say "roam" with the little "D" or "A" to denote digital or analog mode...with my 8265, it says "uscc roam" with a "D" to denote digital and a lack of "D" to denote analog...lol Keep the Faith, Lance |

The alpha tag is dependent on the provider, a carrier sends an OTA to each phone on its network, and depending on your phones manufacturer, the alpha tag will be different. On Motorola's you can get into a programming menu and change it. Keep in mind this is for TDMA only. CDMA alpha tags are easily changeable. |

You can by messing with psid/rsid setting, but I wouldnt recommend it. If you have a data cable and the right software you can do it, but if the provider sends out an OTA it will default it back to US Cellular. and you will have to do it again.

I use a Nokia 3585 and LOVE IT! I wasn't aware that I could change the alpha tag. Thanks a million! I changed mine following the insturctions given here previously and it worked just fine. I powered off the phone and back on and my new alpha tag is still there. I'm a happy camper. Instead of it saying Cellular South, it now says *PANTHERS* (as in my favorite football team)!
