The Nextel name will be staying for branding purposes! Thats good for all of you NEXTEL lovers out there (I love the name too & the DC which is staying too!!!). So, as I was saying... Sprint will market its new QChat service (as well as the current Direct Connect, and PowerSource offerings) under 'NEXTEL'. I personally think its a great move - as many people relate Nextel with quick and reliable walkie-talkie style phone use. And its a well known name too! So, this will be the quick/reliable NEXTEL service everyone is used to (just on the CDMA/RevA known as QChat), and then we will use the Sprint CDMA side for voice/data! So it will be something like -- 'Sprint now providing Nextel' or 'Sprint exclusive provider of NEXTEL services'.... something along those lines. But yea, its a great marketing ploy! And should keep all the Nextel fans happy (at least I am). SOURCE: Push-to-Talk on New Devices Will Give Sprint Customers More Ways to Get Things Done at SprintSpeed

In some ways, the NEXTEL name has bad connotations to it, like network quality in a lot of areas, but the NEXTEL name was, as you said, closely related to good, reliable walky talkie service and everyone knows to connotate the NEXTEL name to Walkie Talkie service so that might be a good move.

as far as we know all the government wants back is the 800MhZ frequency..........they dont care about technology..........and i think they are only keeping the Direct Connect name over the QChat name.......thats all i got out of this.........

| Do you think this will be a band available on WiMax capable phones, or is this spectrum just going to be used to support WiMax implementation and use (on a hidden background level)?

Images: 147 | Just like EVDO, WiMax will be data services only. As of now, voice will still be handled on separate voice channels. The 2.5ghz frequencies will be used for WiMax only, both mobile and stationary installations.

Thats good news for nascar fans which will now have the Sprint Cup instead of the Nextel Cup next season.
