Anyone know if Nextel (or is it now Nextel/Sprint) going to be releasing a new rugged phone this year? For the past few years, each year a new one would be out. 2006 was the I580, 2005 the I560 and before that was the I530. IMHO I'd like to see a rugged phone (DC and all) as Verizon has with their rugged model the G'zOne. I like how it can go totally into water and still work fine! |

All of the Hybrids are rugged, I have the i502 Buzz and it's a rugged designed phone as well as the new i902 (i think that's the new one) is a rugged built phone. The positive is it uses the CDMA side for calls & SMS, the negative is it only uses the 1900 Mhz for CDMA calls, so if your in an area where a roaming partner is strong with 850 vs 1900 you will have coverage issues. It's the right idea & direction for them at least.

I should of added, that I'm thinking of flip phones (rugged). I once got myself into quite a situation when I didn't push the red hangup button all the way and the other party heard me talking about our conversation to someone else. After that I never owned a non-flip phone again! I think the ones you mention are all the open phones/non-flip? |

Either way as Charlyee pointed out all of these are flip phones, I would suggest looking at the 502 & 902 to see which one you like better, I like the 502 but would not have bought it if I had to due to lack of ringtones no wallpapers ect... it's about average with what all carriers are doing to make you buy these items from them. I do not know if the 902 has any additional items but being a higher model I think it may.
