Default NEXTEL Blackberry

Anyone hear about a new Blackberry for NEXTEL coming out anytime soon?

I may need to replace my 7520. I'm waiting to see if something new is coming or should I switch to the Pearl?

As far as I'm aware, the pearl is only available in the GSM Tmobile flavor right now and I haven't heard anything coming from RIM in regards to another new Blackberry, there are some more "affordable" Treo's on their way out for GSM and Cingular dropped the Samsung Blackjack and the 8525 today.

why dont you just switch over to Sprint cuz they have some pretty good PDAs right now......and eventually since NeXtel will be shut down Sprints been working on EV-DO Rev A and you will have the DC-like service offered from Sprint and you will be able to chirp people from Nextel who havent migrated yet either

But what about all the Nextel subscribers that aren't in a native Sprint Area???

Would Sprint build out their network to get the Nextel subscribers, and switch them to Sprint??

yeah.....they are planning based on hybrid rumor/fact that they will shut down the Nextel network by 2010......they are hoping to expand so that all Nextel customers will have native Sprint service in their area as well.......and they are trying to upgrade all major cities and surroundin cities to EV-DO Rev A so that there will be the QChat which is the DC-like service that i was tlkn about......

they have those hybrid phones...........basically when you get one of those.....you have to switch over to the Sprint billing system so your technically migrating when you activate one of the hybrid handsets.......this migration will help and the only thing that the Nextel network will be used for is Direct Connect......then the voice and data load will be on the Sprint network.........

after this cozxed migration is complete they can stop activating new Nextel service and when the hybrid users want new phones they have to upgrade to the Sprint PCS-only phones...........during this migratrion to Sprint-only or hybrid models.......they will have to shut down sometime........their first goal is to probably to get all Nextel customers migrated over to the new billing system............the network migration will prolli occur when this is almost complete.......in the end they will prolli go the same way as Cingular........forced migration or terminated service........it always works with some small potholes in the end

yeah it is.........Sprint is becoming better and better but im pretty sure that the FCC is mandating the shutdown of all TDMA and AMPS by March 1, 2007 so this will decrease Cingular's TDMA coverage and Verizon and Sprint's analog coverage.....it will improve call quality though because they wont be cramping calls on the airwaves all of the time

They will not shut down the NEXTEL iDEN network by 2010. They announced that they will have that network AT LEAST THRU 2010.

The NEXTEL iDEN coverage here is good, but if you get off the main road with Sprint PCS you lose it fast.

yeah.........sure they havent said anything publically but look at the measures they have been taking since the merger.....hybrid phones to give Nextel customers a taste of the CDMA side of Sprint Nextel and the have started massive rollouts of EV-DO Rev A..........they have also publicly released their plans for the QChat which is just as good as the Direct Connect based on description and features involved.......Sprint QChat customers will be able to chirp Nextel Direct Connect cuztomers.........i think its definitely safe to say that they will begin forced migration if needed by 2010......my opinion though so dont persecute me

Yea don't forget the 1600 new iDEN sites in 2006. Nextel whether you like it or not isn't going anywhere as it's still quite profitable for Sprint Nextel. It still has the highest ARPU of any wireless brand at about $62/mo.

The reason for the hybrid phones was not to get people off the iDEN network so that they can shut it down but to help offload some users in heavily overloaded markets to the CDMA side where they can be easily supported. Notice the hybrid was only released in 24 markets initially, those markets were identified as most overloaded nationwide. Most people using then iDEN market are strictly there for the PTT, if a comparable product was offered to them on the CDMA side most would have no issue switching over.

No one is persecuting you, they're just responding to your rumors with facts.

this is very true.....Nextel does still make a lot of money from its business customers...........the one thing that makes the Sprint/Nextel scenario different from the Cingular/AT&T scenario is that the old Nextel plans arent nearly as a good a value as the new Sprint plans are........with AT&T Cingular wants to get everyone off the old AT&T plans because they give a lot more for less.........i think it would be a very good idea to eventually shut down the iDEN network

1)QChat will eventually be available

-and-

2) Sprint has better coverage than Nextel

when Sprint sees that voluntary migration is imminent they will make the move to shut down the Nextel network...just wait and see

That's the only real change we have seen while offering NEXTEL since the merger. Adding the Fair & Flexible stuff to Nextel plans is nice. Otherwise it's still the same old Nextel and Sprint. But I live where Sprint is offered by Northern PCS, not the Sprint PCS stores.

Not in my area, leave the main roads and towns and you will lose Sprint CDMA in a heartbeat, go down to Indiana and forget having it at all (More iPCS's fault, which that mess needs to get taken care of any ways), plus when roaming on CDMA you have to remember that we lose data service as well. And while iDEN data is slower, at least I have it. The only place I have ever been in my 6 years with Nextel that I didn't have service was from North of Anchorage, AK to Fairbanks. Which I'm not exactly worried about.

Yeah you can def. forget about sprint here, Sprint was my first wireless service and they were horrible, afterwards I had verizon, and now Cingular. My mother has verizon and I have a phone on that account as well so.

If you had Sprint or TMobile between 1996 and 2002, don't cancel them out as a current option. At that time they were comparable to the original regional providers back in 1990. Both have improved massively in the last five years.

true.......at this point Sprint has added the EV-DO Rev A............and they have added a lot of roaming partners.....T-Mobile has also added many roaming partners with data roaming on some networks......they are also rolling out their UMTS network as we speak.....they really have come far
