Default VZW Bluetooth...V710...again (sorry)

Ok, I know I'll probably get a lot of backlash for this because there about a million other threads on this (which I've read), but I still didn't get my answer. I have a V600 now and love the BT feature. I transfer contacts, photos and mp3 ringtones. I am looking at switching to Verizon (I am now with AT&T or Cingular or whoever I send money to every month). Cingular said I would eventually have to switch to one of their plans which doesn't work form me. I had a company discount through AT&T (19% discount) and Cingular only does 8%. Plus I will lose my nights and weekends starting at 7pm. So I will pay about $25 more a month for less service. Not cool. Anyway, to the BT thing. Is there a way to get MP3 Ringtones transferred to the V710. I know they block the direct BT transfer option. And the rep was telling me that I could only play MP3s files and NOT use them as ringtones unless of course I downloaded them from THEIR site. I think I read that with an upgrade of firmware would solve this. Or can I make an MP3 file and email or text it to my phone? Or is there a way to transfer it from the media card? I generally don't like the MP3 tones that are out on the market. I listen to a lot of non-mainstream music and generally don't like the 30secs someone else picks for a ringtone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a Motorola data cable, you'll be able to get some software around the internet that will allow you to make some minor changes to your phone that will unlock the media card transfer.

There is also firmware out there that has the unlocked Transflash transfer abillities, and also has the abillity to transfer media and synch PIM data via Bluetooth and Mobile Phone Tools.

As creanium said there are ways to hack the phone to transfer ringtones. You will never be able to use bluetooth to transfer though. You must use either the data cable or a flash card.

A way to transfer ringtones without touching the phone's internals is buying the flash card and sending a message with a ringtone attached to a number that doesn't exist such as 123. When the send fails you can copy the ringtone to the phone. A few extra steps, but generally painless.

Errrr, mmmm, not to disagree with the experts here, but I had my v710 upgraded by VZW (and they were unable to get the firmware update to stick, and eventually after hours of struggle just gave me a new phone with the new firmware on it), and then performed the fairly simple seem edits myself. I just re-enabled Transflash transfers and enabled use of the multimedia gallery (or whatever the heck it's called). I have transferred ring-tones and images to the phone over BT, along with phonebook data. There was some hinkiness getting the phone and MPT to talk over BT at first, but once they finally "found" one another it was a piece of cake.

I like the idea of using Mobile Phone Tools from Motoroal. You have to buy the cable and software, then the upgrading. Prepare to spend a few hours upgrading to MPT 3.23 from 3.0

I know transferring Images/pictures did not work, but Mp3's might.

how did you re-enable? What's the easiest way to do this after the new firmware upgrade? Thanks
