Default Motorola Droid / Tao / Sholes

I guess the name hasn't been finalized, but the preliminary data/pics look nice. Too bad it's only CDMA (via Verizon). A GSM/UMTS version would be nice for those of us living outside US/CAN...

Motorola really needs a success story right about now to stay alive. I hope this is it....sure looks good.... and Verizon and Android seems to be a good move strategicaly...nobody likes the walled garden of Apple, and would be interesting to see how Verizons net holds up to some "power users"...

450 hours of standby time?? Doubtful. Especially on CDMA.

Boy Genius Report has added some info and HoFo now has a consolidated info post.

Here are the screenshots of Android 2.0.

This is probably the best bet to get me to convert from my iPhone. Unfortunately, one of the quotes was "Oh and did we mention this thing flies? We’re talking ridiculously close to iPhone 3GS web page speeds." Isn't that a nice way of saying "a little slower"?

This phone has got my interest too. Might have to consider this when it comes out and maybe dump my blackberry.

This phone looks interesting, but I'm uneasy with current Motorolas. I'll take a wait-and-see approach to this one to better gauge how it really will be once it's released and in people's hands. I still have bad memories of the Q.

For Motorola's sake, I hope it will be a success. We'll see...

Yeah, the Q was a POS. One of the only phones I ever returned to Verizon within the 30 days. Had high hopes for it, running windows and all, but went back to a BB. Since then I have shyed away from any windows mobile devices. But this looks pretty cool, but your probably have the right idea. Let it be released into the real world, and see what happens then. Or at least I can go play with then in a store and see how it works.

As far a Motorola goes, I alway thought they put together a quality phone. My Razrs all worked well. When I was with sprint, those phones were solid and took a beating and kept going. Even the Q was not a bad device, I think the OS and maybe what Verizon may have done with that OS may have been more of the issue.

Question Re: Motorola Droid / Tao / Sholes

So, (1) will it be able to run my iTunes (is there some kind of hack or anything), (2) when can I get it, and (3) I don't understand the GSM versus CDMA thing and will that cause any problems?

And I STILL have one of the original Qs because I haven't found anything I like any better... it's still a great phone for me and it passes the 3 foot drop test.

Thanks in advance.

This is the first phone bearing the batwing I've been excited about in years. This is a game-changer. If the specs and rumors are correct, this may be the first phone actually capable of holding it's own against the iPhone as it resolves many of the issues people have with the iPhone. The only question is, is that going to be enough to overcome the cult of Jobs?

Either way, I'm getting this device as soon as possible.

Boy Genius Report, which has been on the front line of any new information on this phone, has posted a pretty thorough preview review on their site.

Interesting stuff...

Gracias, Mike. I've been waiting for this to come out. I'm very glad to see the build quality is back to Motorola's previous standards. I was not impressed with my W490, which is the first phone from Motorola I've owned where the quality of the physical device was an issue. If I'm spending as much as this device is likely to cost, I want it to be well put together.

Your welcome!

I agree with you 100% Motorola's build quality on the W series phones. Considering the tremendous quality of the V series, which IMO, were Moto's best series of phones, I was not pleased to see them drop the ball. So I really hope this phone becomes like the RAZR and redefines Motorola again. It certainly has the potential.

Pre-Ordered at my local Best Buy, can't wait I am number 6, so unless they only get 5 of them in, I should have my hands on one Friday.

I'll be ordering this device at midnight...or 11PM, actually, since the timer on the VZW/Moto Droid site seems to be on EST.
