Problem with Phone Tools

I have a new razrv3i with version 4.3.6 of phone tools and I am trying to open up the phone book on my pc. I only get the message "This function is unavailable because another function or data data connection is open". What happens is the window opens and closes straight away. I can see the calendar, but not phone book or synchronisation window. I have set the default usb connection on the handset to data/fax, and do not have a memory card in the phone.

Does anyone have any ideas.
