Default Loading ringtones from P2K Commander

I got this tip from another board I post on. No idea if it works but it looks like another alternative for loading ring tones from p2k...

Download p2k commander and mpsu(motorola phone software updater) both free

Activate MPSU then connect the phone once it says no new updates your ready to go

Open p2k commander then connect to phone....open phone directory where you'll see ringtones.
Add all the ringtones you want(cut and sized of course and renamed as .qcp) to the ringtone directory
When your done erase ringtone tmp and ringtone dp files from main directory

turn off and turn back on phone and wala...ringtones

It sounds long an crazy but it now takes me about 5 minutes to load up my whole phone.
Hope this helps someone.

Yes, you can use P2Kcommander to add/delete ringtones. That user was a little vague about how to though.

You need two programs. MSU and P2Kcommander.

In a/motorola/shared/audio, you can add/delete ringtones. Just make sure they arent in use by the phone. What u should do is set all your ringers to silent. Then delete/add what u need. (never delete ones that end in .mp_). Once u are done, you need to delete the MyTonesDB.db file in the root of the phone. Once udelete it and restart the phone, it will re-index the master ringtone list. Then the ones u deleted will be gone, and the ones u added will show up. Just keep in mind that since your master ringtone list will be re-indexed, it will mess up all your ring styles that u had set. You will need to set them all up again.

One thing about that process is renaming the files to .qcp. That filetype has really low quality and the ringtone will NOT sound good. You can use ringtones in mp3 format, and they also work if you rename them as mid's, but if they're in mp3 format you shouldn't have to do that. I'd stay away from qcp if you want your ringtones to have a good quality. The difference is amazing between the qcp and mp3 or mid.

Does anyone know how to get the ringtone list updated on the RAZR V3xx? I have tried P2kCommander, I use that for the most part. But, have also used MPT. I can get the songs to the phone with no problem, all mp3 files. But, I can't get the ringtone list to update to show those songs as possible ringtones. I tried and deleted a couple of the .db files (mediaf.db and thmb.db) but that didn't do the trick.

As the earlier post mentioned on the older phones I guess it was in a/motorola/shared/audio and delete the MyTonesdb.db file, but on the newer ones there isn't a file with that name.

Any advice would be appreciated..

Thanks!

You need to delete the mytonesDB.db file, it's not in the motorola/shared/audio folder, it's just in the root folder, a, if I remember correctly. Delete that, reboot, you should be good to go.

I've looked through every directory and these are the only *.db files on the phone:
thmb.db
mediaf.db
mediaf_pl.db
prov.db
audio_cfg_b.db
audio_cfg.db

I can't find anything remotely close to MyTonesDB.db.

Have you tried with the new razr v3xx?

If you have the MyToneDB.db file, it will be right in the a/ folder. When p2kcommander starts, open the first folder and it should be right in there.

Does BitPim work with your phone? If so, have u tried that?

Otherwise, my guess is that u would need to delete one or both of those 2 audio_xxx.db files. But always back them up so u can add them back to the phone if need be.

Yeah, I've looked in the a/ folder for it as well. And I tried deleteing the audio*.db files (backed them up first), but no luck there. I've tried BitPim but it doesn't recognize my phone, I just got the newest version of it also.

I read that BitPim shows files that P2k doesn't..? I can't say since I've never got BitPim to work so far.

On a side note, I just renamed a file to .mid to see what would happen and it shows up when I go to Ringtones on the phone and sounds, there is the file. It was an mp3 originally, so it wouldn't play of course, but just thought I'd throw that out there. It just won't let me see any of the new Music files under Ringtones.

Ok, well I think I figured it out.. The new razr updates automatically whenever you add any audio files, but I still can't find any file that seems to update. However, I noticed all of the ringtones on the phone were under like 25-30sec, so I edited a clip and made one roughly that long and boom, it showed up under Music in the ringtones section. So, for anyone else having similar problems with new razr I guess the ringtones can only be a certain length long. I'm gonna play around with it some more and see what the max length can actually be.. But that was the problem I guess..
