I bought a copy of MPT 4.0 on eBay (cheap) because they said it was compatable with my MOTO W385. I loaded the software and got the updates, but it does not recognize my W385.
Did I get scammed or am I doing something wrong? Is 4.0 compatable with the W385? All I really want to do is keep a copy of my contacts list on my PC.

Could be a combinations of things, go through this TUTORIAL and see if you are installing MPT properly, if not get back to us, good luck.

Does it cost anything to use the internet connection feature? Your advice would be much appreciated, thank you!

You'll need to consult your carrier's terms and conditions re: tethered data usage for availability and applicable charges. Or if you'll add your phone's make/model to your profile information here, user's familiar with that carrier can likely give you the information.

Run an update, that should give the most current version.

Yes most likely that's what it is, you can just get back to us when it's all updated.

You're welcome.

Sorry - I meant the carrier. If you'll tell us who your service is with, or add it to your profile, someone should be able to tell you about any charges for tethering through MPT. Likely there are charges, if the functionality is even available with your service provider.

If you move the mp3 directly to the MMC folder it will put the mp3 into the "Audio" folder which will show under ringtone sounds in your V3m.
The music player now shows all the songs.
I have a Motorokr W5, I used MPT 4.5.1 i went to the file transfer thing, went to the MMC folder, the audio folder in it, created a new folder in it, transfered music to that folder, but the musci does not appear in the music library, it appears in the ringtone folder.

Can anybody help me?

Thank you

I used the motorola phone tools to edit a song and I sucessfully transferred it to my phone, but it's on there as an MP3 file and I can't set it as a ringtone. I read the directs beforehand and it said that all i had to do was transfer it and follow the on screen directions on my phone, but there were no directions. Is there anyway to convert it without downloading more stuff? Can I convert it on my phone?

You should be able to use it as a ringtone, but if your RAZR is a V3 with at&t firmware, it will probably have to be 100 kB's or less for the phone to allow you to select it for use as a ringtone.

I don't know of any way to reduce the file size, etc. on the phone - if it's larger than this limit, you'll probably have to clip it and then transfer it to the phone again using MPT.

This may be an odd question but one I am hoping someone can help me with. I have an older v557. I have the MPT application. Every time I set up an internet connection, it fills in a password even though one is not required and I am not entering one. I only see it after I create the profile and then go back in to look at the properties. I bought the phone when I had Cingular/ATT but recently switched to T-Mobile. the tech at one of their stores was trying to set me up with a data plan but could not get the rep on the phone to understand that I was using my own unlocked phone. He gave up but told me that most people with motorola phones can use the phone as a modem without the plan anyway (he is going to be calling some other folks he knows to try to make it legit in the mean time). I just need to figure out why a password keeps getting added as well as any other information I would need to set up an internet connection with them. Thank you for any info/help anyone light have.

Default Re: Motorola Phone Tools FAQ

Did you get a solution for your problem with the Motorola Phone Tools software "i have a razr v3c, motorola phone tools up to date. the problem is i can create ringtones but when i save to them to the pc and transfer them to my phone there is no sound in the mp3, even the one saved on my pc has no sound in it, mp3 playback?? i was having a issue earlier this week where i was not able to make mp3 i got the error saying inappropiate mp3 codec or mossing..i solved that by installing LAME acm 3.97 and Fraunhofer MPEG Layer-3 Audio..nowi can create the ringtones and within mpt i can listen to it but when transfered to my phone or saved on the pc it does not work.." Because I'm having the exact same problem with my MPT software. I have a Razr V3 and I'm able to transfer the mp3 ringtone to my phone but when I try to play it on both my phone or pc, there's no sound. Now, here's the weird part, when I had windows XP, there was no problem with the software, I was able to play the ringtones I made on MPT on my phone and use them as ringtones on my phone. Now I have windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit and It doesn't work. I know this is a compatibility issue with windows Vista but I've updated the software to it's latest version 5.13 which should have fixed the problem or at least that's what level 2 tech support tried to solve it with and had no success. Apparently the update developers didn't seem to notice that this issue with their software wasn't solved with the update because I'm not the only one with this issue or similar issues. I've contacted Motorola Tech support and aside from still waiting on their level 3 Tech support to call back with a solution, it seems they don't know their own software either. If that's the case, we won't have a solution to the problem any time soon as I found this post to be posted here since 2007 and it's 2009 now. If you found a solution, please post it here, and if you didn't, I will pursuit the subject till I find a solution and will definitely give it to you. I think it's unfair that they're still selling a product that was properly designed but isn't able to keep up with new technologies and that their tech support or updates aren't able to assess the issues properly to fix it's problems and therefore making people think other wise and leaving it to it's consumers or this forums to solve. Please respond a.s.a.p. Thanks.

Ok so I'm new to this forum stuff but it seems like some of you know what to do when it come to the MPT. So lately I've been having trouble making ringtones when before it would work fine. Eveytime I try to save it a window pops up and says failed to create file, so if any of you could help me out with that I would appreciate it thanks.

Default Re: Motorola Phone Tools FAQ

Hi, I am looking for ideas regarding a problem I have with the Calendar function on MPT. When I import a .csv file MPT appears to assume that all the times are GMT, so it subtracts 6 hours from the event time for each entry. The times in the .csv are correct and I was unable to find anything in the csv that specified a time zone, so I am not sure why MPT would behave in this way. I also imported the same csv into Google calendar just for kicks and Google displays the times correctly. I tried resetting the time zone on my laptop which of course causes my lap top time to be wrong and the event still shows up -6 on my phone anyway - unless I change the time there too. Don't really want to have my lap top and phone set at GMT just so my calendar times show up properly - if you know what I mean.

I cruised the forums looking for this problem but have not found any solutions - perhaps I used the wrong keywords. Anyway thanks for any help.
