Angry Re: Getting your V3C/M Connected

Hi Everyone

I have a Verizon Razr V3m. I recently purchased the Vcast music essentials kit required to transfer music files onto my phone. The problem is even after downloading all of the software and the suposed usb drivers from Motorola my pc is still not recognizing the phone. (I am using windows xp) It says found new hardware and then the hardware wizard comes on and says can't find driver. So I spent two hours on the phone with Verizon and they couldn't seem to help me so now I'm here.

I tried everything mentioned in the above articles and even downloaded those files. Temporarily my pc does have a motorola listed under modems but then when i run the mtpfix.exe it seems to disappear. But even when my phone is charging and the pc is listed under modems in device manager i still can't get my phone to sync. It will only charge. Can anyone please give me step by step instructions on how to properly get my razr to work with my pc?

Please and thanks for all the help in advance.

Ok, when it is listed as Motorola USB Modem, that is good. The first step is done. Now, disconnect your phone. Run mtpfix.exe. After that is done, plug your phone back in. Then open Windows Media Player. Then go into your phone and hit Sync. It should switch to MTP mode and install and sync properly. Keyword SHOULD. For some people, the Music Essenstials Kit really messes things up, and for pretty much everyone, the music kit doesnt work...I am still shocked that Verizon keeps that product on their shelves, I havent met anyone who has had it work. If u cant get it working the way I described, let me know and we can try something else. Just remember to use a usb port directly on the backside of your computer.

Hi everyone

Thanks for the help so far but I still can't get my verizon razr v3m phone to work with my media player or the vcast music manager for that matter. my pc is not recognizing the phone. I have downloaded the drivers that came with my verizon software and I have downloaded the info on this webpage but still nothing. I can get the phone to load under a modem but still when i try to sync my phone in my tunes it's saying connection failed make sure the phone is connected to the pc. Verizon tried helping me today for two hours. I have never had so much problem with any other software. Can anyone give me step by step details to set this phone up so I can get music on it???? It seems like I wasted my money buying this kit from Verizon when it still doesn't work.

Sorry I was posting to what someone earlier had recommended me to do. But it was basically the same thing that you had said. So yes I'm still stuck. So are you telling me this stupid verizon music kit is useless??? Now i do regret buying it. All I want is to be able to put music on my phone....grrrrr. I have never had so many problems with a software as I had with this. So okay my usb is plugged into the back of my computer, when it is plugged in it does say charging my phone but where do I go from here? When I try to sync the phone under music and tones it keeps telling me connection failed. What's my next step or steps? Do you have a razr v3m? Does yours work if you do and if so how did you get it to work?

Thanks

Ok I clicked on that link of directions you gave me but still not working. Phone keeps telling me it can't connect or connection failed. And after downloading and following the directions for the mtpfix.exe now the motorola no longer seems to be listed under modems. Also the pc is now saying found new hardware MTP device as it has many times today. And I am using windows media player 10. Also I just checked in my device manager and it now has it listed as a portable device but just MTP device.

Thanks again for all the help

Well, u are getting closer. Perhaps you should try updating Windows Media Player to its newest version, which is WMP11. See if that helps. Also, before doing so, did u try having WMP10 open BEFORE hitting sync and let it sit for maybe a minute or 2? Lastly, is it just ur phone saying not connected? Or does that popup balloon say that the device cannot be recognized?

I did have windows media player 11 originally but verizon told me I needed to be running 10 so I rolled back to 10 and got rid of 11. I have the media player open when trying to sync but phone still says can't connect check cables to make sure it is connected to the computer. (or something to that effect) and the only thing that happens when I plug in my phone is it says windows have found new hardware and then the new hardware wizard comes up and that can't find the driver to install the new hardware which brings me back to the beginning. So still not sure what is the problem, Verizon put in a trouble ticket and said they will get back to me but that could be 48 hours or more I was told. I just wish Verizon made their software easier where as normally if you have a disk you can install new hardware with the disk but their software doesn't seem to work that way and i'm not sure why. It installs motorola drivers on my computer even have a program on it but it doesn't seem to be doing me any good.

thanks

Well this is what I did I went in and removed all the motorola and vcast software. Also went in and searched for files for motorola and vcast and removed them that way. I then restarted my computer and plugged in my phone with the phone off. I then downloaded a file I got from this website. Drivertool-421a.exe and then followed that and it seemed to work. I need to be using the windows\system32\drivers file for the driver and it seemed to load that automatically and recognized my software. I then started my media player which i upgraded back to 11 since I like it much better then windows media player 10, turned on my phone and went to my tunes and hit sync and it seemed to work. I never used the file mtpfix.exe. Well I'm not sure if this is going to work everytime or after I shut down my computer but I will let you know. So basically I don't need the verizon software that I know of. I hope this helps other people and as I said I will let you know if I have any more problems or if Verizon ever gets back to me with a fix from them.

Thanks again for all the help

What phone do u have? Verizon V3M? If so, you can rule out bluetooth file transfer. It is not possible since Verizon removed that feature. But if u have Alltel or USCC, things are different.

As for your music, do u really mean u want to add music? Or is it ringtones you want to add? They are separate things. Music cant be set as ringtones. You need to upload ringtones to a certain folder, again, depending on your phone and carrier.

Who do u have?

I am going to link you to two things that have helped me. But you will need to do some searching and reading if this doesnt help. People have mixed results based on the comp they have, etc.

Are you sure they arent protected audio files? Such as file purchased thru iTunes or anythign like that? If they are protected, they will not be able to be converted to WMA, which will result it staying at 0%.

ok...I've read all of the websites and all the threads that I could find on this topic and still no luck. I have used MPT, MSU, I downloaded the V-cast for the drivers even though I have a sprint phone and that didn't work. I tried the mpfix and drivertool, nothing. So here I am perusing motorola's website trying to find a # to call someone to help me and I came accross this.

http://motorola.custhelp.com/cgi-bin...i=&p_topview=1

I am trying it as we speak, I'll let you know.

Basically, to get back to the heart of the problem, i can't get my computer to see my phone. it will charge through the usb, but it can't see it.

All ofthis is gor the Verizon phone.

You need MPT to bve version 4.36c. And u need your phone software to be updated fuly as well, to version ending with .42 or something like that. Once MPT is at 4.36c, it will contain the drivers your phone needs. Drivertool and mtpfix are for verizon only.

Well, I did say I was trying everything. I checked and evidentally I have MPT 4.0 so I'm working on getting the new version now. The whole sprint phone as modem thing I linked before didn't work either as the computer still can't see my phone. Thanks for the quick response, I'm ripping my hair out over here.

The best way I know to get the drivers is MPT 4.36c. And then ur phone software should be 24.2_00.43.00R.

Once it is, everything SHOULD work, but I cant test since i dont have sprint

Well I DL'd 4.36 although while I was waiting I ran Motorola Live Update and there were 2 updates totalling about 30mb and updating to v 4.21a. I ran it again figuring maybe it couldn't update to 4.36 until it was at 4.21 but apparantly for sprint, 4.21 is the current version. ( i could be wrong, but live update says I have the current version) So the long and short of it is that my phone now works and I can transfer and everything. Thanks again for the help I greatly appreciate it.

On another note, I did this mainly so I could copy my phonebook over, but as I couldn't get connected I was bluetoothing them over from my old phone. Where the heck do the bluetooth files go? Even though I was transferring contacts, they didn't show up in my contacts.

Default Sprint V3M Connected to WMP11 SOLVED

Just a reminder - if U put your microSD card into it's adaptor (I use a USB adaptor from Compusa for $10, maybe thats why it works), you can name the flash device in WMP11 and sync it up no problems. Being a software engineer I knew I just needed a hardware interface that WMP11 recognized to stick the card in.

HOWEVER..... Motorola still hasn't fixed the 32 charactor length problem yet!! I verified this by taking 4 MP3s (2 named only 1.mp3 and 2.mp3; the other two 60 some charcters) to the the sprint store, and they put he card into a blackberry, an LG, a Fusic, and another, all showed 4 mp3s. Put into a RAZR - only TWO showed up. The manager said must be my phone. So I got a shiny new Red Razor (had a grey one), didn't even charge me extra. It was late, went home, put in card and... TWO SONGS.

Next day I took back, they opened a brand new KRAZR shrink wrap and all mind you, put in card and... TWO SONGS. The motorola phones have a bug (one of many I hear from their own advanced tech support) that they can read only 32 characters (applies to music videos too). Called advanced tech support they had NO IDEA. I said if it was caused by Fridays firmwre update to 37 to be ready for a massive flood of people at the stores wanting their music back! I heard his manager swearing in the background :-) Gonna be fun at Sprint this week!

So in case you were were wondering why 90% of your music wasn't showing up, thats why. Already bought a ton of accessories, or else I would have swapped it for a Fusic or Moto Q (prob should have gotten that in the first place!), but RAZRs have been out for a while so I thought bugs were worked out. Advanced tech support said its still full of bugs!! He tells me this the day after my 30 days to swap phones is up!!

So I'm waiting for the software update so I don't have to sit and rename 200 MP3s to short names so my phone can see them. Anyways - way off on tangent...

Everyone is complaing they cannot sync to WMP11; just use the adaptor. If that doesn't work, run to CompUSA and get a microSD USB adaptor for $10. Start WMP11, window pops up, you name the flash card, sync, then RENAME EVERY &^^%#*&@ file to shorter name. Same for video, not that you would want to watch 15 frames per second. I keep one video just to show off :-) So you hafta take off the back cover once in a while - small price to pay for this cool phone!!

What I REALLY want is someone to figure out PAM (phone as modem) for the SPRINT RAZR for free like the good old days. They got that locked up TIGHT.

By the way - SPRINT PCS CDMA PHONES USE MP3's for music and 3GP for video. that YOU load from PC via WMP11 The GSM phones with SIM cards use the other formats. Music goes into a "music" folder, in case you formatted and haven't created one yet (only gets created when you BUY a dern song from THEM!!). Same for "video" folder in the DCIM folder.

NOTE: you CAN buy 2gig cards - only for Sprint V3m's! Sorry bout ya GSM carriers! Page 116 of the manual...

Peace & MP3's!

Unfortunately, you cannot enable bluetooth to transfer your pictures. However, you should be able to use BitPim to transfer your pictures. If you search around this forum, you will find plenty of threads of how to do so.

Hi Everyone! I'm going to purchase the Motorola Phone Tools version 4.0 for my razr v3m. I'm with verizon. The only problem I have is it doesn't have the V3m listed as one of the phones that this supports. Is this because I'll have to go in and "seem" once I receive the software? Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to spend more money and have it wasted. Thanks.

It doesnt list the v3m b/c their list is outdated. It is all the same program...they just ask so they know which phones use mpt the most. Just select a V3 and u will be okay.

And yes, u will need to do a few seem edits to make it work.
