I have a Razr V3m provided by US Cellular and would like to get it recognized under P2KCommander and BitPim. so far, P2k does not work, BitPim can read the phone information but has a problem with manipulating the filesystem. Mobile Phone tools works flawlessly using 4.21a drivers. everything i have found so far (i.e. seem edits) is mostly for the crippled verizon phones, im not sure if that makes a difference, but i think i need some help before i go ahead and fry my brand new phone. any ideas, tips or links would be helpful |

Welcome to WA. Your USCC v3m isnt nearly as crippled as verizons if at all. BitPim - Set your phone as v3cm. For Comm Port, click browse and make sure ur phone is listed as Motorola USB Modem under Available Ports. If so, you should be fine to browse the file system. What are u havig problems with in there? Accessing files? P2Kcommander - You need to have MSU or PST running first. Then open p2kcommander or p2k seem. Without one of those two, your phone isnt put into the correct mode to use p2k programs. MSU is easier to find and more legal Anything else, just ask.

I have successfully used BitPim with a Us Cellular V3m Razr phone. Initially when I plugged the phone into the computer using the USB cable, it was recognized as a Motorola USB Modem or something similar to that. Windows XP installed the drivers and said everything was ready to use. If yours doesn't install it as a Motorola USB Modem then you will have to search the web for some drivers. For that part, I'm afraid I can't help. After that, I started up BitPim and or course it says there are no phones detected, so I ran the settings thing and manually selected a V3cm phone. Please note, I have a V3m phone, but for this to work, I chose the V3cm since V3m isn't an option. Then where it says the COM port is set to auto, I just clicked on browse, and at the top I saw my Motorola USB Modem as an option. After selecting that and hitting ok, I was able to transfer pictures, ringtones, and what not to my phone. Getting used to the BitPim interface took a little while to however. First you have to click the left-most button to sync up your phone. Then you should be able to see what "Wallpapers" and ringtones are on there. You can also add files to those lists by right clicking and picking your own files. This doesn't add them to the phone however. To actually upload them to the phone, you need to push the second left-most button and put a checkmark next to the file types you want uploaded in the window that pops up. Hope this helps everyone. |

That is the correct way to setup BitPim. If you need the driver, you can get it here: http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/ra...connected.html Once u get your phone connected, and BitPim set up, you can use the File Tree in BitPim to access different folders within your phone, such as the picture folder, etc. You need to go into the View tab on top, select View File System, then on the left window pane, 2nd from the bottom, u should see a File System icon, click that, and then to the right u should see an expandable folder. Once u expand that folder, you are in the phone's file system much like thta of Windows. If u search around, you can learn what and where things are in the phone, and what u can change, etc.

I'm not running any other program besides BitPim. Yesterday I realized that if I just go to "view filesystem" that seems to work, but when I click "get phone data" it gives me the exception. Maybe BitPIM doesn't support getting data from V3m's and will only work with filesystem operations? |

Yea that is probably the case. The Sprint V3m is fairly new, BitPim's GUI might not work with the Sprint v3m yet, but I do know for a fact the file system does work.

What version of MPT do u have? It should show the MultiMedia Studio. If not, you need to update it.

Well I have re-installed windows since my last post, so I had to fight with my razr again to get it working with bit pim. It is the V3m by Us Cellular. The driver included with the drivertool utility as listed above did not make my phone work correctly with bitpim. Under device manager it all looked ok (showed up as a motorola modem) but alas with bitpim I would get the error "not responding while manipulating the file system". Then I found a different driver here: http://mark.cdmaforums.com/Files/Han...1%5D.6.2.0.zip If that link doesn't work, I'm also attaching the file to this post. I installed that one and it works fine again. I just followed the instructions I had previously posted, only this time I know where the driver came from. I still have to manually configure the connection, but it works. |

I realize this is an older post, but I've just gotten my v3m (USCC). I used to have a v262 that I did not even try to connect to my puter. That said, I am behind the curve with you folks. I've downloaded and installed three different drivers, bitpim, and still nothing will recognize my p-hone. When I start bitpim and try to connect to my p-hone, it says none is recognized. I tried to select the proper one in Settings, but it still does not work. When I click 'browse', the most obvious choice to me comes up as (*) Motorola USB Modem. I don't know why the asterisk comes up, but it does. I'm beginning to get fed up here. HELP!! |

^^^What version of BitPim do you have, and which exact drivers did you use and install? To better assist the first thing we need to know is when you plug your phone into your comp with no programs running how is your phone showing up in device manager. If it is not listed under modems as a Moto USB modem that needs to get fixed first b4 even trying to mess with BitPim. Once that is taken care of then we can move forward and manually select/setup your phone and com ports under setting so BitPim can access the filesystem. |

BitPim version1.0.2 Drivers: 1) Drivertool-421a 2) hanset_USB_Driver_32_v2[1][1].6.2.0 I'm not finding a device manager. Some things I read stated that if the phone is charging while plugged in, then it is being recognized correctly. I'm no geeky nerd here, nor do I want to reinvent the wheel, I just want to be able to add a song or two as ringtones...ones I already have on my iPod. Tom Quote:

Hi looney. Just wondering if you are still having problems. Are you trying to sync/transfer files to your phone? I have the same model of phone and the same provider, and I could not get BitPim to work either. So I tried an alternative - using MSU and P2K Commander. Both free, and both quick downloads. I'm now able to transfer music and pics. If you are interested in this method, reply and I will give you all the details. Also, to find Device Manager, go to Desktop, Right click My Computer, Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. Now is your phone powered off when you plug it into the USB? I also heard that if the phone charges, it its connected properly. |

the reason BitPim does not work right with the GUI is because BitPim does not natively support the v3m for any carrier. You best bet is to find a copy of MPT version 4.0 or higher. If you don't want to buy it then you can go the route of using MSU along with p2kcommander to get the tones on the phone. If you want to go the route of MSU & p2kcommander use this link as a guide RAZR, V3C, V3M, E815 Motorola/LG Mobile Phone Help Pages by Mark Venture - P2KC Tones it gives you all the details and links to follow if need be. |

Ya, kind of still having problems, and kind of not. I got fed up with it and uninstalled the stuff I installed to get it to work. So, in a nutshell, problem temporarily averted, NOT resolved. The reason I asked about Device Manager, is simply because I cannot find it on my XP driven puter. When I click down all the proper avenues, I never am able to find it...nevermind that, I just pulled my head out. This is becoming too involved for me to get into, right when the Fall rut is raining down on us archers here in Iowa. I gotta spend time in the tree, instead of banging my head trying to go here or go there and trying this and that (like I'm on a freeking merry-go-round) just to be disappointed at each venue. I will try to find the MPT 4.0 and/or P2K Commander, or better yet, have my kids do it. And just to clear some things up, the phone DID begin to charge when plugged into the USB (both on and off). If anyone wishes to send instructions to my email, feel free to send them via my contact email here. For now Tom Quote:

Ok. I'm posting this for others who may have problems transferring/syncing music and pics to your US Cellular V3M phone. First, a few things to be aware of: -I have found no available method to sync the US Cellular V3M with Windows Media Player (WMP) -if you are willing to pay a few extra dollars, buying MPT may work better as suggested by Izzyd or investing in a card reader for your computer ; I have not tried either. -use the USB cable that came with the phone or purchase one from the place you purchased your phone; all directions specify a mini-USB. -do not use a USB hub for the USB cable. Insert it in the back of the tower -a mini-SD memory card is not necessary until you max the phone’s free memory (mine was 28,000 kbs) -if using a disc, go into Settings - Phone Status - Storage Devices - Highlight (don’t select) the T-Flash - Press Options - Format Ok. After searching these forums and other sites for hours (10-12 hours to be exact) looking for an answer to get music files for my phone to use as ringtones for free aside from the cost of the mini-SD (SanDisk) ($20). I’ve heard of using 1) Motorola Phone Tools (MPT), 2) BitPim, 3) Bluetooth, and 4) P2K Commander alongside Motorola Software Update (MSU). The last method I found to work having tried 2, but not 1 or 3. Ok. So first you have to download MSU through this link. With Dial-Up it took about 30 mins. According to the knowledgeable moderator of these forums, for P2K Commander to access your phone, the MSU software must be running. Once that is done and you have it running, plug in your phone (it should be OFF) to the USB cable. A notification in your system tray on the taskbar should pop up saying something about New Hardware. Follow the prompts. Once finished, check MSU to see if the phone is connected. Also, go to Desktop - Right Click My Computer - Properties - Hardware tab - Device Manager. You should see one of the two menus shown here. Now the first time I used to hook up the phone, my computer would detect new hardware and run the Driver installation. Then, Motorola USB Modem would be listed under Modems in the list of devices in My Computer as described above. But using MSU, my phone appeared in My Computer as shown in the second image in the link at the top of this paragraph. Another indication the phone should be installed is it should be charging using the USB cable. If MSU does not connect to the phone (when connected, it should show the IMEI Number, but the other two should say n/a), or if your phone does not display in the My Computer Device Manager interface, you may need to update you phone’s driver. You may try the DriverTool4.12a attached at the link in the above paragraph. Ok. To download P2K Commander, go here and download P2kCommander-V4.9.E.zip (the newest version). It’s a very quick download. When extracting the files, use Browse to select a folder in which the extracted files will be kept. Using the default file, I could never find the program once I closed it. Mark_Venture, who's site Izzyd linked to above, recommends putting the files into c:\pk2commander. He also offers other tips about using P2KCommander here. For a visual display of the following directions, visit this page. On the right pane of P2K Commander, use the pull-down menu to select /a P2k Phone System. The bottom of the left pane will show some sort of activity of retrieving your phone data. Click Re-Read at the top right pane. Double-click the folder inside the pane. When you see a folder labeled “motorola”, double-click it; then double-click the “shared” folder; then double-click “audio” if you will be selecting a music file for a ring tone. This will store the file in the phone's memory, which should have enough space for about 5 full songs. In the left pane of P2K Commander, C: should be selected in the pull-down menu. Use the file tree (don’t know the technical term) to browse for the location of your saved audio file. The very top folder (,,,) is used to go to the higher level of folders. Ex. Clicking that folder when the My Music folder is shown will take you to My Documents. Once you have the file you want transferred highlighted, click Copy. The bar on the bottom will indicate progress. Once the file you have uploaded appears in the right pane, the file should be added even though the progress bar may not appear completed. Now you can unplug your phone. Turn it on. Go to Sounds. The file should be located there. To transfer it to your memory card; highlight it, click Options, then Copy, then the Card. Now you may delete it from your phone, as the audio will be in your memory card. When you plug your phone back into the USB to upload more music, be sure it is turned off. When I plugged it in with power on, P2K Commander had some error and had to close. The GENERIC FAILURE. Volume name fails! is normal. It went smooth for me leaving the phone off. RAZR V3Ms make great mp3 players aside from the long upload time and possibly the limitation of continuous upload of libraries of files. Any other questions, please ask. This method was located on this forum, so I don’t know what took me so long to find it and attempt it. A lot of work for something so seemingly simple. I am not tech savvy, so anyone with corrections or tips for me, I'd like to hear. I am just speaking from my experience. |
