| Hey, I've heard lots of people talking about this Motorola Mobile Phone Tools thingy. Is there any way I can download the whole package online from a certain website at no cost? I don't really wanna buy the package on eBay. I know it's cheap & all, but what's the point if I can get a free download? |

Nansy, I know you are new here, but try and post questions in similar threads, especially ones u have already created. This is the third thread from you regarding the sprint v3m and MPT. It just keeps the forum a little mor organized, thats all. As for getting MPT, things called copyright protection prevent this from being distrubuted free. It would be illegal for anyone to distribute this. You must buy it from BVRP. Chances are, the ones on ebay are pirated versions as well. Here is a link to buying it from them online. -> http://www.bvrp.com/customers/motoro...g/selector.htm You can save money by just buying and downloading it since you already have the usb cable. There are 2 discount codes u can do to bring the price to around $20 or so. One is tech97 that saves 15%, the other is BVRPUS I think that one is 10%. You can use both, and download the program. If you dont wanna spend $20, then you dont have any other legal choice.

Sorry everyone for posting in the wrong thread! No one seems to respond to my posts, I guess. I think everyone else has a different provider other than Sprint so I'm out of luck. Well, thanks for responding. I really appreciate it. Is MPT 4.0 the latest version? Could you check the site below to make sure it's the correct MPT package? I don't want to buy the wrong one. Does this package allow me to transfer music from my PC to my RAZR? I want full song files to play on my phone & also, I would like to make my own ringtones. http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-MOTOROLA-MOB...QQcmdZViewItem Thanks for your help! |

Nansy, it doesnt matter what version u get. You can live update the MPT to the newest version, which right now is 4.3.6 That should also show u that they are probably pirated version on ebay, the fact that they are outdated. Just beware it might not be legit. As I mentioned in my previous post, you can use a discount code, but tthey have changed it to accept one or the other. BVRPUS is 25% off bringing the price to $22.42, tech97 is 15% off price being $25.41. So its obvious which one to use. This program will let u transfer ringtones and pictures, among other things. It is a little slow that way. To transfer full songs, u need to use WMP10. It converts them into the proper wma format. Ringtones can be .mp3 format. You would want full songs as ringtones cuz it would be a waste of space. The phone will go to voicemail aftger about 30 seconds anyways, so u only really need 30 second clips for ringers. Before doing anything, u need to get the proper usb drivers for ur phone to conenct to the comp, but u may have already done that.

Okay, I see. I checked out the site you linked & it says something like "I want to receive the ordered software on CD (+USD 9.95)." What does that mean? Do I need it? I also have a USB cable wire already (My brother has one). So I should just purchase the CD software only, then? Thanks! |

All that means is u are downloading it and asking them to send u a copy on disc. You can get a copy of the download mailed to u for an extra $10 in case u change computers and u need to put it on another. Or, u can save the $10 and just download it to your hard drive and install it from there. What i did was download it only, and i backed up the downloaded program onto my own cd

| I would buy just the download. If u decide to , u can get it mailed to you as well as a backup on cd. U dont need to buy the one with the usb cable if u alreay have the correct cable.

Do I need both of the USB wires (OEM Mini (UME) USB Data Cable and an OEM USB P2K Data Cable)? Wait, I don't get it. Do I have to download the MPT software or will the CD provide everything? Thanks!

The $29.90 original price from that site is if you download it and install it. If you want a backup copy on cd, you can order that in addition for $9.95 or whatever the price is on that site. Orrrr, if you dont have the usb data cable, you can order the entire package. Does your usb cable plug into your phone? If it does, u dont need one. |

| ... Ok, so u go on the site. The price is 29.90. If u type in BVRPUS as a discount code, u get a 25% discount. This is the price to download the program to the computer. So you install the program. Now say for soem reason ur computer crashes and u get a new one. You wont have that program anymore. To avoid this, you can buy it on CD in ADDITION to downloading to. So if you have problems in two years u can reload it on to the computer. Otherwise, u would have to buy it again.

Okay... If I buy the MPT CD software, do I have to download the program as well? Do I have any other choice? That's the part I don't understand... Is the download the same thing as the CD?!

Two options, it can't get any more black and white than this: 1) Buy the program and download it immediately, no backup disc sent (no extra cost) 2) Buy the program and download it immediately, backup disc (9.95 extra) Either way, u will be downloading the program from them right away. The only difference is if you want them to mail you a copy as a back up, whihc costs extra. |

Okay, let me get this clear. I don't think you guys are understanding my question which is okay 'cause it's sorta hard to explain. Sorry. I want to buy the MPT CD off of eBay. It's only $10 & it includes two USB cable wires. The question is: Will that CD contain all the software I need for MPT or do I have to download additional software (the one on BVRP.com) as well? The download is the same as the CD, right? It contains the same information/software as the download, correct? So that means instead of purchasing the program on BVRP.com, I will just have to wait for the CD (that I bought on eBay) to arrive in the mail? Then I'll have to install the software onto my computer myself instead of downloading the whole program? I won't be able to use the program unless I pop in the CD & install the MPT software? I don't need anything else if I have the CD & USB wires, right? I hope you guys understand now. Thanks! |

ahhhhh, yes, there we go. you are correct on all questions. i have never bought mpt from ebay, but as long as the auction is legit, that cd is everything u need. correct, u will just have to wait to use the program til the cd gets to you. if u had gone wit hthe bvrp, u could have started using it immediately. all along jay and i thought u were planning on buying it from bvrp. good, we are allset now.

Finally, I've made it clear for everyone now! Haha. Well since I first heard about MPT, I was actually planning to buy the CD off of eBay 'cause it's pretty cheap. I don't want to spend a lot on a download when I can get a good deal on eBay. And yes, the auction is legit. The seller has positive feedback & a good rep. Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it. And sorry for all the confusion! Teehee. |

Or you can use RSD Lite which will make you even MORE confused. But you can google that one and usually find something. RSD Lite is what I prefer because it's quick, simple and straight from Motorola.

This isn't an answer to your question, but it is a work around. I have the Razr V3t (with tmobile). From my email address (the same one that I have registered to my phone number) I was able to email myself pictures and ringtones. (Pictures I could attach 10 at a time and ringtones just one). Ringtones were all in MP3 format. HOWEVER, I tried to send my wife some from my email address and it gave her a website where she could view them. I'm not sure why. In one or two cases it couldn't download a specific file. By the way, I used Audacity (downloaded from cnet.com) to edit the files. This is a free program and pretty easy to use. Also, if your phone has a memory card, you could just put the card in a reader, drop the info on it, and put it back in your phone. Hope this helps! (now time for my rant...) It's rediculous that MOTOROLA sells phones and pitches their vercitility and then charges rediculous amounts when you try to use functionality. In any other industry this would be an outrage. Can you imagine having to pay an extra $200 to be able to "unlock" the air conditioner in a vehicle after you purchased it??? That's what they're doing. Most USB devices plug in, automatically find and download the needed drivers, and work immediatly. Motorola makes good phones, but then ruin it by trying to squelch more money out of you. I look forward to someone taking 60% of the market share. |

Its not Motorola that cripples the phones. Why do u think we are able to perform seem edits to re enable certain features? They are possible on the MOTOROLA phone itself, just not available once the service providers are done with it. Its the service providers that cripple the phones. Motorola makes a good product.

I know this is a dumb question, but I am the newest of newbies: I have a Sprint RAZR V3m. When I go to buy MPT from BVRP, it asks me to select the "compatible phones" with a drop-down menu. But the menu does not list the RAZR V3m. It lists "Motorola RAZR V3x." Is that the one I should select? Thank you in advance for humoring me. |
