Default RAZR V3M Error when transferring songs

OK, I use Motorola Phone Tools, went to Multimedia Studio, and cropped a song to use as a ringtone. But, of course, it can't be that easy. When I try to transfer a song (in mp3 format), I get this error: unable to communicate with the mobile phone

This is very annoying, we've had trouble finding the drivers, finally got them, hooked up the phone, and now we get this error.

If anybody can help me, I'll appreciate it a lot. Also, I have NO clue what version of MPT I am using, can't find it anywhere. That is probably the problem too...

Alright, tell me HOW you got the MultiMedia function to work on MPT. Did you perform any seem edits? Or did you follow directions to manually set up MPT to recognize your phone to enable MultiMedia? Either way, You need to do a seem edit to allow your phone to receive data thru the usb cable. As for the version, u can find it while u have it open. So let me know if u did a seem edit. If u did, u will need to do one more. If u havent done any, let me know and I will let u know how to do that. It will be VERY easy to solve your problem.

i also am having the same problem, i got into the multi media option manually and get the same disappointing error...i have tried to follow the instruction to do the neccessary seem edits but when i get to the point of running msu it doesnt acknowledge my phone and i am assuming that is why the seem editor says "not connected"...my phone is a v3m, and verizon is my wonderful provider. sad part is the reason i bought the phone and mpt wasnt so much to listen to tunes but more towards the custom ringtones...i also have a 1gb transflash card installed that i "think" i loaded with some media, through my laptop, that i cant even find and or access...i am new to all of this (obviously) and sure am glad i found this forum, it rocks! any help with our problem would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance

Lars,

You absolutely MUST get MSU working to perform the seem edit 2742 to enable usb data transfer. Otherwise, you will never be able to transfer files thru MPT. You need to follow this thread -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/ra...work-razr.html

Let me know if you are having problems after fixing this.

msu is still not recognizing my phone..it just sits at the screen that is supposed to display the phones esn # and does nothing...i think i am going to try and uninstall everything and start over fresh...maybe i should take the tflash card out as well, i think i have the storage prefrences applied to the card and not the phone...this is starting to drive me nuts...hopefully i'll be back with good news

ok, i think i made a little headway...i got to the msu page where i was having all the problems...it connects now but has an error message saying "your device is not fully powered up" then it goes on to instruct to disconnect and reconnect usb cable and power phone off and back on and that the update will resume...ive done 4 times alreadt i even tried different usb cable to no avail...is there any state that the phone should be in while update is being performed?, like phone closed, phone open, should it be in a particular application on the phone? this sucks bad, by the time i get this working i am going to be sick of it....lol...thanx verizon

when it says phonme not fully powered, leave msu running and try p2kseem anyways. you should then see it say Connected and u will be good to go. Thats not how it is designed to work, but this has been reported before.

Thumbs up Re: RAZR V3M Error when transferring songs

right on! that worked! thanks cincy!! , it seems to loose the connection with the phone occassionally, which is fixed by using the "switch to another mobile phone" option...i'm just happy that i dont have to look at that msu screen anymore ,i thought my head was going to explode this last day and a half trying to figure this out ...i do have one more question...my phone has ran out of memory and i am assuming that all incoming files are being diverted to the tflash card...how do i access them? the phone also seems to be randomly placing what i upload throughout the phone. i wonder if its possible to make folders on the phone side using the transfer studio and moving files to them....thanks again!

Glad it is all working. You cannot add folders to the phone file system. I mean u can, but the phone wouldnt know where to look to access those files. Here is the best way to approach it. All your music should be stored on your transflash card, as well as any pics you use just to look at (not being used as caller id pics)

Ringtones and caller id pics need to be stored on the phone's memory. Your phone should have enough memory to store allllll the ringers and caller id pics u want. Then just put the rest of your MUSIC and pictures, etc on the card.

that makes sense....im gonna give that a try...and accessing the files stored on the card is pretty straight forward...because i know there is files i put on the card that i can see while in file transfer studio but i cant find where to view on the phone...those file were uploaded using my laptop though...that might have something to do with it
