Default Motorola Phone Tools

I recently purchased the software Motorola Phone Tools to sync my V3c to Outlook.

I am running XP Media Edition as my operating system.

Is it true this operating system will not run Motorola Phone Tools ?

According to the manufacturer it runs on Windows 2000 w/SP4 and Windows XP w/SP2 and that is it.

Maybe P2K Commander or BitPM, but I'm not sure these will work.

Thanks Cincyball. I guess when they say Windows XP, they mean the whole XP family.

How did you get it to work ?
Motorola tells me it will not work with XP Media Edition as the operating system. Only XP Home & Professional.
I think you might be confussing Media Center with the actual Operating system XP Media Edition...

When you install Motorola Phone Tools or MPT,let it upgrade to the newest version. I believe it to be versrion 4.21..

Then you will need to dl and install DriverTool version 4.21 from here. Just unzip and run it.

http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/at...-tool-421a.zip

Make sure that you let Windows notice your phone as a modem and install the drivers before you try to do anything.

If you have any problems, question, please holler back.

Not the case. Motorola Phone Tools says it's compatable with XP. What they fail to tell you it's only compadable with XP Home or Professional. It does not work with the XP Media Edition Operating System.

Sorry, I thought that you posted that you had already obtained it.

You can get MPT or Motorola Phone Tools pretty cheap off of the internet. I have seen ~15-25 bucks for it. MPT also comes with the needed cables.

I have read about the Motorola Phone Tools with BONUS CD. The bonus cd allows you to do a lot more than just the regular MPT package.

Downloaded all the updates.

Ran the driver update you supplied.

Laptop still does not see the phone. Nothing happens in the detect/set up.
BTW, thank you for all the help. It's very much appreciated !

To get the laptop to recognize the phone, turn off the phone, connect the cable to the phone and then the laptop. It should pick it up as a 'new device' and install the drivers for you, which is the Motorola Modem.

You will also need to have an internet connection to the laptop.

Once it installs the drivers, you can then use MPT.

Richard,
That's what I have, Motorola Phone Tools.
I called Motorola and talked to support.
They told me the software doesn not work with the operating System Windows XP Media Edition.
It will only run on XP Home or Professional.
Bummer.

Oh, man. Sory about that.

You can use BitPim to connect to the phone. It will allow you to work with phonebook and calendar.

It just will not look as nice as MPT and it will not interface with Outlook.

Again, sorry about the confusion.

Under normal conditions the laptop/pc will 'charge' you phone while it is connected.

Since yours is not recognizing it, it gives you that message.

All I wanted the MPT software for was to Sync with Outlook so I wouldn't have to manually put in 300+ contacts. What a drag this is going to be.
I may just install Windows XP Professional on my laptop with a dual boot system and use XP Professional for Motorola Phone Tools only.

OK, thanks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't frying the phone by having this cable connected.

As richard said, u can use BitPim to ttransfer your contatcts. Then again, u will need to get ur phone to successfully connect to ur comp as a usb modem. Yo uwould need to download and install driver tool, and download and isntall bitpim. All of which are free. Have u tried installing the correct USB drivers by using the "driver tool" install?

As for Media edition, I was posting from my phone and couldnt see exactly what u typed. I thought u said media center. I have not tried it with media edition. Sorry bout the confusion

It sounds like you upgraded Motorola Phone Tools or MPT to version 4.21. Good.

Start MPT and then try this:

On the phone displayed by MPT:
1.) Click on Menu->Setup->General Setup->Communication
the "Device Configuration Wizard" will launch OR "change modem" option will display.
2.) You will then be prompted to select device a device. Choose "Motorola USB Modem" the click "next"
3.) The Detect Driver screen will appear
4.) Check the "Do not automatically detect the driver. Select from list" box, then click "next".
5.) On the next screen, Choose Motorola CDMA on the left and on the right, choose v3mm for Device model, click "next", the click "finish"
6.) You should now see multimedia studio as an option.

Let us know if that helps.

I am also assuming that you have the V3m phone by VZW.
