It is possible to unlock for free with a USB cable, however the procedure is extremely complicated. I was very good at hacking V3's and I thought it was too complicated for me to try. It involved rolling back the bootloader to a previous version.

Hello, I have an unlocked, AT&T Razr (v3) bought off of eBay. I want to port my phone number from T-mobile (monthly plan) to AT&T (pay as you go.) I think that part is easy by buying a phone off the AT&T website and having AT&T move the number for me as part of the setup. AT&T isn't offering the Razr anymore, though. Where can I find out what phone I should buy (and have the number moved to) so that I can then just take the SIM card out and plop it into the v3? As an experiment -- before doing the un-reversable phone number port -- I bought a cheapo AT&T pay-as-you-go phone at Radio Shack. The SIM from that was totally unrecognized by my Razr. Or am I missing something obvious? Thanks. - M.B. |

I was just in my local store yesterday and noticed that they had a V3 out on display again. I asked, and they said that the V3 is being re-released as a prepaid model. She didn't know pricing yet though.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I was just nosing around over at Amazon, and they are still selling a Razr w/ AT&T pay-as-you-go plan. There's even a link with contact numbers for porting your number over to AT&T. Any experience with this? |

No I don't. I've never switched carriers. I started out as a CellularONE customer, then that was absorbed when Cingular formed. Then Cingular became AT&T. Nine years, and never switched...
