I traded in my 5 day old grey V3m for the Silver edition one also today. I then transfered some .wma onto the phone. It seems like the phones menu system loads faster. I am not sure if there are any actual changes to the phone other then appearance, however who knows which is why I upgraded to the newer version within my 15 day trial period.

Subject: How to correct syncing issues with Motorola V3m and Music Essentials Kit

If a customer is having difficulties syncing music after installing the Music Essentials Kit (ex. Sync Failure, Device not recognized, etc.), the following steps explain how to correct this issue.

Have the customer install the drivers that come with the disk.
Have the customer turn off the phone off and then plug it in to their USB port.
Go to Device Manager (on the customer's computer) and make sure under Modems it says Motorola USB Modem (it may have a number after it).
Leave the phone off.
Go to <http://promo.motorola.com/exe/mtpfix.exe>
When the Window pops you will get the options: Open, Save, Cancel, or More Info. Choose Open.
Once the file completes, Power the phone back up.
Open Windows Media Player and Select Sync Music option on the phone under Get It Now>Get Tunes and Tones.

Well I am going to install my phone onto my laptop. I'll carefully record my steps and post them. I installed so much crap onto my desktop to get it to recognize the phone, I am not sure exactly what I did.

[QUOTE=Blur]There is a adapter that comes with the phone that is this little usb to headset jack. However its not a normal size (2.5mm) head jack. So I was in the Verizon store today and asked this question and I stumped all like 10 employees in the store. They thought the adapter was for a 2.5mm jack like ALL the other phones. The adapter however seems to be 1.8mm size.

I bought a 2.5mm headset/boom at the dollar store. Plugged it in to the usb/adapter that came with the Razr v3m and it worked fine. No stereo, of course because the headset isn't stereo - but the jack fit just fine.

I have a headset from my old LG6000 with a 2.5mm and it works fine.

Default Re: RAZR V3m

I wrote Blur an email the other day in response to him wanting the MPT software and I wrote him about my problems with the MPT and tried to steer him away from the product and wanted to apoligize if the email seemed rather harsh.

My first attempt to install the MPT 4.0, I let everything install using their selected 'defaults'. Everything installed flawlessly, EXCEPT, it could not find my phone and I had to pick a driver from a list. I choose V3c and it then finished installing.

After the software installed, the system then rebooted and I activated the MPT. This caused a phone to appear on my desktop. The ONLY option available was the phonebook!! Nothing else.

When I clicked on the phonebook, it opened two screens. One was Outlook and the other was the phonebook from the phone. This crazy program required me to enter the information into Outlook FIRST and then I could upload from Outlook to the phone!

I do NOT want to use Outlook!! I just want to enter information into the phonebook and update the phone OR download the phonebook from the phone, update it, then load it back to the phone!! That's it!! Nothing else.

Well I unstalled everything, deleted the folders from my harddrive - yep it would not clean up after itself as it uninstalled. I then ran some programs to clean the register, then rebooted.

I reinstalled MPT and 'unchecked' the install Outlook option AND I choose to manually install the the drivers, which I picked the V3cm this time. After it installed, the system rebooted and this time I had the option of the phonebook AND the calendar to choose from.

BUT the '#$%$^$# Outlook came back up when I clicked on the phonebook icon and again I had to use Outlook to update the phonebook for the phone. So, I clicked on the calendar button AND voila system crash!!! I had to use the reset button on the computer because the system totally FROZE!!!!

Another call to Verizon and a dozen transfers later, I finally got ahold of a guy who 'admitted' that there was a problem with the MPT software, especially the calendar option and that they were working on it.

So, after a cool off period, I went to the internet and tried to find other software to use on the phone and I ran across more forums that had the same problem I had. Most of them took their software BACK to Verizon and got their $49+ back.

Oh, after the software installed, it had a popup screen that said there was a newer version of the MPT software, which I did let install. I do not know if this was the actual problem OR ??

I also used the mptfix.exe, but still had the same problem.

Sorry for taking so much time and length on this, but I wanted to warn some of you of the problems I had.

I also ran across this on another forum, but I have not tried it bcause I am not int the mood to try to install MPT again, at this moment.

Here's an easy fix, you may have to repeat everytime MPT updates to a new version:

In Notepad... open... C:\Program Files\Motorola Phone Tools\Detect.inf

Find....

Code:
[V3c]
Driver=v3c
Manufacturer=+CGMI: "Motorola CE, Copyright
Model=""MODEL=V3c""

and change it to....
Code:
[V3c]
Driver=v3cm
Manufacturer=+CGMI: "Motorola CE, Copyright
Model=""MODEL=V3c""

Please let us know if anyone had/will try this.

Thanks guys.

I really appreciate you sharing the procedures and files audio_guru. Your procedures and files allowed me to sync songs to my v3m...however...I have to repeat the process everytime I plug the cable back into my usb port because it's not recognized again. Any idea why this happens? Thanks again.

This is from a cell phone user from Cnet.com for the review of the Motorola Razr V3m. It's 7.3 out of 10 which is very good. This is what the user said about the software:

From teaguejb:
'I was told by Verizon yesterday that there is a problem with the usb drivers for this phone and that there is no timeframe for the release of a patch which will correct this problem. One analyst with Verizon told me that it has at times taken 3-6 months for such software fixes. This renders one of the phone's most useful features (usb sync) nonfunctioning. I don't want to pay for Vcast subscription when I can simply put my own music on the phone via my pc. Grrr. Hopefully they'll fix this because otherwise the phone is very good".

Could some one please post or send me the startup ans shutdown graphis along with the verizon.gif graphic. I need to replace mine and didn't back them up. Also be careful with the Theme hacks as some render a couple of the menu keys useless and you can't return to the menu.

Right, all these guidelines are well and good only if they can be used. I am a mac user and nothing that has been posted here has been mac-compatible. The only help i have gotten has been someone who posteed something along the lines of "If you're a mac user, then you're screwed"...

Incredibly helpful. Anyway, I got my Silver RAZR V3m today. So far I am very impressed with the phone. I bought a TransFlash card for it and it works...I can transfer pictures and play music. However, I would like to be able to sync my phone with my mac over USB. I have the appropriate cables and the phone charges when I plug it in. However, nothing else happens. Also, if possible, I would like to use my .wma files as ringtones. Any help is much appreciated.

I ended up buying these cause I thought carrying around the adapter would be retarded and annoying

It has just plugs into the USB port no adapter required music sounds good and it works without having to carry that dumb adapter around all I care about....... Has a button to answer\hangup. If you're listening to music and someone calls you just hit the button on the wire and it starts the call hangup and it plays the music right where it left off. Music and Phone calls come in Stereo sound.

I am not going to tell you to go exchange it, but my son has the gunmetal (gray) V3m and I have the silver V3m. We 'both' like mine better. We held them side-by-side, in the sun, in the shade, in a dim lit room and the black keypad seems to make the numbers and letters stand out better and more clear.

If you do exchange it, tell them your battery is completely charged and that you would like to swap them out. I do not think that they would mind.

You need a 5pin mini usb cable connected to a high power usb port on the computer. It's a standard cable, same one I use for my digital camera.
Some usb ports such as on a hub or keyboard are low power.

Hey, that trick in that order worked out for me.. i think it's the step's of procedure.
But for a side note, while it's in sync mode I've found the device shows up in windows as a device & i can port mp3 files onto it, but my phone cannot play the Mp3. i need to find a way to crack the phone to play mp3 & how do i get the files I wma converted to use as ringtones? I thought I saw a trick. I will have to look into that more.

Hello Robert,

Per our phone conversation here is the information to update your drivers.

Access the Website below:

http://promo.motorola.com/exe/mtpfix.exe

Now follow these steps:
Make sure the phone is not connected to the computer
Run the PATCH (mtpfix.exe)
Open Windows Media Player
Select the SYNC tab
Plug the phone (Cancel any pop ups that may ask you to install MODEM drivers, they are not needed)

(On the phone) Go to Menu, Get it Now, Get Tunes & Tones

Select SYNC music
(By selecting SYNC MUSIC on the phone menu, the phone turns from a modem to a portable music player in the Windows device manager)

Now the phone should show up a VCAST MOBILE PHONE - Removable Storage Card or VCAST MOBILE PHONE - Phone Internal Memory

Now you can sync your music by following the instructions that came with the Music Kit.

If you are still in need of assistance please call 800-922-0204 option 3 and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for using Verizon Wireless.

I had the same problems getting the Music Essentials Kit to work with my V3m. Nothing would work.

I took my phone to the Verizon store and they told me there that a lot of phones shipped with out-dated phone software on them. After getting the up-to-date software installed on my phone, this mtpfix.exe worked with the Music Essentials Kit.

So if you can't get your phone to work with it, I would suggest having them update your phone to the proper software.

I was able to use audio_guru's tutorial to have MP10 recognize my V3m. But when I hit transfer, it comes up "windows media player cannot syncronize the file. The player may not support the file type. I installed that bonus pack he mentioned in the FAQ. Any body know whats going on?

Do i need to have that music essentials kit? maybe thats the problem

hey guys, after googling for a while, i finally found a link to downloading the mobile phonetools. it's version 3.11 at first, which won't recognize the v3m, but if you upgrade it to 3.25 and then to 3.28 and select v3c as the phone, you can get MPT to recognize the phone's calender and phonebook entries. it's cool how you can sync it with outlook.

the only downside is that the multimedia functions are disabled due to VZW's moneymaking schemes. you can't upload/download ringtones, pictures, or anything else to and from it. the only way to get it to work is by tweaking the phone's settings, which has its risks of damaging your phone so i haven't done it yet. i'm hoping bitpim can come out with a new version soon because i couldn't get it to work with my v3m. private message me if you want the link. thanks to all the people here in the forum who have helped me to get my computer to recognize my beautiful pink razr!

OMG!

So I just got this wonderful V3M today and found this thread MOST helpful. Audio's guide was great. When i had problems, i went into device manager and deleted the drivers for the motorola USB modem through there. After that I went back and repeated his steps till it came out alright. i got 3 songs on my phone, all of them play (yea i have a mem card).

Where can i get bitpim?

Ill be playing with this terd of a phone but heres a question. WHY THE HELL IS ANYONE KEEPING IT??! I am because it looks cool, whats everyone else's excuse?

ok, coupla points,
1) to the guy who wants the open close vid's.. (verizon ones I assume)
how do i get em off my phone.. I have a pretty virgin phone & should be able to get em. I know how to use p2k & have seem edited my phone so if that's what I use then we're good.. just tell me what you need, feel free to email me directly pk at phillk and my domain extension is n e t

I've got ballzy spam filters.

2nd point) seem editing works.. but not exactly as "getting rid of verizon" as i thought it'd be. (video's are part verizon part motorolla now, OH well go-fig)

3) i bummed my Pop's trans flash & found that if i put a file onto the chip as .mid (a whole mp3) i can get the phone to recognize it & even copy it into my phone whole (i love havin to 20mb to play with, Ain't much but if you know how to dance then why wait on the wall for a chip?) I can re-up or sync my phone any time with songs again.

4) the plain Jane digi cam cables should work unless your bein impatient about it, (USB is a finicky but 99% working magic)
I use win xp home & at first hadda use only a certain USB port, but the thing that really does the trick is that Motorolla phone update.. that gets windows pumpin in all kinds of drivers (i think, that allowed me to seem edit! Gotta get Motorolla phone update into the seem edit pages)

5th) a barrel o' gold to the man who can tell me WTfrank is up with MPT & outlook, i "imported" my phonebook from my old phone a zillion times & only had the phone number fields being pulled, but it like dumps out the numbers.. I got 200+ numbers I want to import & i hate that it's bein lame!

email if you want clarification & i am NOT a hack/Cell Genius, just a Joe with a "posession" (finding out how to get the most of technology LOL) -so i might NOT actually be able to fix ALL your problems
