Hello. I have a new razr v3m. I would like to know if there is a *free* way to upload my contact phone numbers into the phone instead of manually entering them. My Verizon rep tried to sell me some expensive software for this, but I declined. I already have a usb cable that will work. I just wondered if there was a free way to do this.

Motorola Phone Tools will allow you to do that. You can take the contacts from your Outlook program and just send them to your phone. Not sure if that was the "expensive" softare, but it can be had online from www.bvrp.com for $19.95

Plus, it will allow you to send and create your own ringtones from your favorite mp3's, as well as send/receive pics and videos to/from yourphone, among other things. However, it DOES require hacking your phone for this part, but right out of the box, it will allow you to transfer contacts.

Wow, not a bad route. Any ideas on how I might do the same thing for free? I'm pretty computer savvy and am willing to take the long way around, if it's free. Let me know your thoughts and thanks again!!

Have you already switched to your new phone? I got an email from Verizon about a week before I got my new phone, and it had information about a program called Backup Assistant. It's free if you have an online account (which, if you don't already have, is free) and it backs up all your contacts (to a site you can log in to manage them online as well) and it does this over and over so it's ALWAYS up to date. This is good if your phone gets destroyed for some reason, you'll always have your most up to date contact list available. Then, if you get a new phone you can download the program to the new phone (again, for free) and the second you start it up it'll ask if you want to download your contacts and bam, there you go. Old contacts on new phone for free.

If you have already switched to the new phone you can switch back, either by the online ESN changer if the old phone is EVDO capable, or by phone (tell them the online ESN changer didn't work and they'll waive the fee) and let them know you just want to go back to upload your contact list and they shouldn't have an issue. However, if your old phone doesn't have get it now (like if it's really old... don't know how long ago get it now started, but it's possible to have a non get it now phone I guess) then this option isn't available to you because you have to download the backup assistant from get it now.

That was some excellent info, thanks so much! Yep, you guessed it. I have already switched phones and my old phone is pretty old. A friend of mine has a v3m with the software, so I think I will just bum off him to get the initial load pushed to the phone (unless they have some trickery built into the software that only allows it to talk to the first phone you hook up to it...I hope not). Thanks again, this forum is wonderfully useful.

I don't know how it works with getting it to download your stuff... I think it may be attached to your phone number? I was afraid to log in at first with my new phone because I thought that it might upload my empty contact list (or the one with four numbers that verizon puts in there for you for checking your balance, minutes, etc) on top of my old contact list, but it knew what I was doing immediately and didn't try to do anything weird, just said do you want to download now? And I said yes. Not sure what you're looking to do with your friends phone, but I think if his number is attached to his phone and he uploads his contacts you can't download them, BUT you may be able to move them over to your backup assistant phonebook online (that may be easier than other ways) and then download them to your phone after that.

Here's a link to their page online:

https://www.getbackupnow.com/

You can also add phone numbers from there, which is easier than typing them in, and then download them to your phone.

Hi Everyone: Thanks for the great info on the Razor. I found enough helpful info that I joined the forum. I'm running into a small problem when I try to connect MSU. The first device MSU finds is MotorolaV3m It can't find the drivers for this and continually fails. When I reconnect it comes up and finds the Motorola SUB Modem and installs those drivers just fine. However, because of the Motorolav3m issue, MSU never connects to my phone. Any ideas?

You dont have any other programs open while trying to run MSU do you? If so, close them. When u open MSU, and then connect the phone, it hsould try to install 3 or 4 drivers. Let windows choose automatically. Also, what version of windows do u have?

I've closed all running programs and even a few in the start panel. I'm still getting the same results. MSU continues to pick up the hardware - Motorola V3m and can't find drivers for it. It's picked up the Motorola USB Modem and installed those drivers, but because of the error with the Motorola V3m the software never connects to the phone. I can't seem to find drivers that include the Motorola V3m anywhere.

Alright, Here's my scoop. I just bought a Verizon Motorazr V3m. I also bought a Transcend 1gb Micro SD. I cannot get my computer to recognize my phone, which in turn means i cannot sync any type of music to my phone. Any suggestions?

I sure as hell wish you could just put the micro SD into the converter and pop it into your computer THEN back into your phone, skipping the USB part....but i guess you can't

thanks for the help

You can do it by converter. It must be converted to a WMA file and put in a folder my music for the phone to recognize it.

Try the method described in this post:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1134036

It's for an Amp'd Razr, not a Verizon, but if it's a driver issue and not a firmware issue (something Verizon shut off in the phone), it might work.

Thanks David: I followed the directions from Howard forum (I'd been there once or twice before). Everything pics up the Motorola USB Modem, but it can't find drivers for the Motorola V3m device my computer always finds with the modem. It's as if my computer pics up 2 devices when I first plug in the phone. First the Motorola USB Modem which every write up mentions but then it also finds this Motorola V3m device which I can't find any comments on.

Anyway to re-program the softkeys to other than their defaults "Contacts" & "Music"?

The only one that can be changed is the Down arrow.

Funny thing, when I flashed to Alltel I set my keys to all the same as they were on the Verizon f/w!! I was so used to having phonebook and messaging on the soft keys (that's what they are, right?) and all the arrow ones I set to the same as they were on Verizon cause they are kinda things you want to access quick..! I'm sure most people did exercise their ability to customize these but I thought it was funny that I left them the same.

Question Re: Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions v3c v3m ) post your questions here

I've read through this tread, and have checked a couple other sites, but I'm still unclear about something.
I read in both places that I have to enable the bluetooth/file transfer option by seeming it, and I have done it and was able to complete the things that I wanted to.<< OK I'm a little chicken about doing some things, I always wonder how much can be done without violating conditions of the contract if they do a poll and find out what I've done. Can you see big brother watching?>>:
But I was thinking that enabling that "feature" would let me transfer files via bluetooth with others in my immediate area and I haven't been able to do that. Have I misunderstood? If I have misunderstood, is there a way to enable that feature so I can swap ringtones and such with others?

You have misunderstood slightly. The seem edit enables bluetooth in MPT only...not between phones. Verizon removes this feature, and there is no way to enable it without flashing to Alltel's f/w. But even then, u will not be able to share with other verizon customers since their phones will still be crippled. Hope that clears it up.

I'm hoping for some help. I just picked up a Verizon V3m and edited the SEEM and restarted the phone. I've used MPT and BitPim and I can read and change the calendar and contacts.

I can read my wallpapers on BitPim but there is no option to do this on MPT. Why not? Also I added a wallpaper sized picture to BitPim but when I upload the pictures to the phone, it looks like it's transferring, but when I check it in the phone, the pictures are not there.

Any help? I just want to be a be able to change my wallpaper and ringtones but nothing works even after SEEMing it.

*edit* Well, the pictures finally came through with BitPim as MPT seems useless except for calendars. But I have no idea why it wasn't going in the first place.
Now the problem is after I send up audio mp3 files I have no idea where to look for them on the phone. I went to tunes and tones but nothing's there. I'm not sure how to upload ringtones.

I was just messing around with MPT and looking through my phones manual (Sprint Razr V3m(RED)) and noticed that after my microSD card is formatted there should be a folder called "Music" on it which is where all my downloaded music goes. So I went into MPT and went onto my phone and was looking at the microSD card and saw the folder. I dragged a song into MPT and let it copy onto my phone. It took forever but in the end the song was there in my music folder added to my playlist. It's an .mp3 not a .wma. I still want to sync it through WMP but I can't figure out how.

I don't know how satisfying this answer will be, but I think those are just remnants from the Motorola UI, motorola/shared/audio is on the card as well as the phone and is actually used on the moto UI for pix, audio, etc. The mobile one may have a skins folder in it which can't be used on the moto UI, although there may be a seem edit to enabled that, but again, a remnant...

About a week ago, I charged my phone in a hotel in Boston, and since then, I have been getting "unauthorized charger" messages when I try to charge my phone at home using a normal outlet. I have the Razr V3M from Verizon, and nothing out of the ordinary happened to my phone. I've gotten it to successfully charge just now by trying to charge it multiple times, and I think it worked out of sheer luck. I am using the charger that came with the phone and everything, so I don't know what the deal is. Has this happened to anyone, and how do I go about fixing this?
