Worked for me. I used the driver provided by Wickdaddy (just pointed to the "USBMOT2000.INF" file during the found new hardware routine.) I don't have a memory card yet, but now I can sync to Windows Media Player and load up a couple of songs (after converting to wma format.) Here's the info:

================================================== =
I spoke to Motorola at great lengths yesterday. They are aware of the V3M problem. They have a fix / patch posted here.

http://promo.motorola.com/exe/mtpfix.exe

I had to get my phone (V3m) recognized as a modem first. That meant turning off the phone and plugging it into my PC and then installing the USB driver that came on a CD from Verizon. (Use the Wickdaddy driver here.)

Open up the the Windows device manager and make sure it says Motorola Modem.

Leave the phone turned off.

The next step was to run the fix I downloaded from them. Then when I turned on my phone it was recognized as new hardware as an MTP Media Player.

The main thing was to make sure the PC sees the phone as a modem. Make sure it is still turned off otherwise windows will try to install the V3c drivers before the patch is applied. After you apply the patch turn the phone on and then you should be able to install the drivers needed to let windows see it as a Media Player

================================================== ======

Hope this info helps.

You'll still need the headphones from Verizon to listen to music (or play them on the little speaker I'm more interested in moving photos and playing with ring tones, so I guess I have to get a card to play with that.

Thanks. I'm going to save your steps!

I recently downloaded bitpim however there is no selection for V3m just V3c and V3cm. I tried both selections available with no success.

I picked the port that said under description, "Your operating system shows this driver and port is correctly configured and a device attached." So I am pretty sure I picked the correct port.

When I click get phone data and selected phonebook, I can hear the phone make a little double beep and the screen lights up so I think its connecting. However I get this error, "Moto-V3cm on COM16: The phone is not responding while manipulation the filesystem."

I can go to Edit then Phone Info and it finds, "Motorola CDMA V3m Phone." I'm new to bitpim, so please help.

Thanks for the reply.

The only difference between your screens and mine are my COM16 is equal to your COM4. I have a lot of bluetooth crap installed.

The other thing that is different is I am using driverversion 2.0.0.4 driverdate 2005-1-10 where you are using driverversion 3.4.0.0 driverdate 2005-09-29. I am using the driver posted by wickdaddy which he got from music essentials kit and the patch posted by Festus440 which he got from Motorola. Are you using these same drivers/patch?

Maybe try running the setup program that was included in the Wickdaddy file.
I did that a one point. When I did the setup, I used the inf file that was in the Windows2000 folder, but it has the same driver date as you. You may have to uninstall the previous driver first.

I found a much easier way. Go to http://mobile17.smashsworld.com/ and send a picture message to yourself with the ringtone you want. They automatically truncate the mp3 file to be a ringtone and it starts recording whenever you want it to. You can then get the ring tone through a picture message and save the sound on your phone and wa la, you have your ringtone. Hope this helps.

This is my first Verizon phone. It's total crap how they lock your phone in all these ways. Is there anyone out there who knows how to unlock this stuff? I have the USB cable and Bluetooth both available to me.

Anyone know a good resource for a step by step guild on how to do this with a V3m. Or anyone willing to work togather collectively like on AIM or MSN to accomplish this common goal of riding their phone of Verizon crap. It would be nice to not have to buy all this additional software such as Motorola Phone Tools 4. http://motorola.digitalriver.com/DRH...uctID=40171400
I personally think such necessary software should be included with the phone purchase!

this post is funny! the v3m uses the v3c drivers! motorolla will not tell you this but it is true! all you need to do is call verizon wireless data tech support and let them know about the driver not loading correctly and they will transfer you to the man. of the essentials kit for some registry editing! there are more than one manufacturer in the circle so take that into consideration before the bashing starts! not everything you see in a forum is true about these devices! most of it is pissed off users that have no idea and to much pride to call tech support for something they do not know how to use obviously. remember the people in here only do the same hing you do look for answers online and not with the people that have training!

True. The first two Verizon people I talked to on the phone were clueless. They connected me to a Motorola Rep who was also clueless and told me that it was a Verizon software problem. Not all people who are supposed to be in-the-know are actually in-the-know. Some times it takes asking others, such as those who post to this forum, questions. A post in this forum that led me to a Motorola patch link, is what fixed my phone to where it would sync with Windows Media Player 10. Why didn't the Motorola Rep know about their own patch?

Hello everyone,

I recently discovered this thread and read through it and came up with somewhat of a tutorial. It includes detailed directions for getting your V3m to work with your PC as well as the USB Driver (pulled of my Music Essentials Kit CD) and the Motorola Patch.

I hope this helps anyone still haveing problems. I am able to update the microSD card and phone memory with music via the cable. The zip file with drivers, patch, and .pdf instructions has been attached to my post.

Thanks guys.

Can anyone tell me if it's even possible to use .wma files stored on the phone itself as ringtones? My sister just got a new v3m and I'm trying to help her out...she doesn't have an additional memory card and doesn't plan on buying one...the memory on the phone is more than enough for her. But in reading some threads it seems the ringtones need to be on the card and not the phone itself...is this true? Thanks for any help.

(I have black v3 with Cingular and jeez, I can't believe what Verizon puts you guys through. I mean Cingular has it's issues too (plenty of them) but at least the phone I paid for isn't crippled. And you guys are paying customers, that's the f'd up thing. I hope some eventually figures out how to safely flash and unlock the v3m so you can just use Motorola Phone Tools 4.0 like everyone else. )

==============================================
By the way, here is some info about ringtones, mp3 and BitPim.
You need BitPim, mini SD card (flash card), cable. No seem edits. Keep the phone as it is.
-------------------------------
First prepare the flash card. Format it on PC using FAT32. Shut off the phone. Insert the card. Start the phone. Probably you can format the card by the phone, but I just trying to share how I did it. So, it is up to you to check different way.
-------------------------------
Playing mp3.
Rename your *.mp3 files to *.mid.
Put them to the root directory of the TF card.
You can do it directly on PC or by BitPim via cable.
Reboot the phone, you can play now all those files. To keep the mp3 files here is a wasting the time and pace. You can play them only one by one. You can not use player. So, this is good only as the first step to add ringtones. To listen them all, synchronize you phone.
-------------------------------
Adding ringtones.
Move mp3 ringtones renamed to mid from the root directory of the TF to the phone:
Get It Now -> Get Tunes & Tones (All of the available files appear on the bottom).
All preloaded ringtones have 2 Options:
1. Set as ringtone.
2. Set As Ringer ID.
There are no options to move or delete.
All added files will be marked by C (CARD).
For them you have only 2 following options:
1. Rename.
2. Move.
Select needed file -> Options -> Move. It will ask you to move audio to the phone. Select YES.
You can move as many files as you want.
When you are done, using BitPim go to the root directory of the phone and deletes 2 files: TmpTneDB.db and MyToneDB.db.
Reboot the phone (by BitPim if you want to). Now all of your ringtones are ready.
All audio file phone keeps in Motorola/Shared/Audio folder. Only the phone has access to that folder. By BitPim you can only read/save the files. When you try to add or overwrite existing files, BitPim shows the message similar to “This folder is locked by manufacture”.
========================================
Did this technique work to get ringtones?
