When you put ringtones on the phone, put them in the phones root directory.

On the V3m you you can see what songs/ringtones you have by:

Menu->Get It Now->Get Tunes & Tones

There will be a list at the bottom of the screen, once you get into Get Tunes & Tones.

Not sure about the V3c, but it should be pretty close.

Has anyone else had a problem with the headphones that came with the Music Essentials Kit? With mine I can only hear music play through the right earpiece, nothing from the left. If this has been covered elsewhere within this thread please direct me.

Well, V3m phones are mono and not stereo. I do not use the Music Essentials Kit, but I and others have used our stereo headphones. You do not get stereo out.

MPT stands for Motorola Phone Tools. You can buy it off of the internet pretty cheap. It comes with it's own cable(s). IF you get the MPT with BONUS CD, it is supposed to UNBLOCK the phone for you, otherwise you will have to SEEM the phone in order for MPT to work. More on SEEM'ing when you get MPT.

MPT usually comes as version 4.0. When you install it, let it upgrade to version 4.21. Also when you do this make sure that you download the DriverTool version 4.21 from this site or your favorite site.

MPT, when installed will actually display a replica of the V3 series phone on your desktop. It shows MultiMedia, calendar, phonebook, internet connection.

With the MultiMedia, you can take pictures, ringtones, songs, etc... either off your computer and put them on your phone OR you can take them from your phone and put them on your computer.

There is step-by-step wizard that expalins how to do the transfers in MPT.

I know this will probalby open up a bunch more questions and if it does, please do not hesitate to ask.

E-bay or amazon is pretty resonable in price. Around $10-25 is pretty good price.

VZW wants about $40-50 for it.

Music/songs/ringtones, all will go into the root directory of the phone. They will all show up under My Music or My_Music.

BUT you might want to verify with Cincyball - I would be wrong.

Hello all. It's been a while since I've been online. I hope by now Cincyball and Richard have burried the hatchet. I still need help turning off the annoying low battery chime. Unfortunately, turning the reminders off didn't stop it. But it did keep the phone from beeping every minute or so when I have an unviewed missed call. Call me ____, but I like to let my battery drain all the way (or at least almost all the way) before charging. There must be some way to allow the phone to die silently! I just need help finding it.

Call me ____, too, because I let my phone shut off because there is not enough battery power, before I charge the battery.

The Instructions I gave you was how I turned mine off. I will see if I can come up wih something else.

I FINALLY got mine to work. I started from the very beginning, installed the 4.21 Driver Tool, then motorola phone updates, and then I redid the seem, and went I configured my phone in MPT, I set it to V3c FIRST, and then changed it to V3cm. I had the diconnect the USB cable from the computer a couple times, but now it works just fine.

Make sure when you do ringtones that they aren't too long or you'll get an error code "request denied by phone (content too large)" or something like that.

If anyone needs more detailed instructions, let me know so I can give a step by step reply instead.

FYI

Just got back in from my favorite VZW store. The guy I call, PD, told me he just got in yesterday from a big to-do meeting of the techie's. He said that they have taken away alot of their responisbilities as far as being a techie goes.

The most important thing is, they are no longer allowed to go BACKWARD's when flashing someone's phone and putting on "updated" software. When they do flash someone's phone and install software, it has to be the most current version of software for that phone.

Then he said, they are supposed to charge customers for that unless it is under warranty. Minimum price is $20.

This was cool! Instead of getting your software 'upgraded' from version .03 to .04, the software is wiped out and the most current version put on the phone.

Hey All,

Just got a Verizon V3m. Yeah, OK, silly me but I really had no choice as I use Verizon's EV-DO cellular data service for my IBM laptop. Anyway, been reading all these posts on now to hack the software that Verizon has installed on the phone and it sounds sweet but I got one big question - DOES HACKING SOFTWARE IN THE PHONE LIMIT OR INTERFERE WITH THE PHONE'S PRIMARY FUNCTION OF, WELL, BEING A PHONE? If I want to access any of Verizon's download features or anything else, can I? I'm quite happy to hack the phoneware and have a little bit of technical knowhow but am unsure of how this affects the phone's interfacing with the actual cellular system to which it is connected.

Wow, talk about asking the same question in sixteen different ways, huh?

Anybody have any idea??

Lemme know

Hacking will not interfere with the phones primary function or what you want to do, unless you turn something OFF.

The object here is to turn features back ON, that were turned off.

System, software and hardware:
Windows Xp w/SP2
Motorola Phone Tools ver 4.0
mini-usb to full usb cable

1.) Install the MPT 4.0 software, read/follow the instructions on the screen as it installs. In the process of installing the MPT software, it goes out on the internet and checks for updates. You will be prompted to download, then install the update(s). At this point that is ALL you are going to do.

If you are prompted enter/select a Phone Profile. Do NOT do it, ignore it, let it set there, do not touch it. All you do for this step is install MPT software, download and install the updates. That's it, nothing else.

2.) Reboot your system when you are prompted to. When the system finishes rebooting, click on the MPT icon to activate the software.

3.) NOW create a 'new' phone-profile, example 'rwsrichard Razr V3m'. click on OK twice.

4.) the 'phone wizard' screen will display. Choose CABLE option and click on Next button.

5.) you will be prompted to turn on phone, connect phone to cable, then connect cable to USB port on PC.

6.) 'Phone Setup' then starts installing needed drivers. It will then try to detect your phone. If it does not detect it, allow it to launch 'live update' to try to get your drivers and then redect your phone.

7.) when it cannot detect it again, you will be prompted to select your phone and drivers. Choose CDMA from the list on the left and then choose V3cm from the list on the right. then click Next.

It will go through it's detect process again, but should find it this time. If it did, you will get a 'Congratulation!' screen displayed. Do not click on anything as the next screen will display automatically - at least mine did.

8.) The 'Phone Setup' screen will display. this puts the MPT Phone icon on the desktop. Watch the phone screen as it will show 'initializing phone, please standby ...' This may take a minute or two.

Once it connects or finishes initializing; in the upper left corner of the MPT phone screen it will show a strength meter when it connects. The upper right hand corner, will show the strength of your battery. Using your mouse you can you the full function of the MPT phone keys to make calls, end calls, check your mail, etc...

Also note that the options: phonebook, calendar, multimedia studio, synchronizing and txt messaging icons will be grayed out until you move your mouse over them.

That is how I did it.

No 'seeming', no bitpm, nothing else.

Question 2.) Did not install the DriveTool.exe. Just installed from the MPT cd. It took care of all the updates for me.

Hope this helps.

When I did this i tried to open the "my phone" tab in the media center. then it says it can't connect to it. and i DID do the SEEM changes needed

Which version do you have installed?

If you upgraded to version 4.21, you will need to install the 4.21 driver.

http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/at...-tool-421a.zip

After installing the driver, Make sure that Windows XP picks it up as a modem. Then start MPT.
