Default Re: RAZR V3m - Removing from Library

It looks like you guys have moved on to bigger and better things, but if you can help me out with this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

I finally got my music tranfered on to the removable drive. But when I go to the library and try to play the songs, a screen pops up and says "removing from library" then "adding to library" and all of the newly transfered songs are gone. (only one song remains which was my first transfer)

(sorry if this has already been asked, i couldn't find it in the previous posts)

I have not heard of this, except under a couple of conditions. If you do not have adminstrator rights, but limited rights, the install will not keep.

Also if you do not have your system set to save your settings when you reboot, it will not keep the installs.

MPT is over 600 mg. Don't think most email sites can handle a file that large. Unless you break it down to over 100+ files.

My son is EXTREMELY disappointed in the fact that he went and had the new King Kong put on his SD. With the battery completely charged, it will not last long enough to play it, so he is looking into an extended battery.

Yes you need the extended battery. I uploaded Saw 2 to my phone, and was able to play the whole thing with the extended battery with no problem. When I bought the phone, I bought the extended battery, because from past experience with Moto phones it really isnt worth it to use anything else. I haven't even charged my regular battery yet - I will only use it for dinner parties or occassions where I want the phone to be as compact as possible.

First off, Hello all and I am very impressed with how for you have come.

Sneeking time over the past two days (at work) I have finally read all the way to the end.

Couple of things,

1) I have read everything but without much experimentation it doesn't seem clear to me what are the simplest steps to get everything working properly on my v3m. Seems many have tried many different things only to have someone else help them 'fix' their situation (many like that, can I avoid all that?). I just now went over to Motov3m.com so I do understand I have more reading to do. I am starting from scratch, I haven't tried anything yet and do not yet have any software.
So has anyone written a step by step (should be 'stickied' for us extreme noobs ? )

2) Can I buy MPT for $13 at Amazon and upgrade it to 4.0? Thus avoiding another $24 buying 4.0 outright?

Thanks guys!!

Drew

Saw a couple of batteries on the Internet for sale from a battery company the other day. I will try to find the site again. Here is the specs:

Normal battery is ~ 750 mah
Extended bttery is ~ 1400 mah
The battery company has a new 'polymere' extended battery ~ 1900 mah. The kicker to it is, that it is the same size as the 750 mah!! Cost + shipping + insurance = ~ $52.00

They REQUIRE you to buy insurance, ~ $6 and pay ~ $17 shipping. The rest goes on the cost of the battery.

I am gong to word this in this way because it seems to be true.

On SOME systems everything works GREAT together no matter which program/product you install first, or second or third, etc...

On SOME other systems, you have to do some minor 'tweaking', ie.. seeming OR installing specific drivers, etc.. to get the progrms to work correctly and with each other.

I myself prefer to work with MPT. The draw back to MPT is that the phonebook and calendar and a couple of other items works with Microsoft Office Outlook's phonebook, calendar, etc..

The rest of the stuff from MPT is independent of Outlook, ie.. Multimedia, etc...

The Multimedia is good because you can dl stuff from Internet and use Multimedia to EDIT ringtones, songs, etc...

Also MPT allows you to make phone calls, send txt messages and a bunch of other stuff, WHILE the phone is hooked up to your compter.

Speaking for myself, I give MPT a big thumbs up.

BitPim is another product some prefer to use, because #1, it is FREE!! It can do virtually everything that MPT can do, but I do not think it will let you EDIT multimedia like MPT. I could be wrong on this. Plus some said that they could change some of the phones features without SEEMING the phone through BitPim.

Then you have MSU and P2KSeem. You will need these just incase you need to SEEM the phone to make it work with some of the programs OR to activate some of the features that VZW has turned OFF! Remember, this about SEEMING, you do this at your own risk. BUT if you follow instructions and procedure very carefully, you should have no problems at all.

So to answer you question about which product to use. It's up to you. Just go for it!! BUT I would get one thing working at a time, before Imoved on to another.

I think I would use MPT first. Also, ordering MPT from the Inter for $13 that is not ver 4.0, I would NOT do. There is other sites that offer MPT 4.0 with two cables for around $16 shipped to your doorstep.

If you cannot find the procedures listed somewhere in this thread, try

http://www.motov3m.com

that rosenjon has setup. He is moving step-by-steps to this site.

Hope all that helps.

That does help, thank you.

Ok, so first thing is to jump in with both feet and be confident that you guys are waiting nearby with the lifepreserver. I can do that.

If you come across MPT v4.0 at that $ please post where, I'll go now to search.

Can someone confirm for me that BitPim calendar sync doesn't work? Although it doesn't error out, I don't see my items in the BitPim Calendar when I sync phone to computer. I haven't tried BitPim to phone sync yet.

Yea, I think something is up with my computer. Its getting aggrevating but now Im just getting everything set so I can trasfer all my rings and such in one shot. I should try to install all this on my PC just to see how it all works.

Has anyone found anything really cool yet? I mean transferring rings and pics were so 300 posts ago! Anyone know of a good program to resize pics for wallpapers and such?

Here is what would be really cool....if someone can figure out how to unlock the /brew/mod/108889 directory so we can upload playlists to the phone.

Verizon has locked this directory -- is there anyone out there with crazy seem editing skills that can figure out how to make this directory writable? I can't copy to or from this directory at the moment.

There is an option to choose the data source under sync settings. I don't have any other programs that I use for phonebook. Any one know if you can actually change it from Outlook/Outlook express?

Well....if you don't have any other programs, then just choose Default Calendar and Default Phonebook, which will sync to the MPT program itself. As far as syncing to another third party app, I imagine you would have to research what plugins are available for that app.

To change to default cal/phonebook:
1) Open Synchronization Suite, Go to Tools, Synchronize, Settings, Configure Synchronization.....

2) Go to the Data Source Tab, and choose default phonebook and default calendar.

This should now sync to the MPT program itself. Hope that answers your questions...

There is also the option NOT to interface with Outlook when you install MPT. You have to choose the Custom Install and uncheck Outlook. BUT SURPRISE, it interfaces with Outlook anyway.

Do not get me wrong, I do not mind Outlook, its just that Outlook puts some restrictions on ALL phone numbers that I do not care for. IE.. When you enter a phone number, Outlook automatically attaches the Area Code onto the phone.

I only like to use the area code IF the number I am dialing REQUIRES it. Even VZW tech admits that going through the area code for a local call, CAN slow done the process of calling, not that a few seconds is going to make any difference.

rwsrichard: This can be found in the BitPim file system browser. Once you have bitpim setup correctly, just go to filesystem on the lefthand side.

You will see a folder with a / that is the root directory in the right hand pane. When you click the + button, it expands.

The directory I am most interested in unlocking is /brew/mod/10889, which will allow for playlist sync with your computer. This directory also appears to store downloaded cover art for VCast Music Downloads.

Verizon clearly wants to protect a number of BREW directories so you can't copy apps to/from the phone, but it is frustrating that they locked this directory, since it only stores playlists. I don't think there is a huge market for tiny cover art downloaded from VCast, so this shouldn't be the reason it is locked.

Anyway, if you're out there Verizon, give us something to unlock this directory, so we can sync playlists. This is a music player phone afterall.

Another problem??

There is no file system in my list. So I went and looked at each menu option and found File System under the View option. Guess, what, it is grayed out. I cannot access it.

Not for the next part, I can still dl from phone, make changes to phonebook/calendar in BitPim, and ul to phone, with no problems. I have not tried to make changes in the multimedia section and ul that to the phone.

You got it. You do NOT have to change out the battery cover.

Whether or not it lives up the 1900mah, is something I do not know.

Can you post a link to their website? I did a google search and just came up with battco.com which isn't for online ordering really.

I'd order the one from ebay but it is coming from Canada, shipped by Canada post. In my experience that is very slow (2 weeks if you are lucky).

Once you download, run setup.exe, and configure it for 3GPP + AMR

4) Then run the program, and drag and drop the movie file into the program.

Choose an output directory, and the outputted file can be played on the phone.

For fairly small movies, you can go into MPT and upload the video.
For full length movies, you will need to upload directly to the root directory of a transflash card because MPT will not load files over a certain size. The phone should see the video if its in the root of the transflash card. If it doesn't, go into Menu...Get Pix and Flix...My Flix... Then select a video, go to "options", and select "Move", and then choose "yes" for move flix to card. This will make the phone look to the transflash card for videos.
Sweet!

I transferred over a movie!

One question is how I can transfer this movie to my micro sd card?
It shows the file as locked and won't let me move it like movies taken on the camera.

Thanks for your walkthrough!
