A dual band phone can switch between two frequencies. It can switch from both the 800-MHz and 1900-MHz bands. In other words, from analog to digital. A dual mode phone can switch between two types of transmission technology. For example, AT&T offers dual mode phones which can switch from AMPS to TDMA and back. When you combine the two into dual band/dual mode, then the phone can switch between two frequencies AND two transmission technologies. Tri mode is basically the same idea, except it'll either mean that it has 2 digital technologies + analog capability OR it has 1 digital technology that are in 2 separate bands + analog capability. |

Funniest thing ever.... I have an old Sanyo 4000. Its a dual band. Its on Sprint, which is CDMA 1900. When I roam on an analog carrier, SOMETIMES I get Verizon, who is CDMA/AMPS 800 in my area (other areas its CDMA 1900/AMPS 800), and sometimes I get ATT Wireless Services AMPS 800. Is that normal? I would think it is, since AMPS is standard. Is one network, ATT or Verizon better for analog? I also have a Tri-Mode Samsung N400, and in Digital it will get Sprint 1900, and Verizon CDMA 1900 (if in that area) but normally gets Verizon 800, and it does the same thing with ATT.....ALTHOUGH, a FEW TIMES..in DIGITAL mode, I got ATT Wireless Services. But I know for a fact that ATT runs a TDMA 800. How can it be possible that Im not only getting a CDMA 1900, 800, and AMPS 800, but ALSO a TDMA 800?? Is that even possible, or am I just freaking out, and not paying attention, and THINKING its on TDMA. It doesnt say analog roaming, nor does it even sound choppy like analog. Its weird... Any ideas? |

Yeah your Sanyo 4000 is dual band, so where digital coverage is available, it'll pick up Sprint's 1900. When digital isn't available, the phone will automatically search for an analog carrier and depending on where you are, it'll pick up AT&T, Verizon or whoever carries the AMPS 800 in that area. So its common to see different 800 carriers. As far as your N400 is concerned, I'm not sure about picking up AT&T's TDMA 800 digital. Since the phone is a dualband/trimode phone, it could but someone else has to clear it up for me because I'm not quite sure. |
