Sending RINGTONES to PHONE (not midi)

This is only known to work for the t720 but it should work for other phones as well..if not please post which phones it doesnot work for....

OK Basically u need 3 things
1. Data Cable
2. Ringtone Converter(Coding workshop ringtone coverter) most of use have this..if u do not its easily avaiable..
3. Ringtone Sender(Tone Assistant)

You might need to join this group before u can access that file...sorry
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vzw_t720/

The program basically sends KEYS to the phone....u can use it to send any key to the phone...so basically...what u do is

1. goto media center
2. goto my tones
3. click on new tone
4. SELECT NOTES and then CLICK CHANGE
5. Run the program(Tone Assistant) and copy and paste the keycodes from Ringtone Converter to the Tone Assistant
6. Chose correct comm port(this is usually trial and error)
7. Click "Send Keypresses" on Tone assistant
8. Click Ok on phone
9. ENTER a NAME and CLICK DONE

if you do not understand something please ask but before u do that please read instruction CAREFULLY!!

I hope this help..its not the best thing but its something ...

I was wondering if you could tell me why whenever I connect the data cable my phone locks up. I can push buttons all day long and nothing happens but when I disconnect the cable it works fine. It will even restart sometimes. This only des this with the ringtone software.
Thanks

Thanks for the information, but do you know anyway to get polyphonic rings to a Verizon Wireless T720 through this method? Or through any method???

When you say not possible yet, do you mean that its just not possible now or that you believe it will be made possible in the near future? I'm just anxious to put lots of cool sounding rings on my phone before I was made aware Verizon Wireless made that impossible.

Eventually someone will crack it or Verizon will loosen their restrictions. If it was written by humans, it can be cracked, it is just a matter of time.

I think he means it hasnt been figured out yet....by the way...whats the point of this?? u can just keypress it in manually. no need to waste money on a usb cable unless it was possible to send polyphonic ringtones...which nobodys figured out how to do yet.

The point is that with ringtone converter you can convert ringtones into the keypress format, copy it, paste it into the ringtone sender, and be done. Much easier.

The USB cable is also used for syncing phonebooks and calendars, so it isn't a waste of money especially since it only costs ~$5-10.

Hi,

This is CPE3... the person who wrote "Tone Assistant". ylexot is right, it is just to make entry of the mono ringtones easier. The program is nothing special, it is just an application of the work going on in our Yahoo! group. One of the members found the command to send keypresses to the phone and I, having been annoyed with the manual entry in Tone Composer, decided to make a little program to automate the process. I am in the process of writing v1.3 which will take in either keypresses or RTTL. But since classes have started, this may have to wait.

So... the point is that this isn't something monumental at all. We don't know how to send MIDIs, but as soon as we know, that would be incorporated as well.

Anyway.... come on over to Yahoo! and see what's going on.

I'm using this.... It's COOL !!!

The only problems I have so far are strange ones and I figured out how to work around it.

Problem: Using the USB cable and a 1100mah battery, the battery indicator on the phone shows an almost dead battery and it tries to charge it (Even though the battery is fully charged). When I try to upload Ring Tones or TrueSync it locks my phone up.
FIX: I figured I would try the Original little battery. That seemed to to fix that problem.
FIX: Another way might be using no battery and powering it via USB cable but have not tried this yet.

Problem: Using the USB cable the computer sometimes reports the phone as an unknown USB device.
FIX: Hook the phone to the USB cable and reboot computer with phone on. 100% of the time the computer reported it corrrectly.

Hey,

don't mind at all. The first version was something I threw together in 20 mins or so. I posted the source code in hopes that people would modify it and make it better. If you could, just post the new version in the Yahoo! group. That way we can all work on it to make it better. If I get a chance, I will add try to add RTTL support.
