Default Cingular T720 wireless internet difficulties

I just recently upgraded my phones with Cingular and go the new T720 phone with free Wireless Internet. However, everytime I click on browse, I get the following error message: "Network Not Available". I was told by the sales people that the phone would take a download in about an hour and it never got this. The phone CSR said that was not the case and they she got tech support who said that everything is set up and working fine. He was not sure why it was not working.

Any suggestions? I do not have a way to set anything up for the Browser in the Settings menu.

Default Cingular T720 wireless internet difficulties

Welcome to the world of Cingular this is but a taste of what is to come. I have gone through days honestly to get the wap service fixed on my phone. since on the t720 there is no way to change any settings on the phone its all the default. try it several times at the best antenna range. first time it may not work normaly for my self after one or 2 trys it works. Get on the phone and call 611 ask for teir 2 they will transfer you to teir 1 , verify you are talking to some one from teir 1 explain that you are having a problem and would rather not waste you time and ask to be connected to teir 2 once that happens it will not take long for it to get fixed. Thats a little tip I got from spending 10 hours in the store. Teir 2 always gets it fixed far faster

Yep, what ShadowWolf said. I went through the EXACT same thing, but on the phone. Took close to 2 hours, so call from a landline. Plus you have to reboot the phone once or twice.

Did you guys actually get it "free"? Or did you have to pay extra for the service on your monthly bill? I thought Cingular charges you to turn on the WAP service.

Nope, there is nothing free about it. It's $6.99 a month with 1mb; $14.99 for 3mb; $29.99 for 7mb; $49.99 for 13mb.

You can't use the WAP Tunnel with GSM/GPRS

does anyone know if you can download ringtones from ringtone jukebox? i tried downloading ring tones from matrixm, and when i went to my locker, i received an error message that would NOT let me download the ringtones i selected. i tried following the directions by downloading another ringtone and then going back to the original one i downloaded, but to no avail, i could not. i thought about trying to purchase the ringtone from another web site (ringtone jukebox), but they don't give you a trial ringtone like matrixm does, and i'm hesitant to blow 2 bucks on something that won't work because cingular's got issues with their wireless internet service? any suggestions where i can get ringtones that will download to a cingular motorola t720 for sure? Default Cingular T720 wireless internet difficulties

Update: Well, I now have the service, but I now get stuck at the login when it asks for "Phone:" and "PIN:". What do I put in there? They had me try my login id and pin for mywirelesswindow and then tried having my put in my phone number and the number I use to unlock my phone. Neither seems to be the correct one, as I get login failed each time. Any ideas?

On the Price: I got it for free for my contract term. However, if it is not working, it really is free. The minutes come off the airtime charges. There are no other fees for the service from Cingular. I have this confirmed by the store sales rep and two people on the telephone now.

Whoa! Are you saying I can just call up Cingular and ask them to turn on my wireless service without any additional cost? What number did you call? I called customer service and they asked me if I wanted to sign up. So I thought there may a charge involved.

Call CS again and ask to speak to someone in LEVEL 2 Tech support. Your phone will have to be provisioned.

I was told that the T720 only supported GPRS (Wireless Internet Express) not the Dial-up (Wireless Internet) If it does, thats cool, just be sure. Cause if it doesn't use your airtime, and you DL alot of games, pix, ringtones, etc. It won't take long to burn through 1mb and it will get expensive quick.

Once it's provisioned, the LOGIN will ask for your USER-NAME and PASSWORD, instead of PHONE and PIN. You will punch in your "My Wireless Window" user-name and password once and you shouldn't need to again.

Default Cingular T720 wireless internet difficulties

Finally after getting passed around and 2 Tier 2 Support people, I was able to access the wireless internet. While the information in their computers had all the correct information, their gateways did NOT have the proper information. They had to manually add my accounts for both phones. The one which had the Wireless Internet took immediately and I was up and running. He said that the download to the other phone would take 30 to 45 minutes and then would need to be turned off and back on and would be up and running.

We do not have Wireless Internet Express in Indiana. I have just the standard Wireless Internet and it is not charged by the number of downloads. I was assure this again on this call. I have the standard Wireless Internet and the time online is charged against my plan airtime only, no other fees. The special Wireless Internet for free is for people who are near their contract expiration (I still had over 6 months left on a 2 year contract). So, I extended the contract and got the free Wireless Internet.

While it is pretty basic service and not like the normal web, it is kind of cool. Plus, the University is rolling out a new wap service (and being in tech support there and providing end user support, this will allow us to have a heads up on providing support).

All in all, it was not too bad. I have maybe had to be on the phone about a total of an hour talking to different people (most times for about a 4 minute wait and then 10 to 20 minutes talking to CSRs), but working in a call center helps me navigate the political structure in call centers.

Cool, glad to hear you finally got it all working. Have you tried downloading a game yet? I'm just curious as to how long it will take over the Dial-up connection. Some are quite large by WAP standards(from 40 to 70 KB's) If your a card player check out the Casino games in Cingulars Arcade. BlackJack is especially ADDICTIVE and are just .99 to buy You can see all they have to offer here:Cingular Arcade

wileadams, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me how you got them to fix your problem! I've been having the same problem for a week now, and have spent a good 5 hours on the phone about 20 different times now (no lie)! I too get the "Network Not Available" message, and they say I'm all set up in their systems. They've filed a trouble ticket for the network in my area, but I know it's not that because at the Cingular store in my area, they have a display phone which can WAP perfectly fine. SO if you could please tell me how in the world you got them to fix your problem, it'd help a lot. What did you say/ask them that may help? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Default Cingular T720 wireless internet difficulties

Well, Yahoo! works on my phone and Cingular's portal as well as the University's experiment at a WAP for e-mail, but... I can not seem to get MatrixM.com to work for downloading RingTones or Wallpaper/ScreenSavers. I get a 406: Access Not Allowed. Not sure if it is on MatrixM's side or on Cingular's side for this error. I have a few pics of my family I was trying to upload so I could have my nephews pics with me. Kind of frustrating.

I have not tried to download any games because I was not able to get the Wallpaper or RingTones to work. But I will try them tomorrow evening during my free nights & weekends time.

I was also wondering what the settings are for "Email Msg Setup" for the My Wireless Window. Seriously, you would think that Cingular would have a handout to help assist in setting all of this up.

Anyway... To get it all setup (or at least one phone working), I just had to keep trying. I can generally tell if a CSR is going to be knowledgable in the first few minutes and if not, I ask for a supervisor or tech support. All I can say is to keep trying.

The t720 can accept both connections on gsm. The home and express home uses minutes but if you plan on using the wap to download then its far cheaper having unlimited nights and weekends helps too the express has limited space and the fees can add up. there is no way to change the setting in the phone it self so get either one. Those fools on tech support have no isea what they are doing. Try and try again untill you get some one that knows something. about the phone asking for a number and pin thats an error message that should not show up. dissconnect and power down and try again if it doen not work call. Also ask for some compensation for your time normaly they will give you sevaral hundred minutes free, the service free or even in one of my most extreem cases a month of service free.
Cingular has probples but so do all others.
