Default gonna get a T720, best providor?

Hey All,

Currently I have a Moto Timeport 8767 with Verizon, and I'm thinking seriously of upgrading phones. I'm thinking I'm gonna switch providers even though I've been with Verizon for like 5 years because of their GIN service. At&t, Cingular and T-Mobile all have these phones. Is the phone basically the same regardless of the provider once you get into the GSM?

I probably wont go with At&t because Although I live in NYC, i also go back to Monmouth County new jersey and their GSM hasn't hit there much. That leaves me with Cingular and T-Mobile. Cingular was whom I like the best, but their charging for a decent voicemail bugs me...

Can the T720 sync contacts with your computer? Is there any bluetooth Moto phones coming down the line? I was also looking at the Ericsson T68i for this reason, since I'm a mac user and i believe the Moto sync is Pc only..

thanks.

The T720 syncs with your PC Outlook or Lotus Notes via the True Sync software and cable. No support for Blue tooth yet.

in my opinion att is the best as far as game download goes att already offers awesome games to their customer as to tmobile where they got awesome tzone website but no games.... also i think cingular or the att version have more memory than tmobile..... but CANCEL verizon if uwant t720... their t720 is cdma version and not only their GIN service S U C K S but also u can plug in upgrades or go to websites like w/ tmobile or att...

and lastly i think tmobile has best plans and second att...

Mac OSX iSync only support Bluetooth Ericsson phones at the moment. T68, T520, T39. Only one Moto Bluetooth phone, T270, if you add the Bluetooth module. I'm not sure if the BT module works with anything other than a headset.

Also, the T68 doesn't have the greatest reception. Most phones with internal antennas do worse that phone with stub or external antennas. I had a T68i but exchanged it for a T720 because the reception was so bad. The T720 got better reception, but in my area, not by much.

Mac users on MacOSX, get a USB data cable and attach it to the Mac and T720. Download a copy of zterm from zterm, then use the following script to retrieve info from the t720 phone:

send "at^M"
Wait for quiet 4 seconds
send "at+mode=2^M"
Wait for quiet 4 seconds
send "at+mpbr=1,500^M"
Wait for quiet 4 seconds
send "at+mode=0^M"
Wait for quiet 4 seconds
send "at^M"
Wait for quiet 4 seconds

There are other AT commands to retrieve the DateBook info. The AT commands can be found at:

That is as far as I have gotten this afternoon, but I think that it should not be too hard to move this data into other applications. You should also go to iSync Feedback and ask Apple to add the T720 to the supported devices. -Chuck-

yea, what games does AT&T have? Tetris, or that Motorbike game? Do they come pre-installed or do you have to pay additional for them? t-mobile site has it for $199 with a free camera, is that a good price? Has anyone actually gotten the camera? I thought I read that it wont be out for a number of months.

I feedbacked Apple, lets hope something comes of it. iSync is only a 1.0 release after all.... I just wish Moto had built in bluetooth, then it would probably be easy to hack.

And whats the deal with signal range anyway? Doesn't it rely alot of the tower strength as well? how drastic are we talking about on between the two? I have never had a non antenna phone, and the idea of paying to replace another antenna turns my stomach. My girlfriend has the T720 for verison with a retractable antenna, I saw at the AT&T store they have a nubby antenna, is that universal on the GSM phones?

The T720 is tri-band, but not on the same GSM frequency as in Europe. So you're correct in that even the GSM versions of the T720 offered by AT&T, etc. will not work in Europe. The tri-band modes for Verizon are all CDMA and anolog frequencies by the way.

well that really is a shame. One of the draws of switching to the GSM network was for popularity overseas. It's a shame that they can't agree on a frequency better. Oh well. I guess I'll wait on purchasing a phone until the P800 makes to to america and re-evaluate then.

Thanks for your help!

getting the T720? Don't get verizon, becuase of the Get it Now. and the web access limitations. Make sure the version of the phone provided has J2Me instead of Brew. It'll save you a lot of trouble.
