What makes people think a petition would work? Don't use the service or switch to another provider. Did Verizon ever promise you could use anything besides Get It Now? Verizon understands money. So long as they are making it, they won't change. Did you read what you were agreeing to when you signed your contract? |

Yeah, nobody has ever said anything about loading their own content onto a T720 and everyone constantly complains about Verizon's lockout of personal content. BUT we here happen to have our own secret methods that we've been keeping hidden from the rest of the internet and we're willing to share them with you. NO. Thanks for using my icon, incidentally. |

crood is right get it now makes verizon a killing on the monitary side of things. they wont get rid of it unless "sales drop big time." more than 70% of users would have to stop using it and kill verizons sales.....fat chance !

What on earth is the hangup with "Get It Now"? Is it that you can't put YOUR Brittney Spears photo on the wallpaper? What personal stuff is so critical to put on the phone? And yes, Verizon is (or at least better be) profit-motivated. What do you think is driving all of this R&D anyway, philanthropy? They make a slice of the money you pay for the apps. Where's the problem? The apps deliver value and cost money. Further, they are OPTIONAL. If you do not want them, do not buy them. I still am confused about what the problem is with Get It Now. Educate me. |

Imagine if you got AOL Internet service and AOL would not allow you to use Amazon to purchase a CD player. AOL forced still you to purchase it through their AOL shop. Imagine if you purchased a digital camera, but Sony would only allow you to print your pictures by sending them the files and them charging a premium vs you using your printer. If they could get away with it, they would. Verizon is getting away with it, but if enough people complain to them and the FCC this may open up in the future. (not holding my breath though) Contact Verizon Exec Office |

AOL is offering internet service, not AOL service. If AOL offered AOL service and didn't let you use the internet as a whole, then get rid of AOL service and get internet service. The camera example would be appropriate if Verizon sold you phone service then told you that calling your home, or friends, or voice-mail cost a premium over calling "verizon approved" phone numbers. Just try to play a "non-nintendo-approved" game on your gamecube. Try to buy a discounted phone from Verizon and then use it on Cingular. Try to buy a Tivo and then use ReplayTV programming information on it. The hardware is heavily subsidized by the hope of future revenue from complementary purchases (games, subscriptions, etc.). That is the business model. If you do not like the business model, then go do business with another company. Heck, even better, create your own business model, line up capital then roll out your own venture. If that's too much work, then keep complaining on these boards.

personally i thought his analogies were quite on par with the pathetic policies implimented by verizon. im with ya pal and the majority of verizon users that enjoy utilizing hardware for what it was purchased for agree too.

Here's the thing: Verizon will only respond to what they perceive will affect their future profit. Any effective effort directed at inspiring a change from verizon needs to keep this in mind. They will back off of a closed "Get It Now" only if they perceive that staying the course will cost them money. They will open "Get It Now" if they see that they will make more money. Lots of complaining to verizon helps., but only if it sends a credible message that their closed system is going to cost them future profits, either in direct erosion of subscribership or degradation of their branding efforts through PR problems. All I am saying is try to see it from their perspective. I seriously doubt that verizon executives are inherently evil at their core. I don't know them, so they may be evil, but I doubt it. Come up with a better way to boost profits. Send a credible message that your way is a superior way to proceed. If you do that, then you will see results, fast.

Look, when you buy a car from a dealer, you expect all the options on it to be available for use. Now imagine the dealer makes it so you can't use the A/C, 4th and 5th gear, and your headlites only come on when you pay the dealer a fee. Not too fair. A lot of people like the options available on the T720, but are frustrated that their "dealer" Verizon has put a lock on half the options. Many people got this phone because they wanted to be able to download nifty ringtones and play color games but were unpleasantly surprised to find that this was not possible with Verizon. Ringtones and games help people personalize their phones, just like the wallpaper on your computer, the posters on your walls, the music you play in your cd/mp3 player. Plus the fact that Verizon advertises that you can change the wallpaper, screensaver, etc. (Quote: Personalize your T720 by changing the color palette, wallpaper and screensavers to match your mood - direct from Verizon T720 page) makes me a little miffed. If I'm told my phone will do something by the provider, it better damn well do it! Anyway, 'nuff with the ranting. -cog

You can change your colors and wallpaper on the T720. I don't recall Verizon saying you could download & save images to your phone to match your mood. If I'm not mistaken, I don't the Verizon system can support saving & downloading images in the same manner as GSM users. My suggestion to the whiners is to give up voice quality and switch to a GSM provider that can give let you have put games and ringtones on your phone for free. Ain't life a b!tch!!!

Well my take on this is my main purpose for buying the phone was to be able to make calls, the wallpaper, games, and apps are all extras to me. I could go and buy the AT&T GSM version of the T720, but I would drop calls and be unable to use the phone hardly anywhere. I can imagine it now we break down driving on the highway and I pull out my AT&T T720 to play MotoGP, and my wife says why aren't you calling the tow truck and I say there is no GSM service on Alligator Alley, but you can play MotoGP to pass the time. I hate the lockout as much as anyone, but the phone works it has never dropped a call or given me any problems, so until AT&T gets their GSM service in vast areas of the country I will stick with what I have. Also anyone here if they were in charge of VZW they would do the same thing, I don't know how many businesses managed to stay afloat giving everything away.
