Default Volume button when closed

What is the purpose of the volume button when the phone is closed? I set the phone to vibrate most of the time and when I press either of the arrow keys it just beeps extremely loud and says 'Style: Vibrate' I dont get it, whats the point of beeping loud like that if its on vibrate?? I understand that if I press one of these keys when its ringing it will shut off the ringer, but other than that, what do they do? if you press the voice key it beeps very softly and lights up the screen so you can read it at night, id think thats what the other buttons should do too. any way to change this?

they're there to change the ringer settings when the phone is opened. i guess you could call them useless when it's closed, besides turning the ringer off when someone's calling.

I'm not sure about the T720, but on the v60 the beep volume you mention is controlled by the keypress volume setting. If you turn off (or turn down) the keypress volume, it should stop beeping so loudly. Also, on the v60, the style can be changed by pressing the "Smart Button" while the phone is closed. Again, not sure about the T720.

the key button is soft otherwise. just when I press the vol keys when its closed is it loud... stupid design. why cant mfgs learn from their previous products?? they should just come out with an open source phone, then programmers on the net would make it the best phone ever!
