Default External Antenna required for Motorola Professional hands free kit??

Hi

I Just got around to installing the Motorola Professional install hands free kit for my Verizon 720 phone. I believe this is the same hands free kit for the V60 and other phones, just the cradle that holds the phone is different.

Anyway, once the phone is in the cradle it drops to NO SERVICE within about 15 seconds, if I pop it back out it has a use-able signal. What gives??

Last week when test fitting the phone I "HAD" to remove the rubber plug that covers the external antenna connector on the phone, and I have since lost the damn thing! The phone cradle has a connection for an external antenna, but I do not have an external antenna yet.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Does the 720 fit in the cradle with the rubber plug covering the antenna jack?
Do I need to get an external antenna connected to this kit to get the phone to work?

Thanks for any information, as usual the manuals are useless.

Yes you need an external antenna, I personally use a Terk inside antenna similar to this one http://www.lovecars.com/store/indexcellphone.htm

It doesn't show on the outside and it's a tri-band antenna, so it'll work on the 1800 and 1900 mhz bands besides the 800 and 900 mhz bands.

I'm surprised you did not see the connector when you installed it.

I just installed it last week. I believe you do have to remove that rubber plug before you use it. You can buy an antenna from ebay for about 15 bucks(I bought the Terk internal). seems to be working fine for me.

My problem is that the phone does not click in easily. I have to force it a little. Are you having that problem too?
