Hello, My wife just purchased a v60i (Verizon) and I noticed that it has the extendable antenna. My co-worker has a v60 (AT&T) and his antenna is fixed. My question is this... If I superglue/epoxy my wife's v60i antenna to it's base, will: 1. ...the antenna become less prone to breaking as indicated in these forums and 2. ...reception become a propblem or will it be the same (considering the AT&T v60 is fixed) Thanks for your help... |

Well JackandCoke, i don't think that would be such a good idea..if she is in an area that has less signal strength she might need to pull up her antenna. If you glued it she won't be able to do that..lol...and at&t is a different network it is tdma and verizon is cdma so it's different.

Well, you could try it, but other people who have tried changing it with either the stub or another style antenna say they have had a drop in reception. And they eventually change back to the regular antenna.

My brother in law picked up his V60c several months after I did and broke the Antenna off TWICE. When he went to replace it the second time he went to a cell phone shop in Chinatown here in Manhattan and they installed a V60t style antenna same size as the V60c/i antenna except not extended and it's fixed and can't be extended. The reception actually IMPROVED on his phone but in order to install the antenna the store's technican had to open up the phone and do some soldering. I just sold my V60c on Ebay but if I still had it and the Antenna broke I'd definitely look into getting a similar modification made. I'm actually thinking about swinging by the place and asking them if they can replace my T720 antenna to improve the reception cause I now get No Service in places where I'd get 3 bars or more on my V60c.

Forgot to mention that I wouldn't recommend super gluing/epoxying the current antenna, like lilprincess said, you might need to extend it to get a better signal, unlike my experience with the original digital StarTAC extending the V60's antenna actually helps. I have had my VRZ V60i phone for several months now. I have tried replacing the antenna with several aftermarket products, some cheap and some not so cheap. Although they may have looked better, all either lost reception, or kept the reception level at the same strength as with the original antenna in the down position. That being said, the original antenna when extended will almost always increase the signal strength by two bars. Although you almost never have to extend the antenna to get reception, it's good to know that you can improve reception if you ever need too

One more thing to consider - if you glue the antenna, you won't be able get it off if you have to. You have to extend the antenna to remove it.

| http://www.v60antenna.com has original antennas and kits to change the back housings and antennas from retractable to nonretractable and vice versa. However, we do need to solder the internals for better reception. The original antennas are only $10 each. |
