Default T720 Composer - Post your ringtones here

After much hair-pulling, I think I've got the T720 composer figured out in a way that makes sense to me. Motorola's website, the manual that came with my phone, and the built-in phone help all said something different, and they were all wrong. *grin* As I've figured it out, the note structure is as follows:

* + octave + (flat/sharp) + note + duration + (rest)
 • The asterisk should be at the beginning of each new note. This seems to be rather important at times, so I recommend it.
 • Octaves are 0, 1, and 2 (3 - 5 seem to work, but are identical to 0 - 2). 0 is low, 2 is high. To be safe, I've been using octaves on each note, but I don't ~think~ it's necessary. Remember that octaves begin at C.
 • Flat is a &, and sharp is a # (both are under the 0 key). This is optional.
 • Notes, of course, are A - G (no need to try and capitalize).
 • Duration is 0 - 5. Think of 0 as a whole note, 1 as half-note, 2 as quarter-note, and so on.
 • Rests are placed at the end of the note you're resting after. Rests are an r (found under the 7 key), followed by the duration (just as described above). These are also optional.
Example1 - quarter-note B-flat is: *1&b2
Example2 - a quarter-note F followed by a half-note G is: *1f2*1g1
Example3 - whole-note A, half-note rest, whole-note B is: *1a0r1*1b0

I haven't quite figured out how to make the ;, :, and . keys function effectively as note shorten/lengtheners, so I didn't mention them here.

I'm using a T720 with 17p s/w. I'm hopefully upgrading to 19c/d/whatever tonight. I'm hoping this works the same...

Enjoy, and share your creations for the T720 under this thread.

SNES's Donkey Kong melody - (chunked for readablility)

*1d3*1d3*1a2r3*1f3*1g3*1f3*1d2r2
*1d3*1d3*1&b2r3*1g3*1a3*1g3*1e2r2
*1e3*1e3*2c2r3*1a3*1&b3*2c3*2d2r2
*1f3*1g3*1a2r3*1e3*1f3*1g3*1f2

I composed it directly onto my phone while looking at the MIDI version, so I know it to work. I don't have Ringtone Converter, so I can't translate into keypresses, though if someone would like to post the keypress version, feel free.

it easier to input the tones if you use a program like "coding workshop". it'll tell you what numbers to push if you find the rtttl code on the internet somewhere.

*grin* I figured something out that would have made entering Donkey Kong a little easier... since 1 is the default octave, it doesn't need to be specified... and * only has to be used when specifying octave. An easier version of Donkey Kong would be:

d3 d3 a2r3 f3 g3 f3 d2r2
d3 d3 &b2r3 g3 a3 g3 e2r2
e3 e3 *2c2r3 a3 &b3 *2c3 *2d2r2
f3 g3 a2r3 e3 f3 g3 f2

The spaces were added simply for readability... you don't need them (which is good, cause they're impossible).
I've created two more so far tonight. They are:

1. The very easy (and very short) X-Files theme (I plan to use it for incoming messages or something) -

*1&b2 *2f2 *2&e2 *2f2 *2&e2 *2f2

2. This one is pretty derned complicated... It's intended to sound like like the background piano in Dave Mathew's "Two Step". I had to chart this one out on paper beforehand to make it come out right. *grin* I got as close as I could, but there's chords upon chords in that thing, and we're limited to one note at a time. Regardless, it has an interesting sound to it. Here she be:

*2d4 d4 a4 d4 *2f4 d4 a4 d4
*2e4 d4 a4 d4 *2d4 d4 a4 d4
*2e4 d4 a4 d4 *2f4 d4 a4 d4
*2e4 d4 a4 d4 *2d4 d4 a4 d4

I'd be grateful to anyone with Ringtone Converter who could translate those into keystrokes for the masses.

does anyone have some normal ring tone chords? I sometimes like a unique ring tone, not some song, you know?

Default T720 Composer - Post your ringtones here

My latest excursion into the t720's composer has produced.... the intro to Dave Mathew's "Sattelite."

The song has a very beautiful sound, in my opinion, and its simplicity translates nicely into a ringtone. I translated the first ten or so seconds (which is the entire first riff including the pause at the end, if you're familiar with the song). It is:

*0#g3 #e3 &b3 #c3 #g3 c3 g3 *0&b3
f3 #c3 g3 c3 *0g3 &e3 &b3 #c3
#g3 c3 g3 *0&b3 f3 #c3 g3 c3
*0#g3 &e3 &b3 #c3 #g3 c3 g3 *0&b3
f3 #c3 #g3 c3 *0#g3 &e3 &b3 #c3
#g3 c3 g3r3r1

At least, I'm pretty sure. The problem is, I wrote it directly in the composer, and so I had to copy it from there to here, which isn't the easiest thing in the world.

Also, I worked a bit on a Perl script last night that translates from the T720 codes (such as the ones above... NOT the rtttl codes!) into keypresses. According to the script, which I'm still testing, the keypresses for "Sattelite" are:

00 # 0 # 000 4 3333 000 33 # 3333 0000 22 3333 000 222 3333 000 4 3333
222 3333 4 3333 00 # 0 # 0000 22 3333 333 # 3333 000 222 3333 4 3333
222 3333 00 # 0 4 3333 0000 33 # 3333 0000 22 3333 000 222 3333 000 4 3333
222 3333 4 3333 00 # 0 # 0000 22 3333 333 # 3333 000 222 3333 4 3333 222
3333 00 # 0 # 000 4 3333 0000 33 # 3333 0000 22 3333 000 222 3333 000 4
3333 222 3333 4 3333 00 # 0 # 0000 22 3333 333 # 3333 000 222 3333 000 4
3333 222 3333 00 # 0 # 000 4 3333 0000 33 # 3333 0000 22 3333 000 222 3333
000 4 3333 222 3333 4 3333 7 3333 7 1

Remember, when using codes such as the one directly above, the idea is to press the keys listed, NOT to make the screen show the keys listed. Example: 000 4 3333 means press the 0 key three times quickly, then the 4 key once, then the 3 key four times. This will produce #e3 (an eighth-note E-sharp). The # key means hit the # key once, which moves your cursor to the right. Pausing for a second or so would do the same thing.

As far as normal rings go... in my opinion, those are harder to do and make sound right at the same time. Here's my first attempt at a "normal" sounding (ie, attention-getting) ring, which I've entitled "British HQ" because I think it sounds a bit like the British Intelligence ring in Austin Powers. *grin*

*0d4 *0e4 a3 *0d4 *0e4 a3
*0e4 *0d4 g3 *0d4 *0e4 a3

Translated into keystrokes, this is:

00 # 0 3 44 00 # 0 33 44 2 3333
00 # 0 3 44 00 # 0 33 44 2 3333
00 # 0 33 44 00 # 0 3 44 4 3333
00 # 0 3 44 00 # 0 33 44 2 3333

Enjoy...
Oh, and if you'd like to try out the t720->keypresses converter, it's at: http://www.rootarcana.com/t720.html . Remember, though, it's only a start.

Because I never sleep (and because I'm the only one contributing ringtones *grin*), I give you Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train":

#f3 #f3 *2#c3 #f3 *2d3 #f3 *2#c3 #f3
b3 a3 #g3 a3 b3 a3 #g3 e3

Translated, this becomes:

000 333 # 3333 000 333 # 3333 00 2222 000 222 3333 000 333 # 3333
00 2222 3 # 3333 000 333 # 3333 00 2222 000 222 3333 000 333 # 3333
22 3333 2 3333 000 4 3333 2 3333 22 3333 2 3333 000 4 3333 33 # 3333

I was most of the way through a rendition of "Californication" for you all, when I discovered a nice bug in the 17p software: I played the song to listen to it, and when I canceled the play to get out of it, it inserted "Californication" at the end of my "Forgot About Dre" work-in-progress file! I had to exit to fix it, and I hadn't saved "Californication" yet. *sigh*

On a side note, has anyone figured out how to make the . ; and : symbols do anything in composer? Also, has anyone figured out why we have the V, +, -, ), and ( keys in there? I keep hoping to figure out a way to change the tempo like those silly Nokia people can. Oh, by the way: the T720 has a default tempo of 120, so songs with a faster tempo sound slow, and slower tempos sound fast.

Donkey Kong Keypresses:

3 # 3333 3 # 3333 2 # 2222 7 3333 333 # 3333 4 3333 333 # 3333
3 2222 7 2222 3 # 3333 3 # 3333 0000 22 # 2222 7 3333 4 3333
2 3333 4 3333 33 2222 7 2222 33 # 3333 33 # 3333 00 2222 # 222 # 2222
7 3333 2 3333 0000 22 3333 00 2222 # 222 3333 00 2222 3 2222
7 2222 333 # 3333 4 3333 2 # 2222 7 3333 33 # 3333 333 # 3333 4 3333 333 2222

X-Files Keypresses:

2222 00 2222 333 2222 00 2222 0000 33 2222 00 2222 333 2222

-----------------

"Two Step" (or something like it) Keypresses:

00 2222 3 44 3 44 2 44 3 44 00 2222 333 44 3 44 2 44 3
44 00 2222 33 44 3 44 2 44 3 44 00 2222 3 44 3 44 2 44 3
44 00 2222 33 44 3 44 2 44 3 44 00 2222 333 44 3 44 2 44 3
44 00 2222 33 44 3 44 2 44 3 44 00 2222 3 44 3 44 2 44 3 44

"Sattelite" (listed above) is by far my favorite thus far, though. Josy, if you like DMB, I definately recommend it.

Enjoy.

A quickie for all you OG's out there:

"Ain't Nuthin But a G Thang"-

b3 a3 b3 *2#c3 b3 a2 g3 #f2 e3 #f1r3

Translated, it is:

22 3333 2 3333 22 3333 00 2222 000 222 3333 22 3333 2 #
2222 4 3333 000 333 2222 33 # 3333 000 333 1 7 3333

I got about halfway through an acceptable version of "No Scrubs," but my phone was stuck in analog-land, and the battery was dead after just a few hours. Entering ringtones (especially over and over and over again as you're writing them) uses a lot of keystrokes / battery power. *smile*

you can find the coding workshop crack on the internet. just do a search for it. the t720 is not listed in the cracked version (because it is a new model), but you can use the instructions for the v120c. it seems to work the same. i've been able to find just about any ringtone i wanted by searching for the song title and putting "rtttl" next to it on google or yahoo.

Unfortunately, we can't program polyphonic tones. Which I think is ridiculous, and I hope is fixed by a later s/w release from Motorola. Why offer a polyphonatic phone if users can't create polyphonatic rings? If they don't want to build the composer into the phone, then they should at least make a data cable that uploads polyphonatic rings.

Just my 1/50th of a dollar, anyways.

To find out your s/w version:

Menu -> Settings -> Phone Status -> Other Information -> S/W Version

You can't download these. You have to go to your local Verizon store and have it flash-upgraded. At least, in theory. I've had less-than-excellent response from my local Verizon store. They lie to me.

Also, what's the best way that you've found for inputting these? Do you try to glance between the computer and the phone or do you have someone read them while you press the buttons? Or maybe you've just memorized the keypad?

stickyboy - I've mostly just memorized the keypad, but I find myself having to glance down at it frequently regardless, since the buttons are hardly raised out of the surrounding plastic whatsoever. Makes it tough to type by feel. I also usually copy them out of this window and into a notepad window, so I can play with the layout until it's easier on my eyes.

No new ringtones for me, yet - I'm going to wait until I'm at 19c or higher before I bother to figure out any more. Assuming I ever get 19c+.
