Hi all,

As in the subject Im in Australia, and have recently purchased a T720. My software version says T720_6_05.08.11R. How does this compare to the US versions I keep reading about on here?

We aussies get GSM, and as a result our phones aren't buggy like the CDMA ones. Our batteriesicon last heaps longer, etc. etc. As a result, no updates or "software versions" are necessary, as there aren't any issues to address

Mike,

I see that in the other thread about downloading ringtones you are having the exact same problems as myself. Have you had any breakthrough into the problem. I'm on the optus network through B, and had to go through a whole heap of crap to get the GPRS settings for my phone (and I still suspect they aren't correct). I've had the problem trying to download through mobileme. I see however that you have had some luck with games. Where were these downloaded from?

But the GSM T720s lost 400 slots in the phone book (100 v 500), a bunch of memory for storing all the things that you can download, and voice dial ( I think.). I'll put up with a few bugs and an occasional software update.

I still have 500 phone book entries, and also voice dial
We can download WHATEVER we want, not some crappy Get it Now games. We get better reception, better batteryicon time, etc. etc. etc.
When I read this forum and hearing everyone bag out the T720, I wonder where the CDMA version went wrong. My phone has none of the problems you guys describe, and there's no downside to GSM! Go Australia!

Yeah I'm also going through Optus using GPRS... Their homepage isn't working for me anymore, and I suspect it'll take some time before it gets going. As I said before, I haven't been able to download ringtones or pics from anywhere, but Games and other applications are from here:

http://t720.mymobilesoft.com - go there on your WAP
http://www.mymobilesoft.com/motltd/t...m#screensavers - go there on your PC to check out some pictures of the games

Hope I could help - Mike

Thanks Mike....which of the games/apps would you recommend?
I've contacted motorola about the downloading issues I've had and they will getting back to me (so they said!). May be caused by a download restriction on the optus gateway (i.e. nothing bigger than a certain size can be downloaded). Wouldn't surprise me since Optus don't stock the phone yet, so why would they care about supporting it.

Exactly right - hopefully it won't take too long for them to get their acts together and sort it all out - but if you can get back to me with their reply, I'd be very thankful.
out of the games, I'd recommend: Pacific Storm, MotoGP, Tetris, Electric, Defender, Babyboom is funny (leading a sperm around).
Have fun!

it went wrong because it came out 1.5 months before the gsm version and product testing had not been completed at the time. It's a fine phone, the software was the only true problem. As far as gsm getting better reception?? that's bs. Does australia even have cdma?? How would you be able to compare the assume that gsm has better reception? The U.S. has both and it is a well known fact that cdma technology has slightly better voice quality that gsm technology.

Look - just because we aren't country yokels doesn't mean we don't have CDMA - in MY personal experience, comparing 2 identical phones, one with CDMA service and one with GSM, GSM has much better voice quality. The fact is that 95% of the population has GSM phones, and obviously a lot more effort has gone into it than with CDMA, at least here.
