Default V260 rebranded V262

According to motonext it's now called the V262. Any thoughts why. Seems like a waste of time to me.Motonext V262

It's a real low end Motorola- no fancy bells and whistles.

I'm also leaning towards the tendency that it is a waste. Most people look for a camera on the phone even though they rarely use it. Others want BT, MP3, MMC slot... even if they'll be amused with it for the first month and never touch it again.

However, it is a reality that more and more places are banning camera phones. The v260 is probably a good idea for people who need a basic phone without a camera. Most people could care less about BT/MP3 playing ability/MMC slots, etc. It's only a big deal to "hard core" power users.

Also, I don't know that I'd say it has NO bells & whistles...it shares several things with the V710 - speakerphone, user-independent voice dial, WAP 2.0. It may well be capable of playing MP3 ringers too, but since VZW hasn't been advertising or supporting that for V710 yet, maybe Moto left it off the spec page?

This is a good entry/mid-level phone, filling the void left by the disappearance of the v60i.

I think I was unclear. I meant the name change was a waste of time. Just wondering if anyone has any idea why they went from V260 to V262? Personally, I like the phone and I can't take a camera to work or a courthouse anyway. Might be my next upgrade. Although, its not as nice as your phone, Twopiece, even if it's purple.

The name was not changed. The V260 is for Verizon and will be "T720 silver" in color and plastic. The V262 will have the "V300 like" soft outside shell in blue. Other than the exterior both phones are identical.

All three V26x series phones are based on the V710 software. Much like how the V300, V400, and V500 are all really a V600 with different options enabled. Any slight improvements you may notice in the V26x software will be rolled into the V710 update patch.

Hmmm... a T720 rebranded in color and plastic? Will that be a good thing?

He means that the V260 will be the same silver color as the T720. Not that it will BE the T720.

Verizon V265 and V260 is finishing up testing this week. The phone will be approved this month. That doesn't mean Verizon will launch right away.

Thanks for the update! My contract is up on the 15th and the 262/265 looks like it may be my next phone. If it's approved this month it will probably be available for the holidays.
