Default Motorola Recalls v60 Full Install Car Kits

I bought a v60 car kit several months ago, and it works reasonably well. I went to buy one for my dad, and was told by 7 vendors around the country that Motorola had recalled all of them. None to be found.

I then called Motorola directly, and they confirmed the recall. They are working on a software upgrade for the v60, including the new "I", as well as certain parts of the kit itself. This recall was ordered during the last week of July, and as of today there is no re-release date. They hope sometime in September, but nothing is official. Something about the microphone, but they have no idea if it's the mic, the box, the phone's software, etc. We'll wait and see.....

The funny thing is, my local Verizon Wireless store heard nothing of the recall, the manager was dismissive when I told him, and the store is still selling the kits.

Here's a question for ANYONE who already has a v60 kit installed:

Does the part that attaches the hang-up-cup to the dash/profit/etc have a hinged middle joint that makes it possible to tilt the cradle up and down for easy viewing angles? My kit came with it. The newer one I just got from Verizon has a flat, single mount, that allows NO up/down pivot. How is the display visible at all from the driver's angle?

Any comments would be most welcome. The Motorola rep said she would call me when she got more information about the recall and any solutions

Tino,

They are full duplex, and actually do a better job at it than the StarTac did.

The v60 kits have been authorized for re-release. Supposedly, a new microphone is now included.

My second one is on its way!

FYI - I've had the kit installed with my V60c, and it worked great. Unfortunately, my phone was stolen, and replaced with a V60i. Now everything works, with the exception of the microphone...the sound quality is terrible. Several calls into Motorola as late as today have indicated the kits are still on hold, and they are working on a retrofit (either the mic itself or the control box)....

You are correct. Motorola has again put all v.series kits on hold. The entire thing is being re-designed, and will supposedly ship in 2-3 weeks. There will be some sort of part replacement program available to all current kit owners.

The current kit is single duplex. TERRIBLE!! The new one will be dramatically better I am told. Half- or full- duplex I'm not sure. A new box, probably. A new cradle, I believe so.

I'll keep you all posted!

Default Motorola Recalls v60 Full Install Car Kits

I bought a very nice Mercedes in April with the New "Mercedes Benz" V60c phone to beat all phones. Super integrated and all that. Total cost ($2500) but I expect that with Mercedes.

It's a brilliant phone, fully integrated with the car but HERE IS THE CATCH and THIS IS WHY THERE IS A RECALL and REDISIGN....

In the car kit it is only Half Duplex. (this means if the other party has background noise, a TV on low, hums and/or talks, your voice in the car cannot be heard by the other partyl.

Motorola and Mercedes knew about this at release time but did NOT tell the public. they are now totally embarressed. Mercedes and Motorola have agreed a full upgrade for me once the "NEW" thing comes out but I haven't heard when it's due it. The reason is that with Half Duplex, this is total crap and 5+ year old technology verses full duplex. Mercedes are blaming Motorola and I think that's fair as it applies apparently to any motorla in-car kit for the v60c.

I have no other complaints about the phone or the car. My complaint is that a $10 earpiece plugged into the headphone connection is FULL duplex but my $2000 in car-kit is NOT........

Watch this space and complain. It is a bug and a design flaw and everyone who bought a phone and car kit with this problem is entitled to a full refund / replacement - in my view. That is of course *WHEN* there is a fix !!!!!

Frank

Spoke to Motorola. Go to Verizon or whomever for the upgrade which makes the car kit work full duplex. <yipee>.

This is the number I called if you really want to confirm :-

"Allow for me to refer you to contact our techincal support team that is handling carkit issues specifically for these phones. They can be contacted at 1-866-668-4222 - ext 1830. I am hopeful that they will be able to assist you and explore options that will resolve your issue. They are available Monday through Friday - 7am-7pm, CST."

It doesn't work for OEM phones (like Mercedes V60c version) but they are working on it and will call me back. I'll keep you posted,

-F-

I have the same problems... I purchased the v60c in March 2002 and the professional car kit. I've got about $500 into the whole system and frankly, it sucks. The phone alone is great, it's the combo of the kit and phone that suck. The half duplex makes it useless! Verizon was pretty good to me and gave me a free upgrade to the V60i. (something I didn't expect). Motorola assured me that would fix the problem... They were wrong! It is still half duplex!! They are now telling me it is a phone flash software version problem... Motorola says get the newest flash to fix the problem, Verizon tells me I have the newest software! It is amazing to me that nobody seems to know for sure how to fix the problem!

Spoke to Brian Watkins at Motorola (1-847 496 2544).

Motorola now tell me that the v60c for the Mercedes will NOT be fixed. In fact they say it's not even a problem. They say Mercedes ordered it like that!!!! Rubbish, they fixed it for everything else and ten try to tell me it's not a problem - Der.. Do they think I'm stupid.

I am told that the v60i for the Mercedes will be out around January and WILL BE FULL DUPLEX. No dates, no commitments <agh!!>

I am annoyed at Mercedes for selling me this piece of JUNK and having to wait nearly a year a fix it. With no guarantee it will at that.

Call this guy at Motorola and tell him how pissed you are too. PLEASE.

F

V60 Professional Hands-Free Car Kit

Looks like Motorola's selling it again. All the part numbers look the same as the old kit... will try call them this afternoon to see what's changed.

I just sent my old kit back on a return authorization...the new kit should arrive next week. It sounds like every part has a redesign - the cradle now has a release button (instead of the spring-loaded design), the microphone is new, and the control box is the same part number, with a B suffix. FYI - it sounds like they only have stock on the full-kit replacement - they couldn't send me just a control box (I had the A model). The number to call is the same as referenced earlier in this message string 866-688-4222 x1830 - good luck!

It's not the hands free unit! It's the phone!

I know it's hard to believe but I've had the same problem: here's the story. I bought the phone and hands free kit in March. Had tons of problems (just like everyone else here!) when using the hands free. I bi-ched at Motorola (a whole lot of fun since I used to work for them) and they sent me a new rev B box, It still didn't fix the problem. Finally I took it in to bi-ch and scream at Cingular, and one of the techs reprogramed my phone. He told me it was a problem with the Half/Full duplex mode etc. etc. I'm not sure what he did to the phone but it worked great!

Now for the rest of the story.
A couple of days ago I broke the phone and took it in for a replacement, sure enough, I had the same problem with the new phone. So, I took it in again and had the same tech fix it (by the way the tech's name is Jesus, how inonic). I asked him what he did to it and basicly found out he had to go to program mode #PROGRAM# and make some changes. He didn't tell me exactly what he did, but again it works great!

I do know that both times he fixed the phone that the software version changed. My old phone changed to (if my memory serves me correctly) 16.0e.?? and my new phone went from 26.??.?? to 24.26.00 Hope this helps everyone, and if anyone else has any info on what he may have done, I'd be interested to know.

Got my phone to finally work well. The answer I believe is in the new cradle. If you don't have the cradle with the "pop out button" on the side and have the spring loaded one then thats not the new one. I did speak with the dealer in florida who reprogramed the phone as above, but this is only good for cingulair customers. It was difficult and only to be done by a technician. My phone now works 200% better with the new cradle.

I would call motorola and run the part numbers of your mic/cradle/module etc. I now have the new cradle (button pop out on the side), new mic. the full duplex module 9137B and everything appears to be working much much better. I also have the latest software on the phone. call motorola the number is on this chat. they are very helpful and verizon was very easy to work with here in syracuse.
