Default Motorola Timeport 8767 Problem

Anybody encounter this before?

2 days ago, my dad's phone worked perfectly. Today it cannot get a signal. Usually after the phone is powered on there are two beeps and then the signal bars light up but not in this case. No beeps and it keeps searching for a signal. My V60i is fine.

Anything else I can try before taking it to the Verizon store?

TIA

With the phone powered off, remove the battery for a minute and then reinstall it. I've seen a few goofy problems clear up after doing that. If that doesn't fix it, you're going to have to have the phone repaired or replaced.

Verify that the antenna is screwed in all the way. Get a fairly thin flathead screwdriver and try tightening the antenna. If you look down at the antenna base, you'll see the notches where you can get the screwdriver in.

Default Motorola Timeport 8767 Problem

Thanks for the suggestions but they didn't work.

When I powered up the phone at the Verizon store, it picked up a digital signal immediately. The tech updated the PRL. But when I got home, it went back to analog and 2 messages came up: No Digital Service and Activation Req'd.

I find it hard to believe that my apartment is a dead zone when my V60i has no problems. That night, when I went out it picked up a digital signal 5 blocks away. I'm hoping that this is temporary.

I guess it could be a malfunctioning tower, but I agree, it's strange. I'd give the VZW techs a call and at least put a ticket in.

Maybe the connection between the external and internal antenna is toast. The Timeports have ability to get great signal due to their "Wireless In-Building Services" but if the connection between the external and the internal is broken this may create problems. I love my Timeport P8090 and will be sad when it dies. I think it may be time for your father to get a new handset... sometimes, you've just got to let those hard to reach chips go, my friend.

Thanks rancid,

I will take it to a tech and have them look at the antenna. It's the weirdest thing. While I was playing with it last night, it picked up a digital signal one block from the apartment. I kept it on and brought it back home- no problem, still holding the signal. When I powered off and then on- Searching...

Never seen anything like it. And it only started happening last friday.

Hmmm, that's really weird. I don't know what would cause that. Hopefully it can be fixed but if not, you can find Timeports relatively cheap on eBay or other such auction sites and since you have Verizon, it's a lot easier then trying to find one for CellluarONE because so many people have Verizon. Good luck.

Default Motorola Timeport 8767 Problem

Phone works now, even in the apartment.

A tech at a different verizon store suggested using *18 when I get close to my apartment. He told me that this picks up the closest cell tower. Did it and tested by turning off the phone and then back on, this time it held the signal.

Can't be positive if this was the actual solution or if the original problem corrected itself. Either way, my dad's timeport has new life again.
