Default Replace T730 w/ V60s?

I have had Verizon service for almost a year and really like Verizon's system but have had bad luck with phones. I originally had an LG 4400 but after having problems with 4 different defective units, Verizon's customer service told me I could choose another phone. After some research, I chose the Motorola T730. I am now on my 3rd phone and it is having charging problems and I need to exchange it. My question is, might I be better off seeing if they will let me trade for a Motorola V60s? Basically, I just want a good, reliable phone which gets good reception and has good voice quality. The T730 has fit that bill aside from the reliable part (and the earpiece volume can be a little low when used with much background noise). I had a Nokia 8260 with Cingular for 2 years and never had a complaint or problem with the phone the whole time. That is what I'm looking for here - I don't need a color screen, I don't need Get it Now, I don't need high speed data, etc. I just want a reliable phone with good reception and voice quality. The speaker phone on the V60s would be a good bonus, but I don't "need" that either - especially if it becomes a liability in terms of phone reliability. Based on my situation, do you think I should try to switch to the V60s? Should I just get a new T730 because I have just been unlucky with mine? Should I look at some other Verizon phone (I need a small flip phone with analog capabilities)?

Sorry for the length of this post, but I would appreciate any advice.

Default Replace T730 w/ V60s?

What kind of charging problems are you having with your t730? Wall charger or car cord problems or both? I ask because I recently ran into a guy who had 2 V120s phones that he also had charging problems with. Turns out that the car cord was the cause for the problems due to the plug being improperly molded at the factory. Everytime he fit it to the phone it was slowly destroying the plastic around the pins. This is due to Verizon selling cheapy aftermarket cords instead of proper Motorola manufactured accessories. After a few weeks of his car cord slowly screwing up his connector, he also began having problems using the Motorola wall charger due to the plastic around the pins being so chewed up. he had to fight with Verizon to get them to replace his phones as naturally they blamed it on him not knowing how to fit the plug. At the end of the day Verizon is foolish for not supplying factory approved accessories. It puts them on the hook for problems like this.....

Even my wife's V60c had some car cord charging issues last year (always had to wiggle car cord to make it connect). Hers was also a store bought junky aftermarket cord and when I eplaced it with a Motorola cord the problems went away.

I now only use Motorola accessories and never have a problem.

BTW, the connector on the bottom of the phone is the same on all current Mot phones so if your issue is connection related you'll have the same issue with the V60s.

I like my V60s just fine. No problems here.

Default Replace T730 w/ V60s?

I am having the same problem with this T730 as with my last 2. I use only a Motorola brand charger. My wife has a V120 and I have the same problem with her Moto car and home charger. Often times when I plug the phone in, it says "unable to charge". I have to keep trying and often times the only way I can get it to charge at all is to leave it turned on all night (it won't charge at all when turned off - if I plug it in when it's off, it just turns the phone on and says "unable to charge"). Also, sometimes in the morning after it's been "charging" all night, it still says "charging" rather than "charging complete". The phone will then die on me as if it hasn't been charged at all. My wife's V120 works fine on my charger and doesn't have any charging problems. When I got my second replacement, they told me that when I got the first replacement carrying over my phone book carried over the software problem. So they didn't carry over the phone book and I had to manually enter the numbers. The phone worked fine for a month or so and now does the same thing that the other two did.

have you cleaned the pins on the battery and inside the phone? Maybe your battery is not connecting properly to the pins inside. Use a soft pencil eraser to clean both the battery and the small pins. Be careful with the pins so you don't bend them. Are your batteries Motorola originals?

Take a close look at the connector on the bottom of the phone. Are the pins shiny gold or do they look oxidized?

My recommendation is to call Motorola's customer service center to dicuss this issue with them. I've never heard of anything like that before. Frankly I've never seen any of my Mot phones show "unable to charge" on screen. Mot can be reached at 800-331-6456.

Default Replace T730 w/ V60s?

I just looked at my battery (original Moto battery). It is completely clean as are the contacts and the pins in the phone. The contacts for the charger are completely clean and shiny as well. Maybe I will call Motorola to see if they know what is going on before I take it back to Verizon. Am I the only one who has had so many problems with the T730?

Maybe you should start a new thread called "T730 charging problems? " You can also check the Verizon Wireless newsgroup on the net.

had the same charging problem with my v60i, got it swapped with a new one no more problems, even when i use a Sanyo aftermarket charger for my v60i.

Default Replace T730 w/ V60s?

Well, I called Motorola and they just gave me the number of the nearest service center (which only services Nextel phones and wouldn't help me at all) rather than helping me. Then I decided to call a nearby Verizon store which tends to have more knowledgeable service techincians. The guy I spoke to told me that he hadn't heard of this problem with the T730, but he has seen tons of V120 and T720 phones and some V60 phones with this problem. He says it is a software issue that he thought was taken care of with the T730. He said all Verizon can do is give me another refurbished T730 so he suggested calling Motorola. So I called them back and told them the service center wouldn't help me. They still wouldn't do anything over the phone aside from giving me another service center number. I called them and was on hold forever before I hung up. So anyway, it sounds like Verizon won't do anything for me and I need to just get a T730 that works. Am I just that unlucky? My wife has had a V120 for almost a year and she has no problems. Verizon says they aren't aware of these phones having charging problems yet I have had 3 phones in a row that have ended up developing the same problem. I'm not sure what to do aside from continuing to replace my phone through the Verizon store (and I will definitely purchase the monthly extended warranty since mine is up in a little over a month).

Edit: I have changed the title of this thread to T730 charging problems as advised since it has evolved into just that.
