I just got back from getting my v120e's software updated, and now I have 8300_01.41.00. I used to have 8300_01.37.00. What are the improvements made in this software version? I also noticed that my ringtones which I entered, ALL OF THEM, are considerably lower in tone...any clue as to why that is? --J.T |

How does one get a software update? The only Verizon wireless store near me is a large kiosk described as "sales only" on the VZW website. Would I actually have to go into an "actual" Verizon wireless store to get an update?

CutiePie: Yes, you would have to go into a full retail store with a technician with the knowledge, software, cables, and skill ;-) to update your phone's software. To answer your question, yes, it has to be a full retail store with a technician. --J.T |

Give the good people at customer care a call *611 They will gladly tell you what the improvements are! How do I know? Because I enquired about the A310's newest software and the rep gladly told me what the changes were!

Worth a shot, but speaking from personal experience, most CS reps don't know the first thing about anything technical with your phone, and certainly won't even know where to look for the info regarding the new software. Normally, that's where I'd come in. They'd call me, and I'd show them where to find their answer. But I'm still not there

Ceno, I agree. I don't call *611 because usually, anything technical at all, unless it's with the network or calling plans, they have no clue. Like you said, especially with new software versions on phones. --J.T |

Yeah, my own boss, who used to supervise a CS team, doesn't even know where to look for the updates on software. Pretty sad, indeed.

I tried to get the 8300_1.41.00 software update yesterday, but the VZW store near me (Succasunna NJ) did not have it yet. The tech there said that they did not get it yet because it was still being tested. From reading here, it sounds like the tech in that store was either not in the know or simply too lazy to do it... I am curious about the improvements in this version, too - and if it is worth the upgrade. I currently have 8300_1.37.03 on my V120e, which I got last December... Incidentally, there is a PRL Update (50085) out there... |
