You know I tried that and it didn't work. I ended up using P2K Advanced Menu Editor. I actually forgot I had it.

I don't know I must be dumb. The MExplorer was the only thing that even installed without locking up or crashing, but it just says my phone isn't connected, which the Slvr is connect to the USB port, it shows on my comptuer it is the M driev.

MExplorer? I've never heard of it. I do know with the other Motorola software that the drivers are very tricky to get right on a Win xp system w/ sp2.

There was Mexplorer.exe listed on page three right around the AOL.zip, I updated the drivers and both the Mexplorer and the MotoKit said the phone wasn't connect, and the phoen was plugged into the USB port. I just don't knwo where to install the AOL files to. I have like fifty folders and none of them are any programs.

Honestly I don't know anything about the CDMA models. I have GSM phones myself. Version 3.11 was released long before the CDMA models of the V3, so I would guess that it may not be compatible. I use 3.11 with my GSM V3 with no problems.

I just added many of the new hacks from the gain table and it rocks. It is nice that you can finally boost the volume of your bluetooth headsets, and I increased the gain on all of the mic settings too.

I tried a different program to make the changes this time. I used MotoKit v1.06. I liked the hex editing features and think I have a new program to do seem edits and such instead of using a separate hex editor as I did before. Motomodders has MotoKit available for download, and how to change the program's text from chinese to english is also available there.

I also solved my problem of my phone being homed on the Orange network, and the blue network has better coverage at my house. I seem edited the trusty V551 to make it a triband phone, eliminating 850. I know this seems to be a step backwards, but since Orange towers are 850, and blue towers are 1900 in my area this has turned out to be the easiest way to keep my phone on the blue network. I was using the cell sticker, but I found that I would forget it was on and if I traveled far from where I set the sticker I'd loose signal, and the phone still wouldn't look for a new tower. If I travel out of the area, or once integration happens I'll add 850 back and make it a quadband phone once again.

I'm attaching a copy of the new SEEM map for reference. There also are hacks listed there for the V3 as well. Thank You XLR8 for posting this updated list so we can get more enjoyment out of our Motorola phones.

Will any of this information work on an E1 rocker? I'm trying to get rid of all the cingular junk and just wanted to see what others thought before I turn my phone into a paperweight.

Most, if not all of the mods will work on the E1 ROKR as long as you have the most recent versions of the modding software installed on your computer. De-branding is a realtively simple task once you get in there.

Sorry, we don't unlock phones in this forum. You will have to visit the advertisers section and privately contact a dealer there, or your local dealer to get the phone unlocked.

If it is not the most recent version it won't be able to read the file system on your phone. If it can't recognize your phone then you need to update your software.

Ok I tried doing what step 4 says on your first post and followed everything to the T, and all I get is flash failed. Instead of showing E1 rocker in the status it shows E790 itunes. Could this be why it's not following through, is there somewhere with newer drivers that can fix this. My phone still works after I power cycle it. What to do?

I'm not quite sure, as I don't personally have that model. I am not sure what it is supposed to recognize as in the software. You may have to use a utility like MotoKit to change the model name.

Arrow Re: Jay's reference base for modding Motorola phones

Well folks, the Motorola V551 I bought dirt cheap on Ebay last week came in and I was just going to use it as a casual use phone, but it bothered me that it had the original first release Cingular software on it. I found an even newer release than Cingular had last released. I installed R472_G_08.18.55R. This was released by Rogers in Canada and supposedly has improvements for RF in weak areas (I already thought it was a great phone RF-wise.) The last version released by Cingular was the 40R. I also installed MotoModder's latest V551 flex as well. So far I like it a lot, and is a vast improvement over their original custom V551 flex that I have on my other V551. There are still a few minor tweaks that I plan to do but overall I think the combination is great. I've already edited the gain table, and I still have a few minor seem edits to do. I've been really busy lately so I'll report back after I have time to really settle into this software and see how good it is, but my first impression is very good.

Arrow **UPDATE** Rogers .55R Firmware vs. Cingular .40R Firmware

I've had time to really get in and test the Rogers .55R firmware against the Cingular .40R. Just as a refresher .40R is the newest version Cingular has released. .55R is supposed to have enhancements for low signal areas. I have finally confirmed this through scientific tests in the basement of the science center here. Measurements were taken of signal strength in Engineering mode, and then again with the phone in the exact same position. The Rogers .55R firmware showed a 3 to 4 db increase on signal strength. This is a big difference as decibels are exponential. This makes a V551 with .55R installed almost as good as a V551 with .40R and an external antenna.

My only gripe with .55R is that it does not seem to support the EDGE icon, but I have benchmarked the phone as operating on EDGE. I also feel that battery life is slightly less than the .40R. This is a small quirk that I feel is minuscule in exchange for the increase in signal.

Later, Jay

I have not done any modding on the new models, and Motorola sat on their butt too long for me to wait for the 3G Q, so I bought an HTC Tilt. If you would like to share anything about your experiences modding the newer models feel free to post here.

Thanks again,

Jay

Sure, most of what I posted early in this thread was links, I saw no reason to rewrite what someone else already did a good job at.

Default Re: Jay's reference base for modding Motorola phones

Thanks Jay!!!!

I found this site a while ago (more than a year actually), it has good content, and best of all, direct free downloads from their own servers.

Here are the main guides directory

ModMyMoto - Software Modding and Updates for Motorola Phones - Powered by vBulletin

Originally written for the RAZR V3, these guides apply to almost ALL Motorola phones

Modding Drivers Installation
Flashing the phone (upgrading the software
Making a backup of the phone's firmware (ALWAYS MAKE IT )

Those are merely the basics, there are upgraded renewed guides where you can

edit the image that appears on the outer screen with the phone opened to everything you want, edit, add, delete or create skins,
enable useful features like signal improvement, battery saving,
augment the phone's speed,
change the font (letter type),
change the user interface,
you can also make it record video for longer periods of time,
improve the camera quality, add effects,
delete factory files (those nasty pics and tones),
unlock the phone for yourself (in some cases)

Besides the general content guides, there are specific guides to the following phones:

RAZR V3i, RAZR V3r, RAZR V3x, RAZR V6 MAXX, RAZR2 V8, RAZR2 V9, RAZR V3c, RAZR V3m, KRZR K1, KRZR K1m, RIZR Z3, ROKR E1, ROKR E2, ROKR E6, ROKR Z6, SLVR L2/L6, SLVR L7, SLVR L7 i-mode, SLVR L7i, SLVR L7e, SLVR L72, SLVR L9, e398, e380, Triplet Series (Vxxx), MPx Series, MING A1200, etc.

Just go to the link I provided for the guides, and select your phone model, or head to the forums, where there's a load of everything

The only detail is that in order to get to the Free Downloads, you must register. Other than that, it's friggin awesome

And since I'm on this, I myself made a software update package for the Motorola RAZR V3, maybe you'll like to take a look at it

ModMyMoto - Software Modding and Updates for Motorola Phones - Downloads

Please remember that if you mod your phone in any way, the warranty of the phone is void. But, if you read the guides, clear any doubts before proceeding, you'll do fine.

If you guys decide to join and start modding, and if you have any questions or need help, you can post here, in the other site, or send me a PM to any of the two sites.

Thanks to Jay for opening this wonderful thread, were we can make our Motos a "truly" phone

Question MAP OF HACKS FOR THE MOTOROLA Vxxx PHONE

Now, do these hacks work on the Motorola Razr V3M?
I just wanna make sure before I go crazy and fry my phone's SEEM.

Also, what all can you do in Boot Loader mode (Accessed by holding * + # during boot)?

I would not try any hacks listed here unless it is stated in the post that it is for a CDMA model. You could easily brick your phone doing the wrong hacks.
