my thoughts about the E815

I recently purchased the motorola E815. So far its a great phone. I previously had the LG 6100. As for as performance wise the E815 has better sound quality vs the LG 6100. I don't hear any background noise what so ever with the E815 vs other phones I recently have had. It is crystal clear when I call anyone on my phone. My only problem with it, is that I did noticed it did freezed on my when I was playing around with it the first day I got it though. Does anyone have this problem? Other than that no problems at all. It hasn't freeze on me yet since than. As for battery life it is really good. As purchased it on monday 7/18/05. I charged my battery and right now its on 2 bars, I think it has better battery life vs my previous phone. When will they make a extended battery for this model? I wish that the phone was smaller and more compact not as bulky as it right now.

For all the phones I have previously I think that the E815 is better, as for voice quality, reception, speaker, and volume wise. I always liked my samsung A670 phone. It is comparable with my current one now. I did read some reviews, and other people were saying that it echos sometimes. Is that true? I didnt noticed it yet when I was talking to people on my phone. I am glad that I got the motorola E815. I wanted to get the LG 8100 but it cost to much for me to get, I did paid full retail on my current phone now, but it is worth every penny. As for bluetooth wise, it will drain the battery quicker correct? Right now my settings for background lights I have it to the lowest setting because I want the battery to last a long time, which I have noticed. Is there anyway to eliminate the keypad lights? Camera wise it takes good pics. I mostly for the call quality and battery life issue though. As far for the EDVO, I noticed that they symbol is always there, that just means that If I wanted to get EVDO I have coverage when I see that symbol correct? If anyone has this phone, plz post ur thoughts about this phone Thanks.

Yes, If your phones shows the EV icon that means that EVDO coverage is available in your area.
I got the phone last night and it hasn't frozen on me or anything and I am amazed at everything it can do, even though EVDO is not yet available in my market. the Speech recognition is awesome. Much more to follow later.

I just ordered 2 of them -- one for me and one for my wife. I can't wait to see all the E815 can do.

I'll agree... the E815 is one of the better phones that motorola has put out. Nothing has beat the old startacs tho..

When it comes to bluetooth the phone uses a lot less battery due to the simple fact that when the phone is closed and you are using bluetooth, the display is not on. I've noticed a substantial increase in battery life when I'm using bluetooth.

The freeze problem is a known issues among users... It seems to freeze on me every few days and it always happens when I'm doing something with SMS or MMS. The phone doesn't completely "freeze" for me, it locks up and then the screen turns off and when it comes back on the display is very dim. Also, there seems to be an issue with the delivery of text messages... I've noticed every so often that if I stop receiving text messages, I can just reboot the phone and all the messages that never came through will magically arrive.

I'll love to say more stuff but I gotta get back to work before the boss catches me on here. More to come later...

I have not yet had any freeze issues with my e815(know on wood ), but my friend has had the 'freezing' issue you described happen to him once or twice.

Ever since I got the phone, It hasn't freeze on me yet even though it was the frist time it did it when I first purchased it. As for the text message when it freezes, I don't have that problem. As for MP3 music, How would u do that? Would u have to buy a cable that syncs to ur computer than download it onto ur phone? Can u make the MP3 as a ringtone? As for the phone itself, I think its the great one that Verizon has cameout, even though its a lil more bigger and bulkier, its worth the money to get one. Do you know when will a extended battery will come out for the phone? I got good standby time of 4 days which is good compare to my other phones I have which usually gets like 2-3 days. I got the E815, because I liked the way the style of it, the looks of it, and how it performed. I wanted to get the V710, but I didnt like the way it looked, even though it had AMPS back up. I live in san diego, so digital coverage is great out here. I did notice that the E815 has a bigger battery compartment vs the V710 so thats why I wanted to get a phone with good battery life also. If anyone can answer the about the MP3 plz post. Thanks

Battery life seems great. I had my phone on all night and talked just less than 3 hours yesterday and the battery ended up on 2 bars. I turned it off about 4 a.m. when I went to bed and turned it back on around 9 when I woke up and it's still on 2 bars. I wonder how long the battery will still last.
RF is exceptional. My E815 got better service driving through a canyon while it was in my pocket, than my LG in my hand at the car window. RF is exceptional!!!
I have no idea how the mp3 player works and i haven't really had tons of time trying to figure it out.

I checked out the e815 and the new lg 8100 and I walked out with the LG. I compared both phones and I really liked the LG better. This is coming from a motorola guy who had the 710 and now have (not by choice) the v551 which I hate.

I got my phone the day it came out, so far i have had a few lockups and and the echoes when using bluetooth have made it unuseable..my father has the e815 and same thing...as far as the extended battery im using the v710s extended for the time being...

I dont know if I got a defective phone but I had a terrible experience with the 8100. I now have the 815 and am much happier. The 8100 dropped a call on the Jersey Turnpike (not only dropped but went into searching for service for approx 15 seconds) I took the Jersey Turnpike home every weekend for 3 months and usually talked the whole way home and I never dropped a call with my A670.

Also, my up button would stick sometimes and you would have to push the down button to pop it out.

And finally I had a very hard time hearing people when using the 8100. So far I havent found any of these problems with the 815. Like I said my 8100 might have been defective but I am much happier with the Moto 815 so far.

Otherwise I loved the 8100 but the most important part for me is reception and sound quality and unfortunately it fell short there.

I will post a real review of the 815 once I have it for a little while longer.

I live in California and have had no problems with the LG 8100 at all. Every feature works great and no drop calls. I think you are right about have a bad phone. Enjoy the 815, I had the 710 and was a big fan of that phone.

the only problem i have with the 815 is that I cant find a person in the contact list by typing their name. only their first letter works ... I remember reading something about this a while ago but couldnt find anything when searching the site. Does anyone know how to type a persons name when searching through the contact list?

My only complaint on the E815 is, that the Vibrate mode sucks a$$!! It is way to weak!! Almost would be the best phone I have owned if not for the weak vibrator!!

It can't be done.

But you can set the phonebook to only display the primary number for each contact, which should help you have to scroll a little less.

The type of search you're asking for is something Moto will be implementing in their next generation (Linux-based) OS - unfortunately, it looks as though VZW is forcing Moto to load the VZWRed OS on their phones as well, so we'll probably never see it.

If you don't use VCast or DATA, then you will not notice a change whether your phone shows EV or 1x. Voice will stay the same. Hope this helps!

It's okay while you're sitting in class or something but it sucks when you're moving around. This is one thing I dislike about the phone as well as the way the media gallery is set up. I somehow don't like that too much either. But other than that it's an awesome phone IMO.

stockscalper: Have you actually held the V710 or E815? If you had, you'd know that it's only marginally bigger than the v60, and fits quite nicely in a pants pocket, unless you're one of those leather pants-wearing freaks.

What, exactly, are you looking for in a phone, anyway? First you say that the E815 is 'huge', then you complain that the GSM RAZR is 'huge'. What is it you want in a phone, exactly? The Zoolander phone? A brain implant? Something like a phone can only get so small - you've got earpiece and mic placement to consider, plus not all of us have itty-bitty tiny hands with which to dial a microscopic phone.

And how, exactly, does the E815 look like it came out of "the 1980s"? Have you seen one bolted to a dashboard, or tethered to a bag the size of an igloo cooler?

I think that the Motorola E815 is a excellent phone. I had all kinds of phones from LG to samsung to audiovox, to the motorola. I pretty much had all the phones. So far the E815 is the best one yet. I know that it is bulky, other than that it has excellent reception, great voice quality, and good battery life. I know that all CDMA phones dont have the greatest battery life its just because the way the technology is. I used to have cingular and so far I know that the battery life on GSM is better because of the fact its GSM and has a lower frequency. I just think it depends on where the cell sites are located at and that will determine ur battery life consumption also depends on how long u talk also. I do hope that motorola will have a phone that is a little more compact and lighter than the E815, with a newer verison though. I guess the E815 is more bulkier because of the battery size that has on it, thats what will make the difference on standby time and talk time vs other phones. To me I think that the samsung A670 is comparable with my E815. Although it will need a extended battery for the A670 to keep up with the E815 talk time and standby time. Thats just my opinion though.

Maybe the Moto scalpel which is half the thickness of the RAZR will satisfy his need for a phone to be thin enough as to allow osmosis.
