Post Let's get to know everyone

Hey everyone,

Let's get to know everyone around here. When you get a chance, post the type of Pocket PC/Windows Mobile Device you use, and some history about your previous devices, whether they be Palm, Pocket PC, or Symbian, among others. I'll start. I use the Dell Axim X3i, I have a discontinued Handspring Visor Prism, and a Palm M100. Let's hear what everyone else has, then we'll go from there.

Currently I own a Compaq 3760, and a Palm m505. The first PDA I had was a Palm IIIxe, then a Handspring Visor. Personally I prefer the Palm OS, but thats probably because that's what I started with.

Sounds good. As you can tell, I've had my fair share of Palm OS handhelds, but I like variety, which is why I bought the Axim.

Currently using the Samsung i600 smartphone, but I still have the HP Jornada 568 on the side, primarly as a gps machine, although I will occasionally pop my aircard in and play on the internet. Other than integrated wifi and bluetooth, I have not found a reason to invest in a new pda or retire the Jornada just yet.

I did carry a Samsung i700 for about six months, and have recently used an ipaq 4355 (the spiffy ipaq with the built in keyboard.)

I do have plans on upgrading later this year to the HTC Harrier when it is released by Verizon..I have wifi at home, but will wait for the Harrier which will have EVDO and 1xrtt capabilities built in as well as bluetooth.

My first official pda was the Phillips Nino, although I did carry some phone organizers before then.

The Phillips Nino ran Windows CE had a monochrome screen and a cf slot, I used a socket digital phone card to couple it with my wireless phone. I then carried the Kyocera 6035, then the Samsung I300, then the Treo 300 then the Samsung I330, then the Samsung i700, and now the Samsung i600.

I'm partial to Windows Mobile, however I have used Palm OS devices as well

I almost forgot I do carry a Blackberry 6750, which I use for business, and would be lost with out it.

I'm waiting for RIM to release their Blackberry client for Window's Mobile, which should be coming out within the next few months. I saw it at CTIA this year, the only problem I see is that it will require an alway's on data session...which even in a dormant mode will kill a battery.

Sounds like everyone here has had some experience, whether it be major or minor, with the Windows Mobile platform. Now I have some bearing on where everyone stands. Let's see who else comes to this section of Wirelessadvisor, then we'll go from there.
Thanks for being so cooperative everyone.

I'm currently split between using my SE P900 and my O2 XDA II. Before the XDA II (which runs PPC 2003), I had the original XDA (64MB version), with PPC 2002... couldn't afford anything before that.

Cheers

I bought a Handspring Visor Deluxe in 2000. Two years later I bought a Visor Neo. I loved the Neo and used it all the time. A few months ago I put it aside when I bought a Dell Axim x3. I miss the Palm OS and have been looking at some of the new Palm devices and I'm thinking about going back. I liked how Palms have A LOT more applications (and many of them are free). The number of applications available for the Pocket PC is a little limited and what is available isn't free.

Which Axim x3 do you have, the 300MHz one, the 400MHz one, or the 400MHz one with integrated wireless?
Not all software costs money, you've just got to know where to look. I suggest you run a search on Kazaa or eMule using the search term "Pocket PC". You'd be surprised how much retail software you can get for free, and most of it works identically to their retail counterparts. Most software you download will come with a key/keygen, but on those rare occasions, it's not hard to locate a key. Any other questions on the matter, feel free to get in touch with me via MSN Messenger, AIM, email, or simply leave a post here, and I'll take a look.

The 300mhz...no extra bells or whistles.

I know where to look. The point I was trying to make is I didn't have to go that route with a Palm because there are a bunch of free apps that do the same thing (and sometimes better) as their retail counterparts. A good resource for free PPC software is www.freewareppc.com.

What you are referring to is the distribution of illegal software. Please refrain from that type of discussion here.

On another note: I have a Dell Axim X5 Advance (400mhz, PPC 2002).

I just got a Samsung i600 and my PDA is a Garmin iQUE 3600 with most of the west coast loaded on the SD card.

Activesync does not like the Palm Untellisync. I can sync the iQUE any number of times after I re-boot the PC, but once I sync the i600, the iQUE sync program hangs. Re-booting fixes the problem.

I have a Dell Axim 3i, my first real PDA. Long time ago I had a TI organizer, the kind with the keyboard, but I accidentally stepped on it and broke the liquid crystal monitor. After than I was reduced to bit 'n' pieces of paper and those 2 year planners with the pretty covers. I love my Dell, tho. Even bought it a Piel Frama case.

Yeah, the Axim is definitily one of the more practically PDAs on the market. I mean, sure an HP iPAQ H5555 could do everything the Axim X3i could, but why pay the extrordinary high price for some features, like the biometric fingerprint scanner, that, frankly, you're not really going to need. For the price of tha iPAQ, you could buy two Axims, so why waste the money. Real life is about practicality and ease of use of technology, as well as it's seamless integration into our society today.

I currently use an AudioVox PPC5050, which is a PocketPC 2003 Phone Edition device. Previously, I used a Toshiba 2032 PPC, and prior to that a Handspring treo 300. My first mobile device was an HP Omnigo100, followed by a Psion 3.
