Default MotoQ on Sprint

Hi guys, been a while...
I have a PPC-6700 on Sprint now and want to switch to the Motorola Q on Sprint but have heard the Q drops a lot of calls. Can anyone share their Q experience in regards to dropped calls.

Thanks,
aje

I used the Q on Verizon but never had any issues with dropped calls. Can't personally speak to the Sprint version..

My Q has been great with RF and call quality. It can be buggy, but no dropped calls.

It's not the OS that is buggy, it's how it's implemented on the devices. Both HTC & Moto need to learn how Palm tweaks the OS on their incredibility stable 700wx.

This will be a point that I will disagree with you on. I had the 700wx for 3 weeks, let me detail some of the issues I had:

1. Email-with my direct push email service through exchange, i was receiving emails intermittently at best. When I would look at the device, it would more times than not, show no new messages. Then when I would do a manual send/receive multiple additional messages that would have not been delivered to the device. 2 Hard resets and multiple soft resets couldn ‘t solve the issue. The issues that I was having are basically identical to the ones that were detailed here:
pocketnow.com: Reviews - Article: Over the Air Synching Issues Investigation
by Chris Spera and commented on by Dave Ciccone early last year.

I have come to rely on my email while mobile, and the intermittent functioning of Activesync on this unit was not acceptable to me.

2. Bluetooth-Unacceptable usage. The radio seemed very weak, and I would almost always have to hold the phone close to the headset to keep from getting static. Also, the A2DP was very flakey, and I would often have to soft reset the device to get it to work properly. The funny thing is, I don’t even have the feature on the Blackberry now, but don’t really mind at this point!

3. Network issues-I would often have times where the Treo would by trying to connect to the EV-DO network without success. It would seem that the connection would drop, and it would take either a manual reconnection to the data service, or a soft reset sometimes to make it work.

The device overall is a big step from the 700w (in terms of memory) but I feel that the biggest thing that I used (email) was so unreliable, that taking away some of the other features that I was used to are worth it to get a device that just does what it is supposed to.

OK, you got me on the direct push / exchange & BT problems. I have heard many complain about that on WM5 overall, not just on the Treo. I do think Palm could of improved the BT on the Treo, so I put more blame on them for the poor BT. The network issues sound like a Palm/Verizon issue. I have not had any problems with the phone part of my Treo or connecting / staying connected to EV-DO on Sprint. Not to mention Palm just pulled their Verizon 700w/wx upgrade for this very reason.

It's a tragedy really, I thought it was a HUGE step up from the Q, but the issues with it turned me off to the Windows Mobile platform temporarily. I hope the new Q and the Windows Mobile 6 OS can change my mind.

I can't say that I have notice these direct push e-mail issues. Though I don't live an die by my device either, with my new job I am in front of my laptop most of the day so I use outlook. I am going to start paying attention though. I do remember these type of issues when the first Treo 700w came out but they were fixed with the ROM update that had the actual "Diret Push" technology. in the original ROM Exchange w/SP1 would send a txt message to the device telling the device to initiate a sync. Well if you didn't have good reception and couldn't recieve the txt message the device would never sync.

I just went from a treo 650 all tricked out, custom rom, etc. to a new Q9m and absolutely love this device. It is 100% better than the keyboard on the original. Taking some getting used to, but in half a days use without data I am still at full strength.

zamboni,

Somebody mentioned you can change the UI to the default WM UI instead of having to use the Verizon UI. Can you confirm this?

Thanks,
aje
