The only thing I can think of is to do a hard reset. But to me it sounds like you got a bad phone. An email to the sell is in order.

Many electronic devices have a recessed button that can only be accessed by putting a small pointed object such as a paper clip in the hole where the button is located. If you don't have the device user manual, phonescoop.com may have a link to a PDF version so you can refer to it.

However, I agree with the 1st respondant that most likely, you have a defective device. Unfortunately, ebay is infamous for such sellers. Surprisingly, though, one of my relatives has never gotten burned from what they've purchased on ebay.

with your left hand hold in the Connection button (top left) the voice dial button and camera button (top and bottom right respectively) take your stylus and press the pinhole reset button on the right side, while still holding the other 3 keys, release only the reset button. At this point you should have a black screen asking you to press send to restore to factory conditions, you can now release the 3 other keys and hit send.

Sounds to me like faulty hardware, email the seller and call HTC, if the seller is uncooperative HTC has a 1 year warranty on its phones, if it's not past that then you'll have to send it in to their repair center (fairly cheap.)
