SmartPhone Recommended Applications

Just noticed that there's a sticky on PPC Recommended Applications, but where's the one for SmartPhones???

1) IM+ (www.shapeservices.com) - This is the BEST IM application you can buy for the smartphone...much more robust than Agile IMO.

2) 1-Homedit (www.omegaone.com/home.htm) - A good home screen editor

3) Battery Pack Pro (www.omegaone.com/home.htm) - Excellent program that tracks your battery usage, memory, etc.

4) MSFT Voice Command - Simply the ONLY solution that compares to the WM2003 version that came with the Motorola MPX series phone

5) Don't Forget - The best, FREE reminder program that reminds you of missed appointments, SMS and calls. It doesn't remind you of voicemails left however.

6) Call Filter - This FREE application can forward unwanted calls to your voicemail or simply reject them altogether.

7) Fizz Bill Now - Another FREE application that allows you to split a meal between several parties, along with percentage tip, etc.

8) Omapclock - FREE program that overclocks your Tornado-based smartphone.

9) SmartTweaker - Allows you to tweak your smartphone

10) TCPMP - The best FREE movie player in the market

11) Jetware Mobile - This complements MSFT Voice Command by allowing you to use your bluetooth headset or carkit

In 2 years it wont matter anymore as the two os's are becoming one but for the time being will a mod sticky this so people can share their recommendations.

My "must have" applications are:
Papyrus (already mentioned) PIM replacement
Facade home screen plug-in for showing multiple calendar and task items and launcher bar.
phoneAlarm for repeating notifications and profile management.
Sprite Backup.
Total Commander file manager (including .zip) and Registry editor
FlexWallet for keeping secure data.
Virtual Pool - the only game I play on my Smartphone.

I only have two "Must have" applications, and I use them both on a daily basis on my HP iPAQ 6515.

1. Microsoft Voice Command
2. TomTom 5 GPS Navigation

Um, I didn't know the iPAQ was a smartphone...isn't that a PDA?

Technically yes, but I don't use it as a PDA, and since we are discussing Windows Mobile software, and the iPAQ is a Windows Mobile device, those are the applications I use.

Leave it to Microsoft to have two Windows Mobile Platforms: Pocket PC & Smartphone

Of course, applications that were written for Windows Mobile Pocket PC will not work with Windows Mobile Smartphone and vice-versa.

What exactly is Sprite Backup? I see it preinstalled on my Tilt, but I have no idea what it is for. I guess I'm kinda old school and to me sprites are computer animated objects. I did a lot of work with making sprites on my Commodore 64 when I was a kid.

It basicly backs up "ALL" of your PPC info. SPB Back up is a simular product.

sprite backup lite is the same thing without the desktop component and remote backup I believe. I went with the lite version. I have used it to restore my device twice so far with no problems.
