Default Shutting Down Applications On BlackjacK?

Is there a way or a program to shut down application completely instead of running in the background? Seems like the only way to do it is with the "task manger".

Please help.

Thanks Much

Please tell me about the new phone...are you liking it? I may actually step away from a Blackberry and try out a Blackjack or 8525.

Charylee, You may want to check out AE Button Plus, which is pretty popular among PPC users.

Without 3rd party software, you found the way! Turning the phone off and then back on will do it also!

Thanks AZ. I have not been able to freeze the Blackjack yet even without shutting down applications. I probably soft reset my IPAQ just about once a day..

Thanks Budney, I will look into it.

Yes I am liking it very much. I have never owned a Blackberry mainly because we can not download our work E-Mail on it due to security/proprietary/firewalls and what ever else. I have however owned a SX66, QTEK 9100 and also a 8125.

Firstly as you know, the Blckjack is really a WM5 Smartphone not a PDA even though Cingular insists it is a PDA and needs to have the expensive PDA connect plan (sorry my pet peeve), so it is not as much a PDA as the 8125, eg. no editing documents only viewing. There are also limitation on ToDo List and Notes Synchronization. The good part is that there are reasonably priced third party application software that take care of these shortcomings very succesfully.

I love the size and the feel, I like to use my phone one handed and none of the others were conducive to that. The keys are a little small and a bit cramped and the screen not real large but those are the sacrifices for the small, slim and compact unit, so I don't mind that.

I was pleasantly surprised by how fantastic a phone it is, loud and crystal clear. I come from a long succession of Nokias and the reception on the BJ is in par with the best of them.

One of these days I will write a full review, but in the meantime please ask if you have any specific questions that you think I can answer.

PS: I have a request in for an unlock code from Cingular but I think that is not going to happen anytime soon.

Hope it helped some....

Thanks for the feedback. My last foray into a non BB device was a Nokia 9300 and I had to constantly reset it. It's pathetic processor could not handle the applications. I don't really do any attachment modification on my BB. The only thing I would like ot be able to do is forward attachments in a seperate email than the one they are attached to. This would require to save it to memory then attach it to a message. Will it do that?

I have not been able to freeze my BJ yet by leaving applications open so you are ok there.

About saving attachments first before forwarding, I just tried it and I am not seeing the option to save it in any of the menus. That actually does not mean it can not be done, I just have learnt all the features of the phone yet, I will keep looking and let you know.

You have no idea what you got started....lol.

So far I have checked with Cingular Store, Second level Cingular Tech Support, Second level Samsung Tech Support And now I am on hold with third (?) level Cingular tech support. So far nobody has an idea idea how to save an E-Mail attachment.

Stay tuned............................

Depends on what the attachment is. if it is a photo, just open it up in the photo viewer by clicking on it, and doing a Save As. I don't think it is possible with Docs since the software that comes with the Smartphone OS is only a viewer of the PDF/DOC/XLS/PPT files...

That's my problem with the Blackberry

It appears that Cingular has disabled/hidden the attachment feature on the BJ:

Of course, you could do this:
AttachSmart for Saving Attachments on a Smart Phone

Would you believe that the level 3 Cingular tech called me back in a couple of hours to tell me almost exactly what you posted including the same application. I wonder if he gets his info from HoFo also .

Thanks for the link I will check it out tomorrow.

One of the features they claim is the ability to save attachments from email received. Check out this thread. There is a contact at PocketTV who created it:

Thanks, I do see the option to save it now, but I can't seem to get to my attachment to save it, I must be missing something very simple.

It is also lunchtime and I am very hungry and so my brain is not functioning so I will give it a try later and let you know.

Thanks again....

Default Re: Shutting Down Applications On BlackjacK?

wirles, I have it figured out. Where the Blackjack hides the opened attachment is twice removed from the default location, and that was my problem. I have the free trial version so I don't know if the purchased copy will allow me to set my own default location and that would save a few key strokes.

As an answer to your original question, yes with the "attachsmart" it is very easy to save and also attach files etc, to E-Mails.

Thanks for all the help......
