Default Qtek S200 Review

For those of my friends reading this, they will say--"He switched again". For others, it is just another review.

The Qtek S200 is an unbelievable device. I have never used a phone quite like this, and I am very impressed. Let's start with the obvious-The Pros!!!

PROS:
  • Beautiful form factor
  • Solid Construction
  • Color is awesome-Jet Black Gun Metal
  • Buttons are perfectly placed and are much more multifunctional then any other PPC I have used
  • MMC-SD slot is on top so you never touch it by accident
  • USB Charger and sync on bottom-not on top like Nokia 6131-Ughhhhhh
  • WiFi is perfect and very fast-sets itself up and connects to router in an instant
  • EDGE is super fast as well
  • RF is great so far, I have not left my house yet-****Charlyee snickers******
  • Earpiece volume is ok, sound quality is crystal clear
  • screen is very sensitive, and very multifunctional-NO KEYS****REPEAT**There are no keys, it has a really cool color coded Virtual Keypad. Blue for T9, other colors for other functions. It took me about 10 minutes to get used to the multitap on the Virtual Keypad
  • Bluetooth is a snap and sound is incredible
  • Stereo Headphones are not cheap at all-wire reinforced and volume slide control on loop-sound is full stereo and reallly excellent
  • Camera is awesome-2MP-great shots which I will add later on
  • Easily downloaded all my programs on to a 512MB SanDisk-SD. The beauty of Windows Mobile 5

CONS:
  • I have to mention the keys again, at some point everyone will want to press a key, but they are really NOT needed
  • No FM Radio, Nokia spoiled me

Over all I would say that my search is over, (Charlyee laughs outloud). This Quadband Black Beauty is everything I need and I believe it is worth every penny. By the way, David from Mad Monkey Boy is the best seller and customer service expert on the internet. BUY THIS PHONE FROM MMB!!!!!!!

Seriously though Steven, it is a very nice review and I am happy for you that you found what you were looking for.

Have lots of fun with it.

Charlyee,

This one will never make it to eBay, because my wife will smash it over my head if I try to sell it. She is ready to call Cell Phones Anonymous on me and send me to those support groups.

Good deal! We have both moved on from the 6515. It is a great device, but time for a change!

Absolutely, I agree, and I fell in love with a Windows Platform after the IPAQ.

Nice device! Have lots of fun with it. If you need help finding/with apps let me know.

I would love to get my hands on the 8500, but to expensive right now for a backup/prepay phone.

I do agree with both of you WM5 is a great OS.

Budney,

Thanks, I would love some info on apps. That is why I love WM5 so much, apps just look SO good. Agile Messenger works great. World Mate Pro looks like it is in Hi Def!!! MemMaid is a killer app too! Tell me about what you like?

Here is what I have on my 6700 right now:

Wisbar Advance - Lakeridge Software

iLauncher - SBSH Mobile Software

Opera Mobile for WM5 - opera.com

PHM Registry Editor - freewareppc.com

psShutXP - freewareppc.com

SKTools (Trying Out) Like Memmaid - http://s-k-tools.com/

I also have tried some of these today plugins trianglepowers.com I kept the one handed dialer, very cool. The BT toggle is nice, but I am working on the A2DP hack right now. the WMP Status is the only one that doesn't seem to work correctly.

I do have some more, but need to find them. I just cleaned out my PC (full reinstall).

Steven,

Except for the slide out keyboard and the smaller form factor how do the QTEK s200 & the QTEK 9100 (Cingular 8125) compare in your opinion.

Just curious.

Thanks

I didn't realize the s200 didn't have a slide out keyboard. OUCH! I love the one on my 6700. It's one feature my pda/phones will have.

Sure Charlyee, first of all, with this device, as soon as you place it in your hand, you feel an immediate difference. It feels exactly like the 6682 that we had. It is that compact. It is allot less bulky then the BRICKY 8125. I have never had a 9100, but this device is very comfortable. I also just upgraded to the lateset DOPOD ROM, and the thing is humming!

Thanks Steven but if you leave out the feel and the form factor (and they are very important I agree) how does it compare in functionality?

Now keep in mind the QTEK 9100 & the Cingular 8125 are exactly the same device functionality wise. In other words how do their brains compare?

Thanks again.......

Listen, apparently you engineers are allot smarter then us sales people. Ok, the brains, ok. The device is allot faster then either one. Especially with the new ROM. The WiFi is better, the processor is faster, and the display is nicer.

LOL Steven, frustrating isn't it to try to communicate with a technical person, think how I feel evertime I have to deal with our sales & marketing folks.......... .

Thanks Steven, have a great time playing with your new toy and good luck with it.

PS: You do know that your answer was too vague for me, words like faster, better, nicer don't mean anything to me...................

OK, so here is my analysis for my best buddy from Wisconsin, via M.I.T.

The Screen is much brighter, and clearer then the 8125 or the IPAQ 6515.
The connection is 214.4532 milliseconds faster then the 8125-
The weight is 4 grams lighter then anything out there, including Helium
The keys are spaced 24mm closer then the 8125, and control more functions.
The ROM will soon be deployed by NASA on a mission to discover whether or not there were engineers on Pluto before there were Dinosaurs, and, if I think of anything else, I will be sure to apply for a patent from the FCC.

Love ya Charlyee----

Steve, do you have any idea how tempted I am to say "what a typical Marketing VP, if you don't have the answer just make up something".

OR if you prefer:

"If you cannot dazzle them with brilliance baffle them with BS".

I think I better stop now, don't want JFB or one of the mods to ban me........

Seriously though, did you try it outside the house and how does the reception compare with the 6230, 6682, or the 6131?

Charlyee,

Joe or any of the mods that know us both, would never ban us for this, they obviously know we are playing, and that despite your best efforts, I am STILL a big Charlyee fan. Now, with that being said, I took the phone to pick up my daughter and the RF is phenominal. The bars never dropped once, even in places that Cingular usually drops a little. Charlyee, buy this phone, you have never known me to be so insistant about a device. This is the REAL DEAL! You are a PDA fan, you have an IPAQ and you have owned a Qtek and an 8125, you will love this.

PS,

I am not the typical VP of Marketing, I am a big kid with a grown up job, and an obsession with cell phones!!

Steven, I am very glad that you like your new toy.

Thanks for the high recommendations but I will pass. You are right I love PDAs (btw I have also had the SX66), but I have learned the hard way, that PDA Phones are not for me. of all the ones I had, the QTEK 9100 was the best, so I am sure the S200 also is.

Have lots of fun with it....
