I just recently purchased Verizon's XV6700 phone, and am using their internet service for the phone. One thing the saleman failed to mention to me was that my area is out of range for their data coverage, so it's usueless to me. I've thought about setting up an account with a regular dial-up internet service to connect with, but i'm not sure if this would use up my minutes. Can anyone answer this question for me? It would be great if I could use one, since it'd be way cheaper than the $45/month that verizon charges for their service.

I am not up on the current Verizon data offerings, but I doubt that they offer CSD any more (most carriers don't any more). You may not be in a EVDO area, but I bet you are in a 1XRTT area, which is much faster then CSD & would require a data plan. Hopefully WirelessBeachBum or cryogenic will see this thread, they are Verizon VX6700 users.

All Verizon sites have 1xrtt capabilities (National Access.) that will give you 60-80k on average and peak out at 144k. You have some options when it comes to data plans with Verizon. A pay as you go data rate, you pay per kb used. A 24.99 10 MB plan A 44.99 Unlimited MB plan. And there are some Voice and Data bundles that are also available, that lower the price of Unlimited data depending on how big a voice plan you have. (These plans are only available on stand alone plans.) With the 6700 and most newer PDA's they are designed to stay connected to the data network to enable Push email, so Verizon no longer allows a "minutes of use" plan on their PDA's. You could get a pretty hefty bill if you racked up 30k minutes of airtime in one month...(I've seen it happen accidently a few times.) a $6-7000 overage charge is not pretty. If you have wifi at your home or office you may want to look into applying the registry change that allows you to use wifi and wireless at the same time, this will give you more data options. |
