Default HP 6515 on Cingular?

Anyone know when Cingular will be getting the HP IPAQ 6515? I have a friend who just got one from a source and is using it on T-Mobile, and it rocks! I am interested to know when it will be out for Cingular if anyone has a timeline...

I bet that is a sweet device, I was drooling when I frist heard of it (pics/specs). I don't know when it's going to be available for either carrier though. Phonescoop still says Mid 2005. But if it dose get release by another carrier you can always unlock it.

Or get it online for $700! Having seen it first hand though, it might just be worth it. My buddy sent it in to have the internal memory doubled, and had to purchase the SD Wi-Fi card add on, and of course added TomTom for the GPS. It is in my mind the perfect phone/device!

Based on your feedback, I am the proud owner of one as well. Great device, all that is missing is the ability to play ringtones for caller ID's. Other then that, perfect PDA!

Excellent! Welcome to having a great device! If you have any questions, let me know. There are some great websites out there that can offer you TONS of support with a PPC device.

******UPDATE******

This is a fantastic device. I love it. It does NOT have Nokia's RF, nothing does, however, the phone does everything. As soon as the 6900 series comes out, with Win 5 and WiFi, I am there. I have also purchased Photo Contacts Pro, which shows full screen pics and plays ringtones when people call. I use this to tell me when a client is calling as opposed to a co-worker or family!

Thanks Mick for the great advice.

I downloaded MS Voice Command, and I love it, but it does LAG the reaction time a bit. Have you used it. I had to install on the default memory because you cannot place on the SD. Any ideas to save RAM?

Cingular is offering a refurb model for $199, however my local independent dealer offered me a new one for $150 after rebates. Shop around. I ended up buying AZ's 6515 with all his extra goodies. It will be here around Wednesday. I can't wait.

MS Voice Command is one of the best programs for the 6515. IT was one of those "killer aps" in my opinion. I sometimes noticed a lag, but never really thought anything of it.

As for ideas on saving RAM, I just try to keep my program installations to only those things that I really use. A hard reset ever 6 weeks or so will also allow you to reinstall only those things that you use and make it a faster running device.

Also, make sure if you use Internet Explorer often, that you go in and delete the temp files regularly. I used about 1mb of space every day on the internet with the device. This can add up quickly!

Let me know if you understand what I am talking about.

Thanks

Mickey

Mickey,

Thanks, and I do understand everything. I have a program called MemMaid, which cleans out EVERYTHING once a day. All temps, all bad shortcuts, bad registry, and so forth. It is worth it's weight in gold. I HATE hard resets, although I have done them and just restored the backups, it is a pain. I soft reset a few times a day. The phone is running great, but I am still gonna upgrade to the 6900 series when I can. Thanks buddy and enjoy IN!!!!

Can you hear me now?

What ROM do you have on the device. When you start it up does it say 1.12 or 1.04? I upgraded mine from 1.12 to 1.21.07(beta) and then to 1.21.20(BETA) and brought my soft resets down from 1-2 per day to 1-2 per week! Granted the different ROM is not supported by HP yet, but it really helped on some of the issues that you are talking about. Memmaid is a great program. I have heard of a lot of people that use it and love it!

If I didn't just buy WisBar Advance & iLauncher, I would pick MemMaid up. With all the new programs & hacks for my 6700, my 6682 sits on my desk all the time. I just can't stop using my 6700. I know you 6515 owners are probably the same way. These newer PDA/smartphone device are awesome these days. I know I will never get another normal cell phone again.

Granted the different ROM is not supported by HP yet, but it really helped on some of the issues that you are talking about. Memmaid is a great program. I have heard of a lot of people that use it and love it!

Mickey,

The ROM is 1.12. Have you or Shores ever used XDA-ROMS? If I did, which one would I use? How did you upgrade, is it difficult? I have hacked Moto's before, but never this type of phone.

I know you 6515 owners are probably the same way. These newer PDA/smartphone device are awesome these days. I know I will never get another normal cell phone again.

Budney,

Thanks for responding. MemMaid does so much, I would never be without it again. I am so afraid to hack this phone, any words of peace and encouragement?

The 1.21 ROMS's are much more stable than the 1.12 varieties. They can be found in various places, but there are links in the forums that I moderate

http://mobilitytoday.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=83

You basically unpack the zip file and run the hpRUU file and it walks you through it.

It will delete all data from the device and you have to reinstall it manually since it is not the same as what you might have on a previous ROM. i.e. Don't restore a backup!

Did yours work without a hitch. I have heard some nightmare stories!!! Also, are these ok to use on a Cingular branded phone?

No I definitely ran into the issue that they talk about where the device gets stuck at .01% and is unusable. There was a way (something about pulling out the battery, and not loading everything) that I used to get it to work right. The phone that you have (Cingular Branded) is the 6515a model. You have to download the ROM that has is usable for any type of 6515. The one that is "unedited" will not work. If if find the way to get it to work if there is issue, I will post it here.

Read what ever you can about hacking your device, and read it until you understand it and the lingo. Then start out small, and work you way up to the big stuff. And of course you know about pdaphonehome.com & xda-developers.com, right!
