Is there some direction available for using the "word" option for text on the LG 8350? It has a mind of its own, and there is no intuitive way to override what it thinks I want. The manual is no help. Even my techie SO can't figure this out. Thanks for any help, SylvanB |

You might want to give LG customer service a call - (800) 793-8896. You aren't kidding about the manual. I'm wondering if the T9 input is a default of the Verizon UI. On the Voyager, Notepad entry is as typed. But I'm guessing this could be because it has a full QWERTY keyboard. Hopefully LG CS can help.

Thanks, Mike. If I harass CS somebody might notice there's a problem! It's really not that important to me, though. I found the following on various forums. However, no matter what I typed it came out gibberish. That might be specific to this phone, although I don't see how. Fortunately, I don't use texting -- it is so clutzy at best -- but I thought the Notepad be handy. Guess not! ================================================ Re: Bluetooth and 8350 by SystemShock Oct 30, 2007, 3:30 PM The T9 is fine... its fast, as the keypad/keys are well-shaped and responsive. There are two minor annoyances though: 1- The default text entry method is 'non-predictive text' (what Verizon calls 'Abc')... to change the default to T9/predictive text entry, go into the menus, go to Messaging, select Settings (left soft key/shoulder button), select Entry Mode, then select 'Word' (which is what Verizon calls T9/predictive text). Btw, there is no iTap on LGs... iTap is a Motorola thing. 2- The other annoyance can't be fixed, sadly. With predictive text entry, there are sometimes multiple words that can come up from the combination of keystrokes you input, and the phone will give you the most common word, which may not be the one you want. On Nokias, if the word that comes up wasn't the one you wanted, you could (99% of the time) select the word you really wanted from a list of matches. The Verizon OS does not offer that option, far as I can tell. So occassionally you have to switch over to 'Abc' input and type the exact word in manually. Not fun, slows you down some. Still, overall, once you've gotten the hang of it, text entry is pretty quick/easy for a non-keyboard phone. ================================================== ================== Hey there - The word mode is a really a neat method of typing. Basically, you'll need to press the key with the "wanted letter" only once, and the phone will guess which word you're trying to type. Let's get started. The first thing you'll want to do is put the phone on "Word" mode, rather than abc mode. This can be done in the VX8600 by individually setting each message by pressing the left soft key, or globally (which means, for all future messages) setting by going to [Menu][Messaging][Settings][Entry Mode][All Messages]. Once set, you may be confused how to type. Basically, just press each letter of a word once. For example - if you'd like to type "fantastic" - press 3 (which has f) first. Don't worry if you see a different letter other than f; the phone will auto-correct you as you go (it's kinda like magic). Now, press 2 (which has a), then 6 (which has n), 8 (which has t), 2( which has a), 7 (s), 8(t), 4(i), 2(c). Fantastic. Hopefully, this will clarify how the system works. In other phones, the "Word" mode will actually show which word the phone thinks you're typing (I haven't found a comparable feature in the LGVX8600 yet). Two things I have found - if the word you're typing isn't the word you want OR you don't have the letter you want - press "0" (or next) while the letter/word is black. This will "try the next guess" each time "0" is pressed. Notably, this is useful in changing a "." into a "!" (or other punctuation). Lastly, one quick shortcut. If you'd like to type a number, just hold down the number. So, if you want to "15", hold "1" until a "1" appears and then repeat with the 5. The shift and space keys still work the same. Hope this helps! ============================================== T9 is only good if you dont look at the screen. you must concentrate on the key punches only...if you do the words generally (i say generally not always) comes out right. I actually like using T9 on my 6131. I love how it starts out with gibberish and ends with the correct word, with the option to add new words I have never had a problem. On my Treo it has "word suggestion" and the option to choose after how many letters & how many words, amongst other things. It also remembers a word that was last used or used 3 times. |

on most lg phones, once you put in the correct word, the phone will remember it. For example, my phone would always write carrie, when i wanted to write cassie until i typed cassie in manually on or two times. now cassie is the first choice on predictive text.

OK, so keeping at it would "train" the SW. That would mean using the Abc mode to enter the correct word, right?

that, or the combination of portions of predicted text entries. ie type the first keys that correspond to the word you wish to be "trained into your phone" Then press next until that part of the word reads correctly. Then press the Right navigation key and put in the next portion of the word followed by next until it reads correctly. Do tha until you have the word you want. That is how i "train" my predicted text. (confusing, but i only have to do it once per new word)
