Ok - I figured it out!! (with the help of another forum) In case anyone else needs to know here is what you do: You need to get a USB cable for the phone. Download BitPim, plug in your phone [with USB set to Modem], and install the LG Phone drivers if your computer does not automatically find the drivers. Delete the ringtones out of the audios folder, and back them up to your computer. Open up BitPim and click on view. Make sure there is a check next to "View Filesystem." If not, click on it to check it. Then, plug in the phone. It will not detect LG AX565, but will say "Other CDMA Phone on _________." On the left hand side of BitPim, expand the folder Filesystem. Then click on dload and right click on "lg_mysound.dat" and back it up to your computer. Once you have backed the file up, delete it. Now expand the folder brew and media and lk and finally click on ms. Then, open up the folder on your computer with your ringtone files, and drag them into the ms folder in BitPim. It will take about 30 seconds or so to add each file. Once you have added all of your ringtones, unplug the phone from your computer, restart, and enjoy *For the total NOOB - If bitpim is does not see your phone then got to phone MENU-SETTINGS-PC CONNECTIONS and make sure your phone is set to USB Modem.

Thanks a bunch for this! I've spent about 4 days trying to get this to work on my AX565 (using the post on HowardForums that I think you looked at). The AX565 is my first cell phone ever though, so I really needed the "total NOOB" hint that you gave, and the HowardForums post didn't mention. After that it only took a minute or so to get it working. Thank you so much!

My USB cable came with a CD that had drivers on it, so all I had to do was put in the CD, plug in the phone, and let Windows find and install the drivers. Try this driver: www.imjosh.com/LG_USB_Driver.zip I can't guarantee that it will work, but apparently it should.

I have read this over and over again. I'm not a complete moron. I have the LG AX8600 and have had no problems with putting ringtones on it. My fiancee had the same phone I did but broke it and wound up with the AX565 as his replacement phone. It uses the same USB as my phone. Mine works without the drivers for what I want to do with it, so I don't have the drivers CD. I tried using the link in this thread. While Bitpim seems to be communicating with the phone, I still can't get ringtones onto the phone. I'm not completely sure that I have it set on the right com port. I checked view filesystem and have it set to other CDMA phone. When I expand the filesystem folder, all I had was an open folder with / next to it. So, I don't have the "lg_mysound.dat" in there. I am still making attempts to get the drivers and maybe that will help. I also can't find this at all..."Now expand the folder brew and media and lk and finally click on ms"...I would really appreciate any additional help or instructions that you can provide. Thanks Christie

I had the same problem. Finally found the drivers(google search) - not for the Ax565 I couldn't find that - I downloaded the drivers for the AX8600 or the Musiq (can't remember). Then the computer was ACUALLY communicating and it was a breeze.

I had a similar problem before I got mine to work, but once I changed the port, it worked perfectly. I have no idea why you have the phone set to USB modem and BitPim set to USB Serial, but it worked for me. | |

I have google searched for drivers for the AX8600, Musiq, and even just LG drivers and I have not been able to find them. Does anyone know of any sites where I can find them. Also, I have no LG Ports to choose from. I am completely lost on the whole thing. To make matters worse. I can't keep a charge with my LG AX8600. I've had the phone less than 6 months and of course started after I gave them my fiancee's phone to be replaced. So, tomorrow I have to go to Alltel about the phone and hope the don't want to replace mine with the AX565. I appreciate your help and hope that someone has further suggestions. Thanks Christie

All I can recommend is keep looking, and trying whatever drivers you find. Make sure you uninstall the old drivers and restart your computer before installing the next ones. One more driver you can try that I just found: File Library Uninstall whatever drivers you have installed, click "DRIVERS" on the left, download the "LG Drivers.zip", unzip it. Plug in your phone, and let the "Add New Hardware" dialog pop up, and direct its driver search to the folder where you unzipped the file. Hopefully, since it's LG's site, it will work, but drivers seem to be touchy, so you never know.

I did everything you said but the files in the folder are Win2k, Win98, and WinME and I have XP. There's no way that any of those could be used safely is there? I'll keep looking and thank you so much for all of your help. Christie

Try using the Win2k driver. Normally a Win2k driver will work well enough for Windows XP, and I don't think it will hurt anything. Worst case it won't work, and you'll have to uninstall it and look for another one. (Also, Windows XP will always set a System Restore point when you install a driver, so if anything doesn't seem to work correctly afterwards, you should be able to do a quick system restore and there will be no harm done).

Okay after alot of work, I finally got it to work. I found some info when I googled that gave me the exact file that I needed and so I googled the file. I found the file on LG's website even though every other way I tried on LG's site told me it wasn't there. Once I installed that, Bitpim worked like a charm. So, if anyone ever needs help finding the drivers please let me know. Alltel was also kind enough to replace my battery for free. It's working fine so far. If it doesn't they will replace my AX8600 for free but it will be with the AX565 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks to those that were kind enough to help me out. I really appreciate the time you took to help out a complete stranger. Christie

Like others have said, make sure you uninstall any LG drivers that you may have tried. Then try this driver. http://us.lge.com/filedown.do?filepa...ng_Ver_4.5.exe This is the one that worked for me. Once that is taken care of, plug in your phone and do the Add New Hardware that was previously mentioned. You should get a little box that tells you your new hardware is ready to use. Open Bitpim, and use the instructions that lg8600 fan posted. It should work for you then. Good Luck Christie

I got my phone communicating to it using those drivers. I even tried them before, and they didn't work. I don't know what's up with my system. It's probably Vista. Anyway, I got my phone finally working! It accepted the ringtones, and I am now one happy person. Thanks, all! Last edited by geminiwolf; 04-28-2008 at 8:26 PM. Reason: problem solved

| Thank You all very much. It is amazing how things work correctly if and when you follow directions. I did it step by step and now all is well. I have spent probably 12 hours trying to do this and when I did as instructed everything works well in about 15 minutes. Thank you again Last edited by sardog13; 04-30-2008 at 11:38 PM. | I've never had that problem before, but try this: In BitPim, go to Settings, and under ports, click "Browse". Hopefully, there's a list of ports there. There should be one that is something along the lines of "LG CDMA USB Serial Port", that's the one you want to choose (even though your phone should be set to USB Modem). If you hit "Browse" and there aren't any LG ports listed, it's most likely a driver problem. |

The one time I've gotten that, it was because I hadn't deleted everything the "My Audios" folder on the phone. So check out your "My Audios" folder, and make sure you don't have any recordings or anything in there. If you do, back them up on your computer and then delete them from the phone. I don't think the phone has really been locked, because as long as the "My Audios" folder was empty, I haven't had a problem getting bitpim to work with the phone.
