VX 8550 driver problems

My 8550 cannot connect to my laptop using a USB. I want to load my music onto the phone but it just isn't happening. When I tried to sync through V-cast, it doesn't recognize the phone, period. It said to contact the manufacturer, but before I do, I wanted to know if anyone had similar problems. I tried the 'How-to' in the 8500 driver thread thinking that could work, and says the drivers are installed correctly and I'm using the most up to date, but it still doesn't work.

Hello, MA Firefighter here... I just bought an 8550 and had no problem connecting with my HP laptop. Did you install the drivers that came with the V-Cast software? I've discovered that there are often multiple versions of drivers... mine, I believe, are specific to the 8550, not generic to the 85xx series.

I think i found out the problem and it has nothing to do with the drivers working/not working. I don't have a 2GB or 4GB memory card in the phone, and i think that is why it is not showing under "other devices" in 'My computer'. If I go purchase one, it should show as an external hard-drive, similar to a USB flash drive. And then i can just click and drag the songs from my library to the new 'external hard-drive.' Now i just need the $40 to get the memory card. C'mon paycheck!

I installed the 8500 series driver, because I was told from the guy at Verizon that the drivers from 8500 and 8550 are identical, and all they do is throw on a new label so people, ( usually the dumb ones, we BOTH know how that goes), do not think the driver wont work with their model different phones. Thanks for the advice though, be safe also.

To: PA Firefighter - I DON'T have any microSD card installed yet but I was able to load my 8550 with an album of cajun music! So, I can't say that I concur with your assessment. I'm sure that you'll try (probably already tried) the uninstall/install routine and all that. Cell phones - and computers - are meant to be mysterious and a bane to our general existence. I'm learning to swear in binary.

My faith in the technical prowess of the retail employees at tech-stores has eroded greatly over the years... however, your mileage may vary.

And to Fire14, yes, surprising how many of us can handle tools more delicate than halligans, no?

i'm having the same problem with my phone and laptop as well, you're not the only one who's pissed
