I had the ringer on 'Light' mode because I was in a situation where I did not want the it to make any noise and the phone was in visual range. Someone called, the 'Light' ringer worked just fine - but I was not able to take the call. The person calling left a voice message and the phone BEEPED to let me know!!! Ouch!!! Looks like I won't be using that ring mode any longer!

I just figured out that in order for the phone not to beep when you have a message you have to go to the SMS menu, scroll down to and select settings, and select alerts. From there you can turn the VoiceMessage alert to Lamp, 2 alerts, 4 alerts or vibrate.
