hey guys.......I'm finally gonna head back to the verizon store and upgrade(after my Audi 8900 fiasco).........How do you like the 4500 after having ita few months?....Is the speakerphone off,3 command voice dialing something you're able to live with?.....Also,any reports of the phone being slow downloading off the mini browser?...Has the voice recognition been fine?...(esp driving mode?..)..
And how would you compare it with that other great speakerphone, the "slider"..

I like it fine, I have had it since the day it was released...actually the day before.

My only beef, and a minor one...it sometimes takes a bit long to conncet when I hit send. I have read others mention it too. Not all the time, but sometimes, even if it has a strong signal, after you hit send you will see it trying to connect....then, you will see the little phone with the line through it like it just lost the signal...then it will regain it and make the call. I have yet to have a dropped call, so it holds a signal well...I have a weak signal at home.

Just take 20 or 30 seconds sometimes to place the call.

thanks.....how about using voice dial?......has that been a PIA since you have to go through 3 steps to dial?....(BTW,the online manual doesn't say this...according to them, you say the contact and it dials....)

I haven't minded the voice dialing....push the button, say contacts, say the person's name, then it ask for a comfirmation.

For frequetly called numbers, I use good old fashioned speed dail...mash the 2 button and away it goes. But I do use voice dial for contacts that I can never remember what number they are speed dialed to.

Out of all the phones new features, I use the speakerphone the most.

That may be because of Capacity. I know that at certain parts of the day in certain places in Manhatan it takes a bit to make a call with any Carrier.

I'm loving mine after a month and a 1/2.
I use the speakerphone ALL the time (comes in really handy if you play a lot of video games). Very clear, and everytime I tell the person on the other line that they have been on speaker the whole conversation, they're really suprised because they couldn't even tell.
Battery life is great (goes a little quicker the more you use speakerphone).

And the 3 command voice dial is absolutely no prolem at all for me. It's only not got it right on the first try twice (out of prabably 60-70 tries). ...I actually haven't once dialed someones number to call, I always use voice dial. It takes all of 3 seconds to go thru the commands.
And it's great that you don't have to record a voice tag to every number. Just load'em up and your ready to go, unlimited voice dials.

The sheduler is very nice to. Just open it up, say "shedule" and it tells you what the shedule is for the day. ...very nice addition.

Don't let the 3 command voice dial be an issue. It is not a big deal at all after the first 3-4 calls.

Haven't downloaded anything, so can't help you there. But I don't have one complaint about this phone. ...execpt for maybe not being able to email myself backgrounds and ringers, but I'm over it.

One more positive for the 4500. Voice recognition works really well. I just started clipping the phone to the sun visor in my car and everyone says it sounds fine as long as it isn't super noise outside of my car.

I think the flexibility (number of features such as Voicemail, Drive mode on/off/, Calender, Contacts dialing, Digi Dial, etc... ) is such a big plus, that letting the phone repeat the name or number is no biggie. I use it much more than I thought I would. I'm not a phone hobbyist or junkie, but I'm impressed to the point to drop in here on occasion to see if there's anything new or to learn.

The one other complaint people have is about the "spoon" shape. The phone is small and thin without being too small, so that's a trade off. Also, I bought a Verizon case (yeah - I know) for it and it pretty much camoflages any peculiarities on the shape of it.

HTH,
Olivia

I really am liking the 4500, I still am trying to get voice dialing to work the way I want (i just reorganized the whole phone book to make it easier to recognize names) I havent come accross a single problem so far ... and thats impressive since I usually find all these little things that go wrong. I would say its a great phone!

Good point, but it never seemed to happen with my V60i or wifes A310. But could very well be capacity related.

Just wanted to thank you guys for taking the time to help...I'm sort of "phoneshy" after my 8900 fiasco......And I've learned in life, neverb buy the first run of anything....(something I didn;t do with the POS 8900)...Can I ask one more thing(maybe 3)...

Can any of you reach EBAY on GIN or the Minibrowser...My freind can with his Audi 9500 on GIN....I can't with my Nokia 3589....Also,I talked to a verizon rep..he says NONE of verizons phones are WAP 2..yet LG's site says this phone is......

And do you know if this phone is better in memory and tech stuff than the slider?....(Computer power and all?....thanks..

Also,on driving or open phone mode,is V dialing still a 3 step process?..

Bluestone

I believe I have noticed that. If it happens, it seems to happen in the first 30 seconds of the conversation, all of the suddon the party on the other end will be very hard to hear like the volume had just been turned down. It will last a couple of seconds then be fine. And for me, when it happens it will only happen once during the conversation.

I have tried different settings with autovolume, doesn't seem to change anything.

I don't think it has anything to do with reception, I have never had a dropped call.

hmm, when you put it like that CWick I now remember a few times when I would get a call and I couldnt for the life of me hear the other person. I would call them back (or they call me back) and it would be fine, but no matter how loud i turned the volume up they were still just barely there. It hasnt happened in many weeks, but you reminded me of it when you mentioned that you couldnt hear the other person at times. (when it happened for me though it was for the duration of the call, not just a few seconds)

Geese, Verizon does such "extensive" testing with the phones...you would think they would be perfect by the time we get them.
